Posing Tip: Be Aware of Dangling Limbs

One often flattering tip with posing is to angle your subject so that they do not hit the camera straight on and look as broad as possible. When doing this you may want to pay attention to all angles…

Here is one that I caught. Before shows 1st try with the model turning quickly to get movement with her hair.  See the problem? Her arm looks almost as if it is sticking straight out of her neck. It almost looks creepy.  But that is why I look at the back of my camera a lot!  Next shot, ah, much better.  More relaxed.  Basically my job in posing is more like coaching.  With many subjects you can even joke with them.  I showed the model this.  I actually had her look with me.  She laughed too.  And she understood what to do next.

Wow, I didn’t even realize small posing mishaps like this. You mean she didn’t like seeing her arm grow out of her neck?! 😛 Thanks for the tips; I visit MANY blogs and find yours the one of the most helpful and inspirational ones.
