In this article, I am going to discuss three different methods for coming up with content ideas for your photography blog.  You will read about tools and also something that every photographer should be doing already using engagement.

As the main blogger for a company who develops WordPress themes for photographers, it can be challenging at times to find new topics to write about.  However, when I discover a new method, I believe it is nice to share them with photographers.

So let’s get right to it, shall well?

1. Your Website’s Analytics

Hopefully you are using Google Analytics (or some other similar tool) to track your website traffic.  With tools like this, you can see what keywords visitors are coming into your site from.  For example, in the screenshot below I receive traffic from the keyword camera diopter and also zenfolio vs smugmug.  With this data, I then know that I can write more articles on those two keywords and increase my website traffic and conversions.

2. Google Suggestions

You know how when you visit Google and starting typing, your search query fills in the remaining text?  Google Instant is a great tool for discovering new content ideas.

Here is a great example:

Start typing tips for a bride in Google and see what comes up.  The last on that list is tips for a bride on her wedding day.  If you are a wedding photographer, then you need write articles with tips for a bride on her wedding day, from your point of view.  Educate your visitors and you will convert more to leads.

3. Engagement

This is one of my favorite ways of generating content ideas.  As a modern day photographer, you are most likely using social media.  For instance, you probably have a Facebook page, a Twitter account, a Pinterest account and maybe a Google Plus account.

Through these various social networks, you should be engaging in conversations with colleagues and potential customers. (That is the point, right?)  How often are you asked a question that you wind up answering right away?  Try something different.  Take that question and turn it into a blog article.  Not only with the person who asked the question enjoy that, but it also helps you get fresh content.

Summing It Up

There you have it, three different methods for coming up with content ideas.  I shared two tools from Google and engagement through social media.  Now I want to hear from you.  What are you doing to come up with new topic ideas for your website?  Please comment to share.

Great resource!Learning how to take professional pictures doesn’t require you to become a professional photographer, neither do you need an advanced digital camera such as a DSLR. By learning the right exposure settings, you can do the job without investing a hefty amount of budget in high-end camera models.
