I have a point-and-shoot, but I’m looking to go the SLR route. I wasn’t ready to make the financial commitment to an SLR, so I bought a prosumer (Canon Powershot G10) to get myself used to the nuances of a “fancier” camera. Right now, it’s just a hobby. I’m still trying to wrap my head around all the things I can manually control on my camera and all the neat things Photoshop can do for me. I love your “before & after” posts, because I find them inspirational when I think about how I want my photos to look.

I considered voting “other”, but right now “hobbiest” probably best describes me. I take pictures purely for enjoyment. Although, I would love if I could make enough money to support my habit, either through iStockphoto or some other venue. Travel, Nature, and Macro photography are my passions and most common subjects. I also LOVE Photoshop and the creativity it allows. I only wish I would learn how to use it.

I took a photography class in high school and two classes in college, and read “Popular Photography” for years, so I understand the basics of DOP, ISO, apertures, etc, but desperately want to increase my technical knowledge. I got a Minolta X-700 in 1993 and a Fujifilm S5100 in 2005, and am seriously looking into buying a Nikon D40.

I know this is a very specific market…

but I also use your products to fix my clients’ photos. Things I didn’t shoot, but since I design blogs and websites… clients often want photos of themselves or photos they took included in their design.

And if pro photogs struggle with things like white balance and sharpness, the average person with a P&S doesn’t really wield a powerful look for a blog or website. I use a combo of actions and post production skills I’ve gained to do photoshopping of others’ stuff.

So, yeah… try in fit all that in a tiny little check box.

So, I shoot as a hobbiest for my family (we all know my HandyMan is the real photog in the family), but I do get paid to do post production for clients’ images.
