image Win Incredible Bokeh, Flare & Sunset Light Texture Sets – 20 prizes available!!!

Often times I feel so bad when only one or two people can win my contests and so many leave comments. Well if you are feeling even a little lucky, this is a contest for you!

20 winners will be drawn at random on Sunday night, the 19th of July.

The prizes: each winner will get two incredible sets of textures from Kaleidoscope (Light Set and Dream Collection).  These textures (especially the light set) are like nothing I have ever seen before.  They literally work in Bokeh, Sun Flare or even Sunset Light to your photos. WOW! Each prize is worth $88 retail.  So MCP and Kaleidoscope are giving away $1,760 worth of prizes! Talk about fun.

PLUS on Sunday everyone wins – as I will be posting a download link to two FREE MCP Exclusive Kaleidoscope textures! And a 40% off code on the full sets.  DO NOT MISS THIS!

Here is a quick play I did using the “light set.”

sunshowers thumb Win Incredible Bokeh, Flare & Sunset Light Texture Sets – 20 prizes available!!!

To enter and qualify for the contest (you need to do both items 1 and 2):

1 – Join my Facebook Fan Page at http://facebook.com/mcpfans. If you are already a member, that counts too – but make sure you are signed up for my page not just to be my friend. My goal is to start having my fans and customers use the wall and discussion section on the MCP Fan Page to ask questions and help each other with photography and photoshop related questions.  I get dozens of emails a day with general questions and cannot always get back to everyone with detailed responses.  So please go sign up today so we can get started in that direction.

2 - Leave a comment directly on the blog (not on Facebook Wall, FB Page, emailed to me) with the following three answers:

  • What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
  • What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
  • What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?

(When it asks for your name in the comments – I need you to put your 1st and last name – and if a common name – your photography company name so that it will be easy to post the 20 winners) – if you are unable to do this – you will be disqualified from this contest.

hmmm…I don’t really have anything specific to ask for. I’m fairly new to photography and have lots to learn. I have worked in photoshop for years but I learn something new in that every day.

I appreciate whatever you give us! ;-)

color correction is definitely a struggle for me but I find it is more in training my eye to see the color casts (also a struggle with my monitor calibrations)…

  2. 2. Stacey Rainer Says:

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
–I’ve just started reading here so I’m not sure what all you have already. I am more of a Lightroom user so would be interested in seeing stuff about things I can’t do in LR. Textures is a good one. I’ve played with them but just can’t seem to get the perfect combination of the right texture with the perfect photo.

What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
–How to take better senior pictures. Mine are just boring.

What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
–Some kind of white balance action. Is that even possible? I love that Lightroom has the dropper I can click for perfect white balance. I wish there was an easy way to set this in PS.

My birthday is the 18th, so this would make a great birthday gift, a day late!!

  3. 3. michele bowman Says:

I would love to see some tutorials about off camera lighting, as well as some photoshop tutorials about making photos pop when putting them on the web.

  4. 4. Danielle Wilkinson Says:

    * What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
    — i desperately need skintones help and help with masking, i am terrible at it.
    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
    — off camera flash for dummies, white balance for dummies :)
    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
—- they are all so good, i dont know! just keep ‘em coming!

  5. 5. Ashley Cohn Says:

I would love to see more tutorials/topcs on natural light shooting, just some tidbits and advice for those just starting out. As for actions, I’d love to see more storyboards, sharpening and color boosting actions. :) I really enjoy the guest interviews as well, it’s always great to hear from established photographers!

  6. 6. Jeanine Krupp Says:

Tutorials: off camera flash, tips on fixing color, workflow
Photography: exposure tips for tricky situations (sun, etc.)
Actions: can’t think of any area that is lacking.

  7. 7. Corrie Schaffeld Says:

I want to learn more on how to shoot in low light, and then a tutorial about making those low light photos pop. as far as actions any will do i love using all of them.

  8. 8. Michele Reed Says:

    Jodi!
You rock! Loving this contest…thank you for your continued generosity:)

    1. I know the basics plus a little more in PS. But personally, I don’t know what everything “does” – learning what all the icons are and such, the general idea of what everything does would be a helpful tutorial. I tend to shy away from the tools that I have no idea what they do.
    2. I always feel like I struggle with posing and interesting composition…my images are all tending to look the same. I would love to see coverage of this topic. Also how to incorporate environmental objects into your frame.
    3. Actions – this is a tough one. I can’t think of anything that I don’t already have.. lol. Maybe selective sharpening – currently I use the sharpening layer only of your eye doctor action to selectively sharpen objects in my images. Maybe not the best one but only one I could think of! Also I love vintage.. I have one action that I am not too crazy about. Im sure there are a ton out there, but would love to see what you could do:) Or maybe you have and I haven’t seen it?!

  9. 9. Amy F Says:

I would love to see some tutorials on getting better SOOC shots. We all know that exposure has to be on, but what about other little things like natural reflectors, simple angle changes, etc. I’m just making my way into weddings so I’d love to see some posts on that, including workflow and pp. Oh gosh, actions……….um………..idk? lol, haven’t you covered all of the bases of possible needs for actions?

  10. 10. Laura Winslow Says:

    ~Became a fan!
~I would love to see tutorials on skin tone and textures.
~I would love to see a feature on lenses and maybe a guest feature on well-known photographer’s fave lenses and why.
~This one is hard because MCP has so many awesome actions already! I love that pink haziness that is so popular with newborn shoots these days…I would love to see an MCP action like that! :)

  11. 11. Karyn Carter Says:

Love your stuff! Have for quite awhile! Thanks for posting all the cool tuts!

  12. 12. Amy Strycula Says:

    * What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?

I would love to see more tutorials about applying creative effects with actions. I am primarily a Capture NX2/Lightroom user, so I’d love to find creative things to do in Photoshop. I am an active Photoshop user, it’s just not used heavily in my workflow, except for cloning out stuff.

    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?

Macro photography, product photography, portrait photography, HDR.

    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?

I love the new light flare and bokeh sets, haven’t seen anything like that before in an action. Maybe some more along those lines?

    Thanks!

  13. 13. Gina Says:

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future? You’ve covered so many…is there anything left?
What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future? Flash shooting…really have to learn how to use my speedlight better!
What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future? Anything your giving, I’m taking!!

  14. 14. Michelle Albright Says:

I’d love to see a tutorial on using the clone tool. I’d also love to see a discussion on studio lighting … soft boxes … and using a flash. For an idea on Actions I’d like to see: … you have so many fantastic ones already …. how about something trendy, even if it was a small set. Something soft but color popped in one action? LOL .. does that even make sense?

Thanks for another great contest Jodi …. I LOVE the Kaleidoscope textures!!

  15. 15. DiAnna Paulk Says:

    * What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?

Anything on identifying appropriate skin tones. When does “warm” become “too orange.” What about the recent trend toward desaturated skin tones? etc.

    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?

Tips for working with children who don’t want to be photographed. Posing and (natural) lighting techniques for large (extended) family portraits.

    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?

I know how to make a snapshot on the history tab of an image before running an action, but would love to have that included in each of your future actions as an automatic first step before the action runs. That being said, I can’t get enough of your blogging board actions! Love them! More, more, more :)

  16. 16. Stephanie West, Blackbird Photography Says:

    1. I agree with the above comment. In photoshop, I don’t know what all the buttons are, I hardly know how to use photoshop and I would love to learn more about how to do it on my own. I own most of your actions, but I feel like a dummy not being able to do anything myself.
    2. I need some tips on lighting. How to use reflectors and what is the best time to take photos. Especially taking photos where the sun is behind the subject, I really need help on that.
    3. I don’t think you could come up with any new actions! It seems like you’ve thought of everything. Maybe ones that help with the vibrance of the photo? Mine seem to always look a little dull. That could be my fault on how I take photos, though.

  17. 17. linda wesseler Says:

I would like to see tutorials learning how to make gradient. Topic on camera lighting defusers.

  18. 18. Jill Ellison Says:

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future? I’d love to see some tutorials on sharpening for print vs web (you may have done this and I missed it)
What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future? Anything lighting related!
What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future? Hmm the ones you have are so great! Maybe just one that resizes, sharpens, watermarks, and puts a frame on a picture. I need a rounded corner action! :)

  19. 19. Kara Opp Says:

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?

I would love some tutorials on more shortcuts and functionalities of Photoshop – I love it when I learn how to use something hidden in Photoshop

What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?

Love the topics on getting it right in the camera, how to choose locations, posing.

What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?

    Complete workflow actions

  20. 20. ALVN of WhisperWood Cottage Says:

I’d like to learn how to determine sizes and saving procedures for various uses. Such as how to save things properly for the web vs. print. I would also like to know how to determine which actions to use.

  21. 21. Elizabeth J Bailey Says:

    1. Photoshop tutorials — I would love to see a tutorial about the dodge and burn tool. Also, a tutorial about optimizing for web versus print would be extremely helpful for me.

    2. Photography topics — I am a newby and would love to see a post detailing what all settings you go through when you go out to shoot in manual mode. Is there a checklist of some sort? I am anxious to improve my SOOC shots.

    3. Actions — More magic print-it boards! I love these!

  22. 22. Tonya Says:

Hmmm…I am still new to photography so any any tutorial would be great for me. I have mastered the basics of Photoshop and then some, but would love to be able to do more. I know I am not even scratching the surface of what i could really do with this software.
One thing I am most interested in is lighting. I would love some insight as to different lighting techniques to achieve different looks. Sometime my images tend to fall a little flat and I know with different positioning I could give them depth and interest.
And last, but not least I love all your actions so anything you come up withwould be awesome in my book.

  23. 23. Audrey Coley Says:

I would love to see any tutorials on babies. I do a lot of 3 month olds and your baby tutorials have always been a huge help to me. I would love to know hot to get really smooth, creamy skin that still looks natural.
I would love to see topics on Seniors and any ideas you had about posing, processing, stylizing. Also senior boys which I find very difficult.
I will be ordering your actions soon as my cs4 is on its way. Do you have any that work with ps elements? I love your actions, they are very well done. they enhance without looking fake.

  24. 24. katie sabin Says:

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
curves…masks…words that I have heard and only use when an action contains it!
What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
I’m with DiAnna, I would love photograph tips for kids, as well as large family portraits
What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
I can’t think of any right now, I’m loving what you offer!

  25. 25. Julia Spencer Says:

I would love to see tutorials on using backlighting. Also would love to see workflow studies (what processes do other photogs use for SOOC photos.) Would love to know what actions are the most valueable to have in one’s hands vs what’s nice to have for artistic quality. (I’m a newbie, so, basically anything is good… LOL!)

  26. 26. Patti Margarita Says:

    * What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future? how to work through a full session FAST!
    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future? Lighting. I do natural light, but I would like to see what the first time lighting person should know. Products, placement. And what do you REALLY need vs. what are the toys?
    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future? How about tutorial actions? Sounds strange? But an action that when you run it gives dialogue for what to do next to get this outcome.

    Thanks for all you do!!

  27. 27. Diane Hazelwood Stewart Says:

I would love to see more photoshop tutorials on getting skintone correct. Photography wise, I would love to see, more natural light tutorials and finally, for actions, I am not sure, you already have terrific actions, maybe more gallery frames, love the one I already have…Thanks Jodi, for all that you do, I head to your site every morning.

  28. 28. Dan Trevino Says:

    1. As for tutorials, maybe some that show how to make our own actions or brushes. The ones you’ve created save time, but how about step by step instructions to make our own (if these tutorials are already on the site, I guess I didn’t look hard enough – sorry). Masks are another thing I would be interested in learning about. I’m clueless about them.

    2. The processing topics are very helpful, but how about more info on the photos before you get to the processing – actually taking the pictures. Why that picture? What were you trying to capture? Sort of letting us see through your eyes.

    3. Actions . . . hmmm. What haven’t you already covered. You’ve got some that make the colors pop, brighter, etc. How about one that leaves selective color in the image? For example, I have a senior photo and she’s wearing her jeans. I use the action and it takes out all the color except for blue. Just an idea.

  29. 29. Alyanna Uy Says:

    1) I would like Photoshop tutorials on different ways of correcting color casts. I often have a hard time identifying if a photo consists of a color cast and when I try editing the color balance, it just becomes worse. Tutorials regarding this topic would be great!
    2) I would like Photography tutorials concerning flash. Whether it would be how to use the on-camera flash or off-camera flash.
    3) I would like actions specially for studio pictures.

  30. 30. MariaV Says:

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
I would like to see more tutorials on working with layers.
What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
I would like to see tips on being creative or reviving creativity.
What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
I’m open. I have enjoyed all to date.

  31. 31. robin cornett Says:

    1. I love the skin tones suggestion. Actually, I would LOVE to see you mix it up with some LR tips/tricks/tutorials. Does that count as Photoshop?
    2. I loved the newborns series… what about more on newborns and family members? Siblings, more than mom and dad.
    3. hmmmm… that’s a tough one. I’ll pull from my first answer and say, what about delving into LR presets maybe?

  32. 32. sharon blankenship Says:

    1. I would love some tutorials on how to use some of your older actions. Like Frosted memories
    2. I am interested in learning more about wedding photography.
    3. I LOVE your actions and instructions on how to use them! So, anything is great

  33. 33. Amanda Picone Says:

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
I would love to see tutorials on how to make the most of PS. There are options I don’t use often, or that are maybe too time consuming. I’d love to see your take on your favorite tools to use, and which you don’t use often and why. It would be great to see if I’m not the only one when it comes to certain tools!

What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
I would love a topic that covers natural poses/capturing genuine interactions vs. posed/staged photos in regards to wedding/engagement/portrait photography, and how the photos can differ. I would be really interested in seeing your take on both, side by side, and why each one works (or doesn’t) for you.

What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future? I love unique textures!

  34. 34. Clair Dickson Says:

I am new to this site so please excuse if my suggestions have already been done. I’m sure I could spend hours sifting through all this great information.

    1. photoshop- workflow for multiple actions (does it matter which is applied first and last?)
    2. topic- using natural light in portraiture.
    3. action- surely you have them all! how about a really dramatic b/w with a texture? (I’m fishing here.)

Thanks for the opportunity. Looking forward to the other goodies coming soon.

  35. 35. Angie Seaman (Angie Seaman Photography) Says:

Hi Jodi. Awesome give-a-way. Thanks for being so generous with this. As for your facebook page, I’m already a member there. And in regards to the questions you asked, here are my answers…

    1) I’d like to see tutorials on recognizing or learning to see skin tone issues (too orange, etc.) I’d also like to see something in regard to how best to do conversions and how to know when they are done correctly instead of how I “think” they look.

    2) Photography wise – I’d love to see topics on how to take better beach images. (portraits of families on the beach) I’m reside in Indiana but we are in Florida once a month. I’m always trying to figure out the best way to capture incredible beach pictures.

    3) And speaking of beach shots, as for the actions, I’d love to see some sundrenched type actions as well as maybe some old Hollywood style retro black and white actions.

Thanks for all of your help and expertise. For newbies such as myself, your help and teachings are priceless.

    Blessings, Angie Seaman

  36. 36. Melody Says:

    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
    Lighting and white balance
    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
ANYTHING! I love all of them!!

  37. 37. Danyll Epps Says:

Hey Jodi!! Always love your fun contests.

    1. Photoshop Tutorials: I’d love to see one on “clearing up” someones skin. You may have already done this, but I’d like to see someone elses idea on this.

    2. Photog Topics: CROPPING! I’m always nervous to crop a photo, thinking that I will have trouble getting to it to fit into the size print that the client wants. How do you avoid this problem…what’s the “perfect” ratio to crop to.

    3. MCP Action: WOW..this is a hard one. I LOVE LOVE LOVE all the MCP Actions. Couldn’t live without them. Maybe a watermark action that resizes the watermark and places it in the same place in the sam size every time on your pictures.

Thanks Again, Jodi, for all you do!!!

  38. 38. Susan Prater (Designs by Prater) Says:

    1) I love your past tutorials that teach on how to use a mask in photoshop. Tutorials on how to fix photos without using actions are just as important on how to enhance photos using actions.
    2) I love the interviews and FAQs with other photographers and want to see them keep on coming! And contests for prizes :)
    3) Would love to see some actions that add grunge textures/borders to photos. Is that possible?
Thanks again and love this website!

2)I would love to learn more about toddlers and newborn photography

3)I would be happy with any actions but I especially love black and white and color pop actions

  41. 41. Martha Moring Says:

    Thanks, Jodi!

I would like to see a tutorial on off camera lighting.

I would like to see a post about posing couples for engagement sessions.

I would love more texture actions!

  42. 42. Tiffany Austin | red fox photography Says:

    1. I would love to see some quick tutorials on removing localized color casts (if there aren’t any already). 2. Maybe adding a comment/critique day on the blog would be fun….people could submit photos to you for C&C by you, readers, and maybe some guest bloggers. 3. A set of vintage effect actions could be fun….or a customizable proofing action set would be great.

  43. 43. Nicole Sullivan Says:

    1. I would like to see a your take on tilt-shift processing.
    2. I would like to learn more about lenses.
    3. I am an actions addict! I love your Eye Doctor. I would like to learn more about personalizing the actions. I find that I commonly use just one action and consider it done, and often this is enough. But I love the looks of using multiple actions to achieve the best results.

  44. 44. Beth Lofgren Says:

    * Skin correction, how to achieve different saturation effects, how to make images clearer
    * Connection – how to see it. Shooting PJ style
    * Blog type actions — storyboards, etc…

    1. I’m a fan of work flow type tutorials – I love to see how people work.
    2. I’d like to see more branding and marketing topics.
    3. Actions… hum. I’m not sure but probably actions that are very subtle in the skin/eye area.
    Thanks for the great contest!

  46. 46. Catherine Halsey Says:

    1. I would love photoshop tutorials on color correction. I know you’ve done them in the past, but I can not get enough!
    2. As far as topics go… I would love more on posing or how to capture beautiful shots of children. I don’t want to pose them, but for family poses with children involved any creative suggestions would be great. Also … posing newborn twins. Please help!
    3. Oh boy… any actions you come up with are great! I would love actions that create a certain size 4×6 300dpi or 5×7 300dpi… that way I wouldn’t have to crop and adjust I could just click a button.

Thanks for the continued contests Jodi!

  47. 47. Heidi Abbott Says:

I love your stuff Jodi! Thanks so much. My answers to your questions are:
    1) Tricks on cloning. 2) Creative lighting. 3) Vintage finishes.

  48. 48. Debbie Perrin Says:

Jodi, your skills in photography and photoshop are impeccable! Aspiring photographers really need to sign up with you! (Sorry, don’t mean to lay it on so thick, but your work is amazing to me!)

Photoshop tutorials –anything covering layer masking, clipping and even background changes on wispy hair!!!!
Photography topics– Exposure, getting great bokeh, compostion, oh, just ALL of it!
Actions — I’m slowly becoming addicted to actions, so anything on actions, especially creating your own actions would be awesome!

  49. 49. Julie Hagglund Says:

I would love a tutorial on working with black and white backgrounds and how to light them properly and process them right.

I seem to have many issues shooting in manual with getting my photos crisp, so a tutorial on how to take photos in manual would be great.

I love actions, and I think yours are pretty unique, so I would try to continue with something that is different and not done..not sure thats any help ;) maybe a makeup action with enhancing makeup or creating it?

I joined your fan page. ;)

  50. 50. Michele Abel Says:

I hope this is where you want the comments, this is the blog I assume.

    1. Classes: I’ve taken your curves class, and the details class. I use everything I learn all the time. But there are lots of other “unknown” things on PS that I haven’t a clue about. I’m game for anything. Oh, and perhaps how to look at photos, and know what actions it needs, and what to use when and in what order.
2.Tutorials: How to get children’s pictures – toddlers and up .
3.Actions: I love actions and have no idea what I want til I see it. So something unusual would be fun. I love these Kaleidoscope ones. Keep it up.

    Michele Abel

  51. 51. Emily Says:

    1. How about how to incorporate Lightroom in your workflow?
    2. How to use flash properly
    3. You’ve created so many actions already! I can’t think of anymore.

  52. 52. Nelly Soares Says:

Your continued gererousity is amazing! thank so much Jodi.

Photoshop tutorials – I’m a basic Photoshop user so it’s hard to know what I’m missing out on when I don’t know it exists. A summery of all the tools would be great.

Photography topics – Learning to use the in-camera histogram (every tutorial online I’ve found might as well be in Chinese because I can’t understand it)

Future actions – Hope you eventually do some Lightroom Presets

    Thanks!

  53. 53. Kim Kruppenbacher Says:

    As always Jodi..you rock!
Let’s see…I would love to see tutorials on the thing that confuses me the most, off camera flash lighting.
Topics…step backs so that we can see a visual how you set up your shots. Since 90% {that is just a guess} of getting it right is straight out of the camera, this is something I personally would love to practice more of.
Actions..goodness, anything you make is awesome. Something that would work in beach shots…toned down colors and dreamy perhaps with some coral and aqua colors in there?
Good luck everyone and Jodi, thank you for all you do. :0)

» I would like to see more photoshop tutorials on how to edit photos. I know there are already a lot of them, but I still learn something new each time you put up a new one.
» I would like to see more topics on the post process side of photography. Specifically on how to crop images to give clients proofs and other technical stuff that might not be exciting, but very good to know.
» Your current actions are already amazing, I think I would like to see more simple actions. Actions that just enhance the photos without looking like too much.

  57. 57. Laurie LeBlanc Says:

    1. I would love to see more before and after tutorials. I feel like those are SO helpful. I’d like to see more tutorials on fixing different types of pictures, masking, blending when you insert something into your picture or say change heads from two pics etc…

    2. I would like to see topics such as posing and composition based on gender, body type, types of lighting and how certain poses and lighting flatter each of them. Also, types of lighting and how to get the right exposure for back lighting, sun, flare and what settings and lenses work best. Macro!

    2. I like to learn more about portrait photography and how do i incorporate the reflectors.

    3. Since i bought most of the MCP actions, i can’t ask for more. But if you have new ones, i would gladly INVEST on it cause it helps me a lot in my editing. It’s easy as 1-2-3. It all makes my ugly photos turn in beautiful pictures…..

  59. 59. Norine Piet Says:

I have enjoyed all your tutorials and it is very difficult to isolate subjects to cover, but I have a few things I would like to see.

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future? Making selections, organizing actions (if there is some good way to do this),

    1) What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?

You have done so many it’s hard to say. Maybe effectively using textures? I’d love to see a tutorial on creative processing – duotones, stuff like that. Subtle things that really set images apart.

    2) What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?

    More on Marketing!

    3) What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?

I’d love a studio set – something that polishes off studio images without making them look over done. They usually don’t need a lot, just a little polish. I did one for my own purposes, but haven’t tested it enough to know if it’s ‘just right’ yet. I’d also love some softer processing actions. :p

  61. 61. Christa Holland Says:

    * What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
    – I agree with all the color-correction suggestions. Especially for subjects with more red-tinted skin.
    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
    – Off-camera flash/reflectors.
    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
    – I love natural-looking effects. & black & white. As long as it doesn’t look over-processed, I’m happy.

Also, I’m loving the interviews with other photographers. It’s nice to hear a variety of opinions. : ) Thanks!

  62. 62. Dana Stone, Photos of the Heart Says:

I would love to see tutorials on combining RAW processing/lightroom with actions.

I would love a few topics on trying a new style or getting surly preteens and teens to cooperate! Using a speedlight maybe?

I would like to see anything in the action department! Maybe a vintage action?

  63. 63. Deborah Farver Says:

1.What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?

Almost any are good for me. I love learning new things. My favorites are textures right now so maybe a tutorial involving textures and proper use of them.

2.What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?

Use of natural light and OCF would be the ones I am most interested in at this moment.

3.What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?

I love, love, love vintage and antique actions……so anything along this line. I know you already have some of these available……but there can never be too many. Maybe even some vintage with texture.

  64. 64. Dawn Norris Says:

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?

Creating a watermark version of our logos and how to run it as a reliable action in the batch processing feature. I have a tough time getting some of the logo actions to work and placing it in the best possible location to prevent theft and not diminishing the quality of the image (putting it across the subject’s face).

What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
Meter features and how to use them in a simple way.
Facebook madness – how to manage this tool to leverage the best for both the client and the photog.
Selecting the selects for the client – too many/too few? Basics on how to manage the client’s expectations on this since many times they come from quantity and not quality of the images.
To sell or not to sell digital files without undermining the whole industry?

What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
    A reliable logo action
Boarders action to run in a batch of images.
Resizing a batch of images to 5×5/8×8 and include an optional boarder choice

Jodi, again, you are amazing – a great teacher, talented photog, and photoshop guru!

  65. 65. Melissa Gastinger Says:

So is this give away only for professionals?

I’m already a fan on Facebook, and I don’t have a business name – yet.
    1. I’d like to see some tutorials for using Camera Raw with exposure and color correction.
    2. Getting a good exposure in harsh lighting conditions.
    3. I’d like to find an action that adjusts infrared photographs.

  66. 66. Jenny Esterbrook Says:

    1. I love all your tutuorials, but for some reason I would LOVE someone to spell out the do’s and don’ts, the why’s and how’s of saving all my work. I need someone to start from the beginning, literally when you plug in your camera or your CF card and take me through exactly what I would do to archive, organize, process and save for all the scenarios I would run into as a professional photographer. I have Bridge, CS4 and I take pics in RAW, and I try to save in JPEG and in TIFF but also am confused by saving and resizing for the web and also how to do the workflow thing so I don’t have to individually save them all. ARGGG!! I just need to really hear all the details!
    2. As for topics, I would love to learn all about curves a little better and becoming a little more self-sufficient in Photoshop without having to use actions most of the time, also simple lighting techniques for someone starting out, studio and outdoors.
    3. I’d be happy with anything, you have so many good ones!

  67. 67. Colleen Kuerth Says:

I have been using Photoshop for years, but I still feel like there are a lot of features I never use. Would love to see some tutorials on masks and color correcting. As far as photography topics, I would like to learn more about taking and setting up great portraits and how to get great candid shots. I just started using actions and reading this blog, so I am not sure what types of actions I would be interested in. Everything you have already is great!

  68. 68. Samantha Parks- Firefly Photography (smileysamiam on CM) Says:

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
Skin tones are my biggest issue, so anything covering skin tone values and how to get them to look visually pleasing would be great. Also, how to remove haze from sunset pics.

What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
Getting dreamy sunset/sunrise light (what kind of settings work and what doesn’t)

What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
Actions geared towards newborn photos. They are such a unique group, seems like they could use their own actions!!

  69. 69. Shannon White (S & G Photography) Says:

    * What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
I often do not know I needed a tutorial until seeing it! lol A good tutorial would be on how to manage Photoshop brushes.
    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
The best order to purchase a full set of lenses for both Nikon & Cannon (since those are the two systems most of have gone with). Which should be prime & which can be bit less quality. I have my opinions, but I’d love to get others perspectives.
    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
I’m still learning about them and trying to figure out which ones I want. Your freebie trial ones are awesome. I now have way to many watermarks! As soon as I decide and convince the ‘G’ in S & G Photography they truly really are needed yours will be my first purchase.

  70. 70. Sarah Goblot Says:

Tutorials: always, always, more colour fixing tutorials.
Photography topics: While I realize that settings are a personal choice, I like to understand why the photographer made that particular choice. Why that ISO, why that shutter speed, why that aperture–what was the dominant choice.
Actions: something to identify colour casts :)

  71. 71. Nekane Erro Owens Says:

    * I would love to see a tutorial on how to do a great B&W conversion without
    an action.
    * As far as photography I would love to learn how to do silhouettes.
    * I love all your actions, but maybe more of a la carte type menu. That way we
can build the package we need :)

  72. 72. Gayle Vehar Says:

I love your blog and would love to see any tutorials on color correction. Still working on that. Photography related posts: getting great backlight. photography topics – shotting in tough lighting conditions
actions – a la carte menu!

  76. 76. Kayla Renckly Says:

I love all the tutorials you’ve done so far. I’m having a hard time coming up with ideas for ones you haven’t done yet, have you done one on selective color adjustment? Like just small parts of skin where something reflected, I use your skin action and masking but it can be difficult to get right. For photography topics, maybe large group posing and creative posing to make people appear slimmer. I love all of your actions that I have, maybe more storyboards?

  77. 77. Amy Geiger Says:

    1. I would also love to see an in depth tutorial on how to make a great black and white (I just never feel mine are right – muddy or something missing). It would be great to see some step by steps or maybe comparisons on some pics of why they could be better (some that are muddy, lack contrast, too bright, etc – to help us recognize what a good b&w should look like). I don’t know why I struggle so much with them – ha!
    2. I’d also love to see some topics on posing (families especially) – not formal, rigid posing, but interactive, natural poses or placements for families and kids.
    3. I too would like to be able to mix and match your actions a bit. Just to get all of the ones I feel are must haves at one time. I can’t think of any additions – you really do offer such a great variety!

I would like to read about getting good silhouettes.

For actions, maybe something that gives indoor photos a little pop. I can’t use pop action on my indoor photos as they seem to way oversaturate.

  128. 128. Cari Chee, Carisa Chee Photography Says:

I was at a workshop last year, and I was lucky enough to be studying with several other photographers from around the country. Two of them were from Russia, and they had these amazing photos with a technique that I’d never seen. They were almost completely bleached out, except for one bright, surreal color that tied the photo together. This one splash of color was the only thing not bleached out in the images. I’ve tried to duplicate the process, and I think that it involves converting them to LAB mode at some point, but I can’t quite get the correct effect. The photos themselves were full of emotion and movement, and the overall effect was fabulous. I’d love to see tutorials teaching this post-production technique. From what the teacher told us, there are several post-production techniques coming out of Russia within the next few years that will be revolutionary to us here in the states.

As far as topics to cover, I’m trying to get more and more into the senior portrait market, and anything from photographers who are experienced at these sessions is very appreciated. I love reading anything from posing to wardrobe suggestions, to post production. I would also appreciate tutorials on different grunge borders and brushes, and maybe a few on making new and original backgrounds for ads or blogs.

I would, of course, love any actions that can mimic the above mentioned technique. Any actions that I’ve seen that come close to it also blow out a lot of the image. Their images weren’t blown out – everything was properly exposed. They were just bleached out except for one really surreal color. I also really like actions that give a grungy, abused look. And if there’s any way to get actions that work in lightroom as well as photoshop, I think that would be a huge plus.

Thanks for holding these fun contests! I just love reading the comments you get. Oh, and I’ve been following your fb fan page for quite a while now.

I would love to see more information about using texture – it’s something I like the look of, but I don’t seem to be able to make it work the way I envision it. I always like to see articles about people’s takes on different custom fuctions – back button focusing, different metering modes, etc. In terms of actions, is it wrong to say I think you’ve got it pretty well covered? I love the current offerings!

I love all your actions. Your Take Action on Cancer Awareness freebie is WONDERFUL, and I love my Quickie collection with the web resizing and borders – just keep doing what you’re doing!

  172. 172. Deirdre Malfatto Says:

Photoshop tutorials — I’d love to know whether there are steps you take with every single photo you process, before you even get creative, and what those steps are.

Photography topics — Maybe more about lighting, inside and outside and about “planning” relatively casual shoots?

MCP actions — I have to say that I have a small budget, and your actions are high on my wish list, but I haven’t used them yet. And your classes are even higher on my list. So I don’t know about more actions. I just want the ones you have! The only thing I can think of is that I would love to see some sort of trial set — maybe one that left watermarks on my photo or self-destructed, LOL, so I could get a better idea of which ones I should buy first.

    1) What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future? I am still terrible at white balance and with my lighting for indoor shooting. I have your magic skin set of actions and use it with almost every picture I edit. I would love to see some actions with texture overlays in them.

I would love to learn more about fixing white balance using levels and also color correction especially with skin casts (although I do LOVE your skin cast blast action)

What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
Off camera flash would be a nice one to review, maybe while indoors etc. I would love to see angles and compositions used aside from the rule of thirds, something outside of the box.

What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
wow, what dont you already offer? :D

  221. 221. Terry Lee Says:

Hey Jodi…sounds like a great contest! I would love to see a tutorial on how to use textures and how to add artistic borders (to look like old polaroid transfers or film borders). My blog topic request would be
for how to do hand-tinting in photoshop and the actions I would like to see more of is black & white
conversions adding different tones as well as textures…but I guess that falls into the “brushes” category. Your actions are pretty awesome and complete. It’s hard to think of anything else! xo

  222. 222. Amber K. Baker Says:

    1. Like the above poster, I would love to learn how to fix white balance and correct color casts.
    2. I would like to see more interviews and Q&As with other photographers.

Wow, I enjoy so many, have quite the collection, and what you already have to offer, that’s a tough one!

Gee, lots of help here, I am!

  225. 225. meg campbell-back Says:

    niiiiice Jodi!

    1) always like to see more about colour casts or skin correction… there’s so many different ways to tackle this tough subject and I always feel a bit clueless when I have a serious issue (and convert to B&W!)
2)something on sports for when we photograph our kids on saturdays!
3)anything with round corners. I LOVE round corners, such a cool look…

  227. 227. Missy Hancock Says:

    I’m a fan already!!

    Let’s see…
Tutorials: Every time I see a tutorial, I think “That’s exactly what I wanted to learn!” But maybe learning how to fix things if they’re blown-out. I know sometimes it’s not possible, but what you do to fix it.
Photography Topics: How to get that creamy skin look SOOC. Does it depend on your lens?
Actions: Anything to save me time editing!!

Thanks, Jodi, for all your hard work!

  228. 228. Moria Zuriel Says:

    >>What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
I’m so new, EVERYTHING you do is helpful… but an area that I know I have questions about are skin tones… I don’t even know where to begin on this.

-Sharpening… how do I know if I’ve gone too far? What is the difference if I’m processing images for print?

-I’d like to know how to use curves (though I know you have a workshop for that… saving up, saving up!).

-I would love to see you go through an image, start to finish, with screen shots or video, of what you do to process it and finish. This is immensely helpful to me.

-I LOVE the look of the sample images of the LilyBlue actions… and I bit the bullet and bought them… but I can’t seem to replicate what she has… I sure would LOVE to see how to go about creating these types of images MYSELF in photoshop…

-Since I’m so new and so reliant on actions… I’d love explanations of filters and other functions in photoshop that I can’t figure out how to use myself!

    - I’d like some guidance on how to know what kinds of processes work well on what kinds of photos…

    >>What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?

You’ve done such a good job of covering so many topics in the last months… I don’t want to copy things I”ve seen. I desperately want my own style… and yet, I’m not sure how to find it. Perhaps something to help inspire me but also help me find myself in this huge photography world. I know I want to learn more about getting it right straight out of camera.

I also want to know more about lenses… what should I be looking for? What kinds of lenses give what kinds of effects?

    >>What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?

I often feel like my images need just a little more “pop”… but nothing I’ve got seems to do it (and I don’t know enough to do it myself!). I have your quickie collection… but what I have isn’t what I’m seeking… (I know that’s incredibly vague).

  229. 229. Sara King Says:

I’m would love to know how to make an action myself. I’m sure that’s already been covered but I like to toy with pictures and would love to take that and apply it to another pic through an action.
I’m not picky on photography topics. I love reading anything that’s covered.
As far as actions are concerned, my favs are the ones that make pictures pop and are vibrant. Those look especially cool with children and wedding pics. Love them! I don’t have any special requests. :)

  230. 230. Vanessa Segars Says:

What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future? More graphic design, working with complex selections (using the pen tool)

What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future? More topics on lighting would be great

What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future? Hard to say – since I view images as something of individual taste. Your basic actions seem like plenty. :)

  231. 231. Haley Swank Says:

    1. I would be interested in some photoshop tutorials on how to add borders to your pictures in photoshop. Also, I would like a tutorial on all the colorspace stuff – RGB vs. sRGB, 8bit vs. 16bit, icc profile, “embed” – all that terminology confuses me. Also, what settings you should have with print vs. web.

    2. I would love to learn more about composition and tilts with the camera. I’d like to learn to be more creative with the camera, but many time it doesn’t work.

    3. Soft Proofing Action!!!!!!! – that would make life a lot easier. I would also like to see an action that converts RGB to sRGB and 16bit to 8bit.

  232. 232. Anna Cederholm (Anna Marie Photography) Says:

As far as photography topics…I really love when you have guest bloggers in specific specialties! I love the newborn tips. I would love to see more tips on keeping skin tones looking good but getting the color pops! Getting rich dark color, but keeping skin NORMAL!

As far as actions…I would like to see more story boards! Ones that are EASY.
I don’t get how to do the whole story board thing. I am sure it isn’t too hard…but I need a good step by step tutorial.

    You’re AWESOME!
    Kati

  235. 235. Crystal Says:

Hi Jodi, I’m already a facebook fan. As far as tutorials….geez….that’s a tough one. I would love some tutorials on working with metadata from images. I know there is a way to remove the meta data that your camera creates. I just don’t know how to do it. Photography topics….dealing with low light. I constantly find myself working in dark places. Many my my images end up noisy because of this. I never know how much is too much in terms of under exposure. That leads me to photoshop actions…..in a dream world a noise remover action…or underexposure correction. But seriously, these new actions/textures are something I’ve been looking at recently. You’re timing is perfect. If the random number generator just happens to pick me. (please pick me.)

  237. 237. Silisia Rubel Says:

I need more work flow tutorials. I too have a mac, LOVE IT! I just bought Lightroom, need more time to get the hang of it. I work mostly with Photoshop and Bridge, so anything that will help things to run faster and smoother would be great.

Topics like, How to get the most from your camera, like certain settings used in particular situations, exposure tid bits, maybe examples of shots and how you took them, settings, advice, etc. More on how to get it right with your camera the first time.

How about lighting, Speedlite 580EX where to begin with manual settings? I shoot with flash, but only on automatic. How about a beginner studio set up at low cost, just to get our feet wet?
Correct color tones, I lean towards warm, others like it cooler, is it just an opinion?

I use your actions and would love to have them all, eventually. You have a great range of actions already, maybe some actions to help with work flow or some more urban. Can’t get enough templates and frames.
What you do to help us already is so much, THANKS!

  240. 240. Kathy E. Mller Says:

I would probably love anything new that you design.

  241. 241. steph irons, available light ltd Says:

was already a FB fan! let’s see, i’d like to see photoshop tutorials on making ‘invisible’ hdr… i usually use blended exposures for that kind of thing because i find it gives a much more natural result – but i’d like to get natural-looking results more consistently using hdr processing too. for photography topics – id like to see more on contemporary pet portraits – as well as everything you already do. actions, hmm… i like some of the ideas other ppl have suggested here but cant think of anything extra that really stands out right now :)

  242. 242. Tracy Rine Says:

I would suggest for the photoshop tutorials, how to make backgrounds with brushes and also how to use them and make you own brushes. Also, what all can you do with them. Also, using a mask, text ect…I would love to learn how to turn my photography into an artwork look. I am looking to learn how to make photo collages as well.

Photoshop actions, I think it would be great to learn about frames, grunge effects and textures.

  244. 244. Bart Leger Says:

I would love to see a tutorial on working with the skin tones in some of your actions such as All in the Details, because no matter what I do, I can’t get to skin to look quite right. Your actions change the background image so I can’t just create a mask and go back closer to the original.

I would love to see something on ideas for taking children’s portraits in the studio (not the “Wal-Mart” studio style…naturally)

    Possibly some actions for textures.

  245. 245. Sylvia Cook Says:

I’d like to see an Adobe Camera Raw tutorial. As far as photography topics go, I’d be interested in a lesson on when and how to use a macro lesson and a lesson on achieving sunflare. You have so many great actions its difficult to come up with any suggestions. A cropping action would be helpful to speed up workflow.

  247. 247. Amy Dungan Says:

Awesome giveaway! Thanks! I’m already a member of your fan page, so that was easy! :)

    1. I’d love to learn more about using actions. Some of the customized parts confuse me. LOL
    2. I’d like to see topics on getting the most out of your lens/camera (ie. finding the focus “sweet spot”, etc.)
    3. You have so many actions! I can’t imagine you not already covering it all! LOL I do love the actions that really make a photo pop to life though!

1 – Photoshop Tutorials – Sharpening is definitely one I’m interested in. Also, resizing images for certain print sizes etc. And I know nothing about curves, but again, I know you have a workshop for that.

2 – Photography topics – Hmmm….you do such an amazing job of talking about so much. Maybe some basic camera functions or workflow, I have no clue what I’m doing after I’ve taken a bazillion photos and I upload them. What about lightroom? I would love for you to talk more about that program or about integrating both lightroom and photoshop.

3 – Actions – Lightroom actions that do similarly what your photoshop actions do! Your actions are incredible!

    3. Is noiseware an action? If so, would love to see something like that, that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

  257. 257. Jaime Profeta Says:

Photoshop Tutorials? I’d love to see stuff on removing colour casts and improving localized colours. Also how to do things with textures. I’d really love to know more about how to make use of the history brush.

Photography Tutorials? How to use ambient light to your best advantage, especially outdoor for portraits. Composition tutorials (something beyond just the ruled of thirds)

Actions? I love ethereal type actions. Always love to see more of those! And can there ever be enough black and white conversion actions? Black and white combined with texture to give vintage looks would be great.

    1. Photoshop Stuff – I really don’t understand masks and I desperately need to learn how to BATCH EDIT!! I’m a nursing student so what very little time I have is dedicated to studying… so any tips/tricks for editing more quickly would just make my life 100x easier!!!

    2. Photography – I’d love to learn more OCF and backlighting – those are two areas I really struggle with.

    3. Actions – Future actions… hmmm… I’m not sure. I already love your Magic Skin! How about an awesome workflow action… start to finish type thing. Did I mention that I was a nursing student and that I have NO freet time?!? An action like that would put me over the moon!!!

  269. 269. Julia Shinkle Says:

    1. I would like to see a tutorial on how you evaluate what a photo needs “done” to it in photoshop to make it looking best. For example, what is your approach or thought process to decide what action to apply, what kind of sharpening, what type of photos lend themselves to b&w and texture. Sometimes I find myself looking at a photo and I don’t know where to start or I don’t know what it needs to make it shine! And since the possibilities are endless, it gets overwhelming. I am still trying to develop my own style so that makes it difficult.

    2. I know for sure what I would like to know photographically. I would love to she a video of how you set up a shot or session. For example, using statements like “I am going to choose an ISO of 200 because…or I am going to choose this aperature because ultimately I want the photo to have this feel…or because the subject is backlit I am going to set the camera’s metering mode to this to create this type of result.” I would love to see some real in the field or studio think flow type lessons.

    3. As far as actions that is hard to say it seems like you have all the bases covered. Maybe more storyboards? Those are always great!

oo I LOVE this site:D As far as tutorials, I always like tutorials on how to make a picture go to the next level. OH and how to take a picture of a big group of people and have them ALL look in focus, I struggle with that one. I also would love a tutorial/action on a great funky vintage look. I LOVE all vintage look that is yet SO BRIGHT and rich with color that I have been seeing alot lately, if that makes sense. As opposed to just bland and lighter. um photography topic, maybe what different lens makes a collection “complete” and different editing programs and their pros and cons. OH and any LR tutorials would be FAB! :D

    3. Lands, there are so many actions out there, that I don’t know what to add…

  275. 275. Katie Scott Says:

Well, I’d love to see an action that makes it an easy process to resize my photos for a blog! That may exist but maybe I just don’t know about it! :) I’m definitely interested in lightroom tutorials because I use that a lot! And lastly, I’ve love some topics on lighting!!!!!!!!! I need help in that category. I love natural light, but I want to be able to do cool/dramatic stuff with lighting!

  276. 276. Jen Wites, The Art of Life Photography Says:

I would like to see a photoshop tutorial on how to make a photo with really beautiful natural light when the actual photo is flat, and also creating natural skin tones. As far as photography topics covered on the blog, tips for nailing focus would be great. I love all your actions but if there could be one specifically for enhancing a sky that would be great! Thanks!

  277. 277. Pam Davis Says:

Love you blog, still working on the facebook thing. I am always interested in layer masks, I also started with film and have a difficult time with the ISO think I use Nikon and I am never sure how high I can go and how to spot noise and how to get rid of noise. As far as actions go you have pretty much covered that I am not sure I can think of anything expect maybe a texture overlay. I really hope I WIN

  278. 278. Jackie Vanover Says:

Trainings? I’d like a training on creating/modifying actions – so we can make those modifications that make our work unique. And I agree with the training on better B&W conversions!

Topics – Like others I would like to see discussions on session dynamics, poses, setting-up the shot.

New actions? None stand out right now!

    Great prizes! Thanks!

  280. 280. Aimee Lashley Says:

First of all, Jodi, I must say that I LOVE everything about your blog and website. You are such a WEALTH of information. As for PS tutorials – maybe more on natural light processing. Photo topics – gonna go with natural light on that, too, but some neat studio setups and/or props are always fun. Actions for MCP Blog – you have so much to offer!!! Not sure I even know what to ask for, but keep doing what you’re doing. LOVE them all!!!

  281. 281. Lindsay Horn (Lindsay Horn Photography) Says:

Tutorials: Curves (help!) and correcting for white balance in Photoshop. Topics: White balance (getting it right in camera), more guest speakers – I really enjoy reading specifics about specialties, RAW vs. JPG – pros and cons. Actions: Wow, your action sets seem so complete, that’s a tough one. Someone mentioned the typical “newborn” edit – kind of hazy low contrast … maybe you already have one that does that (I don’t have all of them … yet). Thanks for the awesome contest – I didn’t know anything existed that could add flare!

  282. 282. Heather Caudill Says:

I would love to know more about how a wacom tablet is used for editing photos, I have one, but never used it :( . For photography tutorials I would love to know more about location scouting and coaching subjects to evoke natural interactions and emotions. There are so many great actions already, so just more creative stuff, especially color effects and the cross processing look. Thanks!

I’d like to see tutorials on removing backgrounds and adding backgrounds. I’m new to the blog, and I haven’t had the chance to look at the archives so I apologize if I suggest something that has been done before, but I’d like to see a tutorial on portrait photography, particularly infants/babies. I’m REALLY new to actions, but colorizing is always nice!

    Thanks!

I’d love to see more tutorials on colour correcting and skin tones, more articles on choosing the right photography gear, and maybe some about getting started in the business, and as for actions…hmm I love them all but would love to see some more textures maybe?
    Great competition!

  286. 286. Maria Black Says:

Well, right now I’m struggling with getting these boring white overcast skies to look naturally blue in pics. So a tutorial on fixing that would be great! As far as Photography topics, I would love to read about anything and everything to keep up with the latest trends, esp. with senior photography. As for actions, I am always a sucker for new vintage actions.

  287. 287. Kimberly Smith Says:

Hi Jodi,LOVE your blog – for someone new to photo editing your blog has been awesome. I learn something new and can’t wait for the next post.

What tutorials would I like to see? More on Skin. Skin seems to be the hardest thing (at least for me)…particularily when you have multiple subjects. Any tips and tricks on skin would be awesome. Also white balance…or light metering.
What topics would I like to see? Lighting, Lighting, Lighting. I seem to always be struggling with lighting…where to place the lights vs. subjects etc. Lighting always seems to elude me. Also as a new photographer I would like to see more interviews which talk about how people started, tips and tricks to starting up your business etc.
What types of actions would I like to see? I have seen quite a few photos circulating that have a dreamy sunshiny feel to them or actions that give photos that fun old seventies look but yet still keep bright colors.

  288. 288. Brittney Melton Says:

    2. I like how you make us work for these!

    * What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
Well, here’s the thing, and you may not believe this, but I promise it’s the truth: I often don’t realize that I really need to know how to do something until you post a tutorial. Then, I’m all, “I can’t believe I haven’t been doing that!” I mean that “lose 10 pounds” trick? Changed my life! So, yeah, just more. (I know that’s not a helpful answer, but it’s the truth.)

    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?
I’m new to the business part of photography. Perhaps some more topics on the nuts-and-bolts of running a photography business–both part-time and full-time.

    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?
I’m still saving up to buy up the actions you’ve already created, so I’m not completely sure what more could be added. I prefer “perfecting” actions more than artistic ones.

Hi Jodi, you may have already done this in the past but I would like to see a tutorial on how you touch up eyes and make them look so good without being over-processed.

I would like to find a good action on creating and adding a copyright symbol to pictures.

I’m already a fan of your fabulous Facebook page! I would love to see more tutorials on making your pictures just really pop overall. I’m finding myself in a rut where I’m taking good pictures, but I can’t figure out what I want to do to them to make them WOW pictures. I would also like to see more business topics covered on the blog, such as branding, marketing, etc. I think this side of the business is somewhat neglected in our world and we need to show how important it really is. Finally, I would love to see some fantastic BW actions from MCP that will really make an image stand out! Thanks for all that you do Jodi, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for you next!

    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?

How to set up a photo well. I do stupid things like take pictures of people with garage doors in the background or trash cans. Cool, eh?

    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?

I really haven’t gotten into actions yet but I think I would like something that makes a photo more dramatic perhaps create a misty, gothic feel … if there is such a thing?

Thank you so much for the opportunity to win.

  299. 299. Susan Baggett Says:

I would like to know more about saving those ‘bad’ pictures. I don’t get them often, but when I do – and I know it’s a good picture in the long run – how do I get there!?

Photography Topics: where to go to get the great urban settings, the farm settings, out in the middle of a wheatfield settings – where are these cool spots without being chase away by the owner??

actions: they are all awesome, I couldn’t ask for more! Just keeping doing your amazing work!

  301. 301. Rose Says:

I am fairly new to CS4 so any tutorials are greatly appreciated, but I would love some on levels or color correcting. (I realize this is a huge area but any thing regarding photo editing would be wonderful.) I also just purchased my first SLR (nothing fancy, but fancy enough for me, it’s a Nikon D90) so anything regarding photo tips would be great. I loved the series on baby photography, and using natural light. Tips and tricks!! And actions…hmmmm. I would love actions on paper tears, or curling photo edges, simple things that I can use for my scrapbooking, but that would be made faster and easier using actions I guess. That may not be mainstream, but that’s what I’m using CS4 for, is editing my photos and scrapping them. Thanks for the opportunity for the giveaway, I’m already a fan of your MCP facebook site. These would be a great prize to win! My name is Rose Stavast, not too common I hope!

  302. 302. Sarah Wolfe Says:

I have fallen in love with photography the last two years. Through the time consuming process of learning photoshop basics and lately through the discovery of actions, I’m getting closer to creating the art that your photos are. I’m so thankful for the tutorials you’ve already posted. In regards to your questions, 1.) I’d like to see more tutorials regarding skin tones. I know that you already have some, but if there are other options or ways to explain it that would be helpful. I still struggle in that area. 2.)I think a topic I’d like to see posted would be posing your subjects. What are good natural poses that don’t look over posed in situations where someone is posing for you. I have a hard time coming up with new ideas for more portraits. 3.)I would love some dramatic lighting actions, similar to these remarkable textures you’ve posted. They’re really incredible..I love the before/after effects.

  303. 303. Patty Reiser Says:

  305. 305. Jessica Orchard Says:

Tutorials? I need to learn much much more about everything and anything! :0)
Topics? This blog has such a wealth of information so there could already be plenty of this but I need many pointers on lighting, natural and flash, using reflectors, etc.
Actions? I love any and all actions and own a few sets of MCP ACtions already. I’m always a sucker for actions that make colors pop in different ways. Also ones that give a “unique” effect.

    * What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?

Maybe some focused on ACR and on Bridge.. (I am not a LR user) I think a lot of your tutorials are very well done (the ones that don’t involve your actions)

    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?

Well I am a big manual person and just now tryint to shooting in S or A modes.. I find myself never happy and always go back to manual because I don’t like what the camera chooses for me.. I know a lot of people only use S or A.. am I missing something? Also talk about auto ISO vs setting your ISO (I know you shoot canon – I shoot nikon – I believe they might be a bit different) my auto iso has a setting for min. shutter speed and max iso I want to hit.. seems like my camera stays at that max iso no matter what .. probably an io error – Idiot Operator on my part

You are so generous, this is an awesome giveaway. I would have to say that skin tones seem to be so hard to me, any tutorials on that would be awesome. Reminds me I must go through the archives here too. Oh, I would love to learn more about lightroom, I just feel so lost whenever I open that program. As for photography subjects more about lighting, flash, studio really anything would be great, it is all good. Actions? you have so many, I am not sure something to sharpen pictures just right for the web.

  309. 309. heather Says:

let me start by saying – I just love your work – I am still fairly new at photography and you are a true inspiration

    1. Tutorials on making eyes pop
    2. Topics on cut-outs from background
    3. Actions on frames and borders

  310. 310. Laurie Flickinger Says:

    1. I would love to see more tutorials on specific types of post processing, such how to post process babies, toddlers, (I loved the one on teens), etc.

    2. I would love to see a tutorial on how to shoot at the beach for those beach trips.

    3. I would love to see some creative actions that wouldn’t necessarily make it in print, but would look cool on websites. Do you know what I mean?

  311. 311. Julie Feldman Says:

What an awesome contest! I never win at this stuff but I always try so here’s to throwing my name into the hat! I would love to see tutorials on using gradients and how to create your own storyboards or blog boards. That would be helpful. I love the interviews so more of those on the blog is good or topics on marketing yourself, how to get your business up and running or even good business practices would be good topics. Actions that I would definitely purchase are workflow actions. It takes me so much time to open, do my actions, save, resize, add my logo, and save another copy. That type of action would be awesome for me! Thanks Jodi for continuing to have a killer blog. I look at it everyday and learn something new all the time. You Rock!

  312. 312. Sandra Lemin Says:

What I would like to see more on is maybe Lightroom. A way to use your actions in lightroom. Maybe a editing tutiorial from beginning to end ( upload, to editing, to post processing) From a typical session.
Shooting in bight sun in the middle of the day my hardest time to shoot.

More actions on working with the skin tones this seems to be my biggest issue right now. Maybe how to apply makeup digitally. And to go along the way with the lightroom stuff maybe a few lightroom presets.

Love your your site and all of the info that you share.
    Sandra

  313. 313. Sharon Hawker Says:

What type of Photography tutorials would I like to see? Since I am more of a sight learner I would like to see some video tutorials on how the brushes and textures are applied. Both sound like they would be fun to see and apply to photos but I’m not sure I totally understand how to use them. I am fairly new to photoshop so maybe in time it will make more sense:)
What type of photography topics would I like to see? Exposure, how to get it perfect or as close to perfect in camera as possible. Also, white balance. If you are shooting in changing light it really isn’t practical, to me anyways, to take a custom white balance every few minutes or every time you change locations. Is there a faster easier way to get correct white balance or just shoot raw and fix it in photoshop?
What type of actions would I like to see? I am also new to actions but I want to buy ALL of yours!!! However, money is forcing me to acquire them slowly:) So as I am not totally familiar with all of your actions I don’t know what all you already have. I do like the vintage looks and black and whites.

  314. 314. Peggy Arbeene Says:

» What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?
I have just discovered how to use your frame and change the color. Love it. Can you show how to make a frame border a different pattern .. i.e., if the subject has a flower dress or plaid skirt .. how to copy that and make it the frame border? Also, more blue prints .. I am a visual learner and I find those types of articles extremely helpful.

» What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?

how to make the most of studio lighting when your space is small. I appreciated seeing how your studio was set up for the Lastolite hi-key .. that was helpful.

also Canon 580ex Flash .. how do you use yours, do you use any of the custom settings.

and .. can you make WB for dummies … which WB setting do you use in the studio or with flash .. the “lightening bolt”? Or are there other times when you should use something different.

But anything you have written about, I have found so helpful .. so keep it up!

» What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?

you have the Eye Doctor and Dentist .. .. can you do one for lips .. changing or adjusting lipstick and then adding a gloss to the lips.

I don’t know if you’d ever be able to design an action for this, maybe a PS tutorial .. but sometimes I have ladies come and they have chipped nail polish (my pet peeve) ..how to fix that or look like you gave them a fresh manicure/pedicure.

    Thanks Jodi.

For Photography tutorials, I only shoot in natural light settings and would love to learn new ideas (trends). For new actions, I have several of your actions and LOVE all of them. I like the suggestion from others to see an action that creates a dreamy feel with a lens flare. I love those types of shots, especially for children.

    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future? I work in child photography, but I don’t know what to do with families. When the grandparents or extended family show up, they want to be “posed” I try to explain i don’t do posing, I am candid/lifestyle, and the adults just want me to direct them. How do youdirect people to act natural! :-)
    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future? color correction and haze lifting, you know when it looks like you shot through a light fog. Getting it right in the camera is great, but sometimes it’s just all wrong and needs saving.

  325. 325. Ashley Larsen Says:

I love tutorials! My favorite is Friday’s with BluePrints. I wish the two could be combined. Sometimes I don’t quite grasp what was done to the blueprint. A step by step tutorial would be awesome!
As far as topics, I am definitely learning something everyday… and that is all I can ask. More tutorials if you ask me.
Actions! Super excited to go and use the new sharpening freebie! Thanks. You are the mastermind there, and I have no suggestions. I think they are great.

Hi! Thanks for this amazing blog Jodi!

Photoshop tutorials I would like to see are the basic basics. I am such a newbie and have no idea what I am doing. Even the most basic term is like a foreign language to me.

Photography topics would be different ways to nail focus and get sharp sharp images out of the camera. Also, real world photography situations from behind the scenes. How you handled difficult situations and why with concrete suggestions and exif data. Also, shooting when the light isn’t perfect. What to do?

Actions I would like to see are sharpening, color pop, vignetting, and anything to make work flow easier and faster.

    Thanks again!

  334. 334. Mary Basu Says:

Tutorials – Variations on techniques to make accurate selections. Ways to use color channels to affect the full color image. A good b/w tutorial is always helpful – how to create different style b/w versions of an image (or even how to decide if a photo is a good candidate for b/w), How to make selections to creatively apply effects – e.g. only to shadows, only to highlights

Photography – lighting tutorials are always good. How about mixing natural light with flash. Or a follow up to the pp question – how about shooting with b/w conversions in mind.

Actions – skin correction with layers, creative effects, selective exposure effects.

    Thanks!

    * What type of Photoshop tutorials would you like to see on the MCP Blog in the future?

    * What type of Photography topics would you like to see covered on the MCP Blog in the future?

Posing people and using on-camera flash to your best advantage.

    * What type of actions would you like to see from MCP in the future?

I need a black & white that really zings with contrast, and one you can use on babies to make the image really light and airy. My B&W on babies always looks too grey on their skin.
I’d also like one that adds punch and makes the colours pop without making the dark colours black (I often find this problem with boosting/colour pop actions.
And finally, skin smoothing actions that are fairly straight-forward! So many I find you have to adjust things I’ve never even *heard* of between every step. I don’t mind tweaking the layers once the action has run, but I hate adjusting between each step!

Every time I practice, I feel THIS time my pics will finally be SHARP and I load them onto my computer, and I am disappointed! Is it aperture, is it shutter speed, is ISO, is it my focusing point . . . is it me? I know we all have to start some where, but I am yearning to take pics that have SHARP eyes! (Clearly, I have had to much coffee today and am SUPER passionate about SHARPNESS! LOL!) 3) I have the MCP I Want it All package and all the freebies that have been posted (AMAZING!) so any other actions are just icing on the cake for me. Thank you so much Jodi! 393. 393. Peyton Baldwin Says:

Everything I have seen so far on your site is very informative and helpful. I am fairly new to photography, so I like to learn about all kinds of things. But if I had to choose some tutorials I would like more on color correction. I love seeing colors pop and want to know how to get all of my photos to look that way.

I would like to maybe see some more topics that deal more with the business side of photography. Maybe where to get started or contracts, etc.

You have a bunch of different actions, and I can honestly say I do not know for sure all of the ones you already have. But for me, I’d like an action that will automatically put my logo on a photo or a border with my logo in it. Something like that. Then it might be helpful to actually have a tutorial on that as well.

    Ok…

photography topics….exposure in general, exposure selection..when there are light and dark focal points, white balance.

actions….I love all actions. I don’t discriminate! I would, however, love to see a build your own action package. Not one that selects two or three sets, but an actual “build you own” set. I find that I love individual actions from different sets. It’s hard to afford all of the sets, but, if a “create your own” option was availabe!!!!!! That would be “wicked cool.”

    1. Photoshop tutorial: Can you show me how to batch save? I know that should be easy, but I haven’t figured that out! I’d also like to learn how to make storyboards for my blog…or even for printing for the scrapbooking I never get done!

    2. Photography topics: Actually, I’d love to learn how to put my clients at ease quickly. Making them feel comfortable in front of the lens. Not posed and stiff.

    3. Actions: I have enjoyed that few actions that I have. But I am just scratching at the surface of the actions world. Could there be an action to do a batch save I was talking about in my first answer?
