Seeing in a new way is exactly what I’m doing! Just got contact lenses, no more glasses, and can actually PLACE “intentional blur” in my capture where I actually want it to be! Go Lensbaby :)

Seeing in a new way… I saw being a mom in a new way when I had to photograph a dying newborn for a non-profit I’m involved with. The pictures were very hard to take and even harder to process but I got to see being a mom in a new way and doubly appreciate my children in a new way. Although I’m not sure I’d do a session like that again it touched me deeply.

    Sarah Wolfe says:

I’ve always been obsessed with faces, eyes and expressions. As I’ve fallen in love with photography I see the world as a whole with different eyes, a renewed vision. It’s suddenly more beautiful and I see simple things, a cup of coffee, the way my baby’s hand is curled just so on his pillow, a lone weed standing proud in a field of lush grass as not only lovely, but something I can capture with a lens and share with others. Moments of beauty are all around me, life is a celebration and photography helps me capture things that a year ago I could have just walked right by never noticing. I see in a new way.

    Debi says:

Seeing things in a new way to me is seeing them thru a lens of beauty. Every building, sunset or sunrise, clump of trees, field of corn, old barn, wrinkled face, sleeping face, joyful face, new born face, chocolate face is a thing of beauty. Loving life and wanting to capture it means looking at everything you see today in a new way – looking at it as a thing of beauty.

    Jessika says:

When someone says to me, “I never would have taken that picture!” it means that I’m seeing things in a new way. It might be a new way to me or a new way to the people in my life, but it’s something that’s unconventional in it’s thought. Sometimes that means seeing things plainly, and sometimes that means seeing plain things extraordinarily.

    Stevi Sayler says:

I have always thought of photography as a way for me to show others how I look at things and how I see the world. I can help those around me to find the beauty in a situation or scene that they may have never noticed. I think it is important to stop every once in a while and to look around you and find something you think is fascinating or beautiful. Some of my favorite things to photograph are abandoned buildings and things/places that are unloved and overlooked. I think if people took more time to see things differently and to appreciate what is in front of them and around them everyday the world would be a happy and more peaceful place.

For me, “seeing in a new way” is all about taking time to see new possibilities. Getting lost in the usual way of doing things is easy to do. It doesn’t require much effort and represents an area of comfort. It’s also a place where we can find ourselves in a rut. One of the best things I do to get myself out of a photo funk is to challenge myself to do something different. There are so many things in life that we simply miss as we rush through…a new angle, an unusual bug, the way the light hits a subject, the beauty of the deep green leaves against the bright blue sky with puffy white clouds….(you get the idea)
“Seeing in a new way” is to me about slowing down and taking it all in. Experiencing as much around me as I can possibly absorb…challenging my mind, my skills and my senses!

To see in a new way………I photograph flowers. I try to get new and interesting angles when I shoot. It’s not easy to do but, I keep trying. I would love to see what I could do with this lens.
Thank you for the opportunity to try to win this lens.

Seeing in a new way… through the lens. Scenery, faces, objects are so different… and can take on different feelings, settings, etc. And the lensbaby would only help that!!! :)

    kathryn says:

To me “seeing in a new way” means putting your spin on things. Capturing what “you” see through the lens and sharing it through your photography. For example when looking at some dahlia and most people would just see a pretty flower. However a when i look at that dahlia I see how the petals of the flowers form a small delicate heart. And that is what I capture with my lens. I see that flower in a new way.

I started seeing a whole new world when I moved to the United Arab Emirates. A friendly family orientated place where moms can still take the time to get to spend with their children and that lead me to see life in a whole new way entirely. Through the eyes of young children, laughter, joy. What followed was that the passion flowed to photography to capture that spirit in their eyes. Every day brings more interest, more intrigue. They inspire me, they give me joy and so much love. For someone who worked from 7am till 8pm life changed dramatically and I definitely see things in a new way. Sometimes from down below trying to capture my baby crawling up a slide and sometimes from up high trying to catch my eldest doing something naught. However so, its definitely so much more fun than the old life!

  12. 112
    Val says:

Seeing in a new way- as an amateur photographer, I try to see the “done so many times” shots in a new way. A different focal point, a different composition, a different angle. Sometimes it feels like everything has been done! We have to stretch our brains and our eyes and try to get something fresh.

  13. 113

Oh how I have been so discouraged lately…

My thoughts recently were to start changing things up. I really need to take something old and make it new again. I have been eyeing one of these for a while and just can’t afford to add it to my gear right now…it would be great to win it. I want to do all those cool things with that lens baby. Boy wouldn’t that spark my creativity again…!

  14. 114

“Seeing in a new way” for me means go out to shoot at night. I love the sounds, smells and possibilities when everyone is asleep. So inspiring.

    Jeannie says:

Seeing differently outwardly comes from first looking inwardly, either at myself or my subjects, and figuring out the story, the moods, or the opinions within the subject.

  16. 116
    Kelly says:

I see everything in a whole new way, but my favorite thing is old buildings. Before photography, I never cared about the old downtowns, but now I appreciate them so much. Not only do I love having my client’s photo sessions downtown, but I also love just walking around and taking pictures of the old buildings.

I was working on an assigned subject for a camera club I belong to whose montlhy challenge was a bugs eye view. I think I slithered and crawed through all kinds of muck getting low to things. This assignment really reinfoced how a different perspective can really go along way in creativity. ~Jackie

    sara basile says:

Seeing in a ‘New Way’ to me is just seeing things different and uniquely. Recently I shot pictures of a couple seeing their reflection through the mirror on the guy’s vespa. The pictures came out awesome and they really appreciated the unique way I thought. When I was shooting the pictures they weren’t really sure what I was doing but when they saw them they were amazed. I think seeing in a ‘new way’ can be making OTHER people see in a new way too, which is one of my favorite things to do :D .

  20. 120
    Traci B. says:

Seeing in a new way used to mean trying different angles, different film, different lighting, a few filter, all the things photographers can use to make one item look completely different.

    But then I had kids.

Now seeing in a new way, to me, is about seeing things that I would never notice before. A bird flying over our car in the parking lot. A gemstone sticker abandoned on the side walk. How amazing it is to “find” your hand for the first time?! Seeing my daughters look at their world from their perspective is the best way to see in a new way! No matter what it is, they’re curious and it all looks amazing. I’d love for the world to always seem fresh looking to me, and now, no matter what I shoot, I try to make it seem new, and not just another picture.

  21. 121
    Victoria says:

I think my love of photography helps me “see in a new way”. Before the camera certain things were beautiful at different times. After the camera….I see everything as a potential photograph, as a potential piece of art. I have often said that when I look around me now (without a camera in hand), I see as though looking through a viewfinder. I find the light and angles and compositions and the stories I want to tell in the scenes in front of me.

  22. 122
    Bart Leger says:

For me, seeing in a new way is taking the time to actually look and take in a scene and thinking. I try to clear my mind and envision the possiblities rather than going to something I’ve done before.

  23. 123
    Theresa says:

We tend to look at the same things day in and day out. To me, “seeing things differently” is about focusing on the details… the light, the textures, the twirl of a dress, the wisp of hair flowing in the breeze, the muddy feet after a hard day at play, these things often go unnoticed. Related to photography, when one captures these things it is often viewed as a different perspective, or seeing things differently. And when these things are forever frozen in an image that is when the details can/are appreciated.

  24. 124
    Tonya says:

seeing in a new way to me means not only to see the beauty in beautiful things, but to be able to look at the not so beautiful (like a pile of trash) and find something beautiful within it and be able to capture that in a creative way.

  25. 125
    Carol M says:

“Seeing it in a new way” for me means to find the beauty in everything, sure the boat floating on the still water with it’s reflection looks great, but how about the rusty anchor keeping it from drifting away. Look around, your main subject is often right under your nose and not at all what you were initially looking for. Change your angle, shoot from underneath, try new things all the time, there is nothing to lose. I recently accompanied another photographer on a wedding he was shooting. I was amazed as we trekked through a field of wheat to get to an abandoned old house. I cringed as he laid on his side on the old, dirty floor in this house to get his shot of the bride sitting on the ledge where there was once a window. His shot was amazing. This taught me to forget about getting dirty, do whatever you need to get the shot that inspires you, the results can be incredible!

    Heather says:

“seeing in a new way” means stepping out of your comfort zone of how you would normally “see” through your lens and taking chances you may not always take and getting creative with your pictures. Love it!

  27. 127

Photography has helped me to see everything differently. I enjoy looking at the world with a new eye and all the possibilities. Capturing that moment is so rewarding now.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend a small photography workshop and I learned to look not at what something is, but what it can become. I’m hoping to change my focus and head a different direction with my photography – especially senior photography. Asking myself this question enables me to “See in a New Way” as a phototgrapher.

    Thanks for hosting this contest!

    Karin says:

Photography is all about ‘seeing in a new way’ for me. A simple drive to town or through a new area inspires me. That old run-down shed in an overgrown field or some unused train tracks or simply finding a location with the perfect lighting. Seeing in a new way sometimes means finding a different angle, trying a new pose or shooting outside of the ‘rules’. It’s about capturing a feeling and sharing an emotion. Ultimately it’s about finding the beauty and truth in everything.

  31. 131

It may sound somewhat cliche, but doing Project 365 for the first time this year has really pushed me to see things in a new way. It happens constantly – I look at a certain plant in the garden differently, or suddenly realize how cute a cluster of books is. Keeping up with it has been challenging, but the payoff is incredible for my photography as a whole and my perspective in particular. Thanks for doing this giveaway! :)

I think we all hanker to go to an exotic place, or have an opportunity to photograph a stunning subject to get those photos we dream of. But it was pointed out to me that the best place to take photographs is where you are. Right now. You just have to stop, slow down, see, and see in new ways. How often do we take the time to slow down? So I tried it, I took my D200 (my backup camera) with a 50mm 1.8 lens, in my handbag, (wrapped in a piece of clothing for padding) each day with a 50mm 1.8 lens. No big camera bags, no fancy high end zooms. And when I waited places I made myself take it out, and take photos from where I was sitting… and I saw new things, shapes, forms, the play of light on objects, the unguarded expressions on passersby… and I improved… but I still have along way to go on this journey and always look for the next lesson or inspiration…

    Thanks for sharing this Jody!

looking for detail, or shape, or color, or texture, or just about anything to photograph. color…oh, how I love color! I love looking for new angles to take the “same old photograph”. finding that something different (angle, lighting, weather) that sets the “same old photograph” apart and truly makes it stand out.

“seeing in a new way” happened to me once I got into photography. My view of the world has never been the same since. I feel like I am constantly looking through a viewfinder. I find patterns in everyday objects, I compose scenes in my mind, I get distracted by the catchlights in people’s eyes….it is never ending. I love that I am now able to view the world through a viewfinder!!

what “seeing in a new way” means to you:

Seeing in a new way means doing something you never thought you would… like taking a picture laying on the ground… or climbing in a tree to get a bird’s eye view. People always think I’m crazy when I lay on the ground… but it just gives a different perspective. I’m still learning and falling in love with photography every day. I recently got a 50mm 1.4 and I’m trying to view things differently since this is a much different lens than I have previously used. Hoping to get some new ideas SOON!

I posted on Twitter and on Facebook…

    Andrea says:

Since I first picked up a camera, my goal has been to basically take a picture as if I’m a fly on the wall. I want to experience things the way they always are, the way a child looks at her mother as she puts her wedding dress on, the way the light shines through the branches on a cool autumn morning, even the way two siblings pester each other despite their mom’s pleas to cut it out.
To me, that is “seeing in a new way”. So often, when people see a camera they get that cheesy, almost lame smile on their face and strike a pose. But I want to be able to give them their true self on film, the beauty that is themselves.

  41. 141
    Nancy Evans says:

For me, seeing things in a new way came when I accepted the challenge of a “picture a day” for 365 days. It taught me to look at things differently, experience textures, look from different angles, perpectives and see the “vision” and composition of a photograph. But more importantly, it’s a gift to see that ALL things are beautiful and each thing offers something unique. It has been a great adventure so far and I’m looking forward to the end of the year book I’m creating of all my pictures.

  42. 142
    catherine k smith says:

Seeing in a new way for me, as a newbie, is to slow down & get a fresh perspective in and around all the places where I have lived for 20 years – to find that cool angle, funky spot, untouched place where I can practice practice practice – and start to develop my own style. That lensbaby would really expand my horizons! Thanks for the great blog & contest!

  43. 143
    Laura says:

when i look through the lens i try to tie together all the elements that i see. even if if means a facial expression and the dominant colors of a photo or even the positioning of hands – it all means something and it should all flow together. this is the most important aspect of photography to me.

  44. 144
    emily says:

Seeing in a new way embodies trying to find the beauty in anything and everything. What one would view as ugly, I want to see as beautiful. Something or someone that I might have once passed by without a second glance now to me is something to behold and capture with my camera.

  45. 145
    Denise Olson says:

Since beginning the photo adventure, I am constantly seeing the world in a new way. whether its the subject that I’m photographing, experimenting with new lens or camera settings, my postprocessing exploration, or even handing my camera to my 4 yr old to determine how wee ones see the world through the lens. The creative adventures never seize, and the outcome grows.

    Rebecca Sior says:

Seeing in a new way? There’s so much to say about it, but so little space! I guess I will just say that photography has taught me to see the whole world in a new way. I know, everyone says that. But it’s so true. I started just seeing things in a new way when I started my photo adventures years and years ago. Then I started to see people in a new way. Now I see light in a totally brand spanking new way (I just love me some good light!). The biggest, most exciting thing I’m seeing in a new way is ME. Seriously – photography has taught me more about myself than it has taught me about composition and lighting and background and aperture. I’m learning how to be creative, how to express myself, and how to be proud of my work – even if it’s not as good as some of the pros out there. I’m learning to let go and enjoy the experience of learning. Some day (maybe with fun new toys to stimulate my growth!) I’ll get where I want to be. But if I don’t, the journey will be totally awesome!

  47. 147
    Daniel says:

Seeing in a new way, for me, is narrowing my focus to specific topics to change my perspective on those subjects. Whether it be photographing only items of a certain color, using a certain perspective (high vs low, etc), macros of textures, a specific type of animal, a particular kind of person, whatever. As a “picture taking enthusiast”, we often find ourselves taking photos that just try to capture a whole scene so pull it all in so we don’t miss anything.
As a photographer, however, we’re also interested in the fine details and artistic aspect of a photo as well. The best way to draw our attention to these details is to limit our photographic focus and goals for a time to tune into them. If we do this enough, we can become unconsciously aware of it all and that in turn makes even our snapshots “better” – whatever that may mean to you.
The Lensbaby would allow me to combine “picture taking” and narrowing my focus into 1 photo, as the blurred effect will help to isolate part of a whole image, while still keeping a hint of the rest in the shot. That, to me, is very exciting.

  48. 148
    Von says:

To me ‘see in a new way’ is what happens everytime I pick up my camera. When I look at something through my camera I see it in a totally new way. It takes on a new form, a new life, a new view. Since trying my hand at photograpy I see everything a different way.

  49. 149
    Amie Chipping says:

What “seeing in a new way” means to me is experimenting with fellow photographers by both/all of us shooting at the same subject, and then comparing our different views with our end results. I find that I learn a lot not only about photography, but also about the photographers.

  50. 150

Because of blog stalking and interesting sites like yours I am seeing many ho hum locations as the proverbial pot of gold now. LOVE IT. It’s helping me tailor my sessions to fit the personalities of my clients better.

  51. 151
    Shannon says:

Seeing a new way means so many things to me. It means a new take on old things, a way to explore my world much as my children new with new and fresh eyes. It will give me something to do when I am feeling stresesd and want to unwind, it will be something that will open my eyes again to all that seems the same and mundane as I will look at it with a different viewpoint.

I have tried many challenges, but frequently find the most simple are the easiest to make happen, such as to just try shooting a new way.

  52. 152

Seeing in a new way to me means noticing something new in the old, capturing something through the lens that my eye has not noticed before. I love when I notice a beauty mark, or a dimple or something when I look at a photograph that maybe I never paid attention to before. When looking through that lens you see things a whole new way!

seeing in a new way has been driving me nuts (in a good way)
i find myself wanting to pull over on the side of the road to take a photo of the flower just sitting there with the light just hitting it oh so perfectly. i can take countless photos of my kids sleeping, each one different because their little hand moveD a bit or they just seem to snuggle a little closer to their blankey. ideas rush through my head when i pass an open field or find an abandoned barn, catchlights in people’s eyes pull me in and sometimes i get lost and cant hear what they are talking about. in this crazy world “seeing in a new way” has given me solace and I LOVE IT!

  55. 155
    Dawn R says:

I have been seeing in a new way ever since I got ‘serious’ about photography, about a year ago. I catch myself noticing things I hadn’t, on the exact same trips I’ve made time and time again. I notice lighting now, and everything just looks ‘prettier’. When I first started seeing things in a new way, I was always like, ‘Oh, man, I wish I had my camera!’ Now I take my camera everywhere I go. I love seeing things the way I do now, and can’t believe how much I missed out on before. :-) Thank you for the opportunity to possibly win the lensbaby composer. This has been on my wish list for a little bit now. Keeping my fingers crossed!

  56. 156
    Shawn says:

Seeing in a new way means challenging myself to constantly reevaluate my perspective, trying to capture the details, the mood, the atmosphere of the situation that I am photographing so accurately that the viewer can’t help but feel embraced by the photograph, like they were there.

  57. 157

I will give an example from a recent shoot of seeing in a new way. I recently did a family shoot and was craving the nontypical family poses. I got lots of inspiration beforehand and the shoot was probably my favorite outside of my baby boy. I shot from different perspectives of the typical lets sit on the bench pose. I also let the family share ideas and I believe that helps see from a different way. Sometimes we get so bogged down with all the technicals and, in my case, a 6 year old helps me create awesome, unique poses. So seeing in a different was is opening your eyes and mind and get moving and you may be surprised at how awesome your shots will come out.

  58. 158

Three months ago you would have thought my life was a HUGE distortion. The corporate 9-5 was taking a toll on me! I needed a change! I was bent out of shape. I prayed for the courage to fight the fear I had inside. Compose yourself girl!! Believe!! I am now focusing in on my business. My passion. My photography. I am zooming in on everything that is important and blurring out all the excess. Social Media has totally changed my life! I finally see the light. I have hope and faith like never before. I am finally moving forward! My life was jolted with inspiration. It feels like the world has tilted and pushed me into a path that I am loving. My dreams are within my reach. I’m seeing things in a new way. The Lensbaby way. My way.

  59. 159
    James says:

Seeing in a new way means, for me, to experience a vision in a way that I don’t get to see often. As a new Dad, I often wonder what it would be like to see the world through my child’s eyes. To experience the sights and colors for the first time… All the magic, beauty and wonder that the world holds. This is how I envision to see in a new way.

  60. 160
    Sue says:

As I practice photography, I challenge myself to move the ordinary to something extraordinary or move away from snapshots toward art. That most often involves attempting to “see things in a new way.” I have seen some fantastic work created by using the Lensbaby and would love to have the opportunity to explore, create, and “see things in a new way” with a Lensbaby. Great contest. I am posting a link on my blog and have joined the Facebook group!

I remember the early days of my photography journey, when my mentor exhorted me to “see things differently.” Oh, how those words confounded me! They were patiently repeated after each of my feeble attempts, haunting me, becoming increasingly irritating. And I took baby steps. Eventually, these wise words began to take hold. No longer content to do the same things, I sought to express or evoke some new emotion with my camera, to tell a timeless tale from a different perspective, to interpret the everyday in a way that made its value evident, to expose and celebrate the endless beauty in the people and world around me. As my creativity has grown, my satisfaction has grown. Still on my never-ending journey, those words echo today and spur me on. The words that confused, frustrated and humbled me have given me wings.

  63. 163

For me “seeing things in a new way” was undersanding that my “everyday” was special and beautiful and definately worthy of capturing. Seeing my everyday through my lens…my cat taking a nap in the sun, my son playing with his trains, my baby playing on the floor or my husband asleep on the couch on Sunday morning. Noticing even those seemingly mundane things and moments and capturing them, freezing that moment in time, through photography has been exciting and ultimately recording priceless pieces of “us”. This “new way of seeing things” and has also helped me with my professional photography helping me to be able to photograph clients and allow them to reveal themselves to me through the details that make up their personalities.

I love extremely shallow dof, a strong focus/out of focus ‘relationship’ in my pictures.
The other day I was reading about a new technique I haven’t heard about before – freelensing – so I went ahead and tried it. So much fun and such awesome results! The same 50 1.4 that would give me pretty predictable results (based on my choices on aperture or shutter speed), gave me surprising shots, with an amazing dof – no set aperture. Definitely a fun and new way of seeing things.

I love it that everytime I pick up my camera I have potential to see things in a new way. Having participated in Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk in North Vancouver, BC, I had the opportunity to explore an area that is so familiar to me, yet I saw things in a different light and with a different eye. I love going to familiar places, taking the lens cap off, putting my eye to the viewfinder and capturing something new for that moment. Thanks Jodi for a great blog!

I moved to Turkey from Canada when my daughter was 6 weeks old. I leapt into motherhood, a whole new culture, and a whole new life. Everything I see now, I see so differently than I did ere now. Being immersed in a culture so entirely different from those in which I grew up (British and Canadian,) I can’t help but conceive of the world in a different light– not from a wholly Western perspective though not Eastern either. Seeing things is entirely about perspective. And I would sure love to win a lensbaby lens to help me document the way I see things here in the Middle East! Thanks for the chance to win!

I had a hard time adjusting to being a mom. I was edgy and overwhelmed by the constant-ness of it it all. One day when my daughter was 6 months old, my mother and I dressed her up in some vintage baby clothes given to us by a friend. I picked up the camera to take some pictures for the thank you card, and as corny as it sounds to say this, in that moment, my life changed. As I looked through the camera at my daughter, everything melted away and I was able to see her pure self shining back at me. In being able to see her in this new way, I was able to focus on her right there in front of me and forget about all the things I thought I “should” be doing as a mom. Now, whenever I am struggling as a parent–and that does still happen, unfortunately–I look at those pictures and they remind me to stop what I’m doing and really see her, the wonderful being that she is almost four years later. And it is this same sense of truly seeing that I hope to bring to my photography, and the gift I hope to bring to the families I photograph.

Seeing in a new way is what photography has done for me. It has opened my eyes to so many new scenes. I never really looked and saw all the different elements in our world before. It has opened my eyes to beauty that is all around us. Beauty truly is in the eye of the photographer!

For me, sometimes it’s not about just grabbing that ‘perfect’ shot, but about capturing the essence of your subject. Sometimes real is beautiful :)

Seeing in a new way… I used to think photography was all about posing and getting the child to look right at the camera so you had the perfect picture. Then my son was diagnosed with Autism and he made me see photography in a different way. It isn’t all about the perfect pose and smiling right into at the camera, it’s wait I found this bug on the ground let’s pick it up and look at it and capturing those moments also. My son has shown me I needed to see photography in a new way so that I didn’t miss out on “his world”.

seeing the world in a new way, for me, is watching my 1-year old learn and explore and trying to capture that excitement. This lens sort of embodies that idea…of something SPECIFIC to be viewed in an itneresting way. The way little one’s see the world.

Seeing things in a new way, often means seeing things through someone else’s eyes. One of my favorite things to do is go shooting with friends. It could be an excursion or just to the park down the street. What always gets me is how we could essentially stand next to each other and shoot the same thing and we each go our seperate ways and post our photos online to share. When we look at each others images, we both realize that although we shot the same thing, our images look so strikingly different! Funny thing, we will both tell each other ‘I wish I could see it like you did!’

Seeing in a new way to me means noticing things that I never noticed before and capturing it to share with everyone. It is not just about getting a good photograph of a person, it is about capturing their own personal beauty which is the essence of who they are.

For me, seeing a new way is about exploration. I love to go in seemingly unwelcoming places to see what interesting things can be found. Finding new ways of expressing things helps me see a new way.

When you place yourelf ‘behind’ the camera lens you become invisible and secrets are shared you never knew existed…… you see in a new way…the world around you, the faces you love, the strangers you thought you knew… I love to ‘see in a new way’ everyday….

I’ve really begun seeing things in a new way since getting into photography. One example is just driving around in downtown areas. The textures, the bricks, the colors – I see them all now thinking what they would add to a picture. It’s amazing how photography changes your point of view on things. I’m linking back via facebook and twitter!! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a lensbaby!!

Seeing things in a new way for me is: I have become so inspired by some many amazing photographers’ blogs on the web. I just ordered my first DSLR. It is coming tomorrow in the mail. I cannot wait to capture new and fun things and try out all of the awesome tricks and advice that I have read over the past year. So that is how I am going to see things in a new way. Thanks!

I started seeing in a new way once I decided that I needed to work on a comprehensive story when photographing weddings. Before that I was just snapping pictures, but once I sat down and looked at my wedding photography I realized that my photographs had to tell a visual story of the day so I started to concentrate on having each photograph mean something in the timeline of that day.

“See in a new way” to me is break the rules and use technology to optimize and help your creativity. My “oh” moment was this weekend on the supermarket, i was waiting for my husband on the car and suddenly happened, a couple was kissing goodbye sooo beautifully inside an enormous chaos around them, people passing by with they market cars, going and coming, everyone doing their own stuff on a sunday afternoon… but they were spreading love so high that i take a shoot on my mind and think, that ideas are everywhere and no one will see it like you, so, i´ll love to win!!

Seeing things in a new way is getting my first DSLR! Now, I see the world through the eyes of someone who wants to capture the beauty they see!

Seeing things in a new way – for me, all comes down to perspective – an adventurous angle is always fun. — watching how light falls on subjects – in the back of my mind, always framing things up as if taking snap shots in my head and pondering them for future photo opportunities!

Love your blog – thank you for all the work you put into keeping us informed and learning!

    Jodi – you rock! :)

    Deborah says:

Ever since I have started getting into photography, I feel like I see everything in a new way. The way I look at a sunset, or the mountains, or my beautiful baby girl’s face – I’m constantly seeing in my head how I would like for it to look in a photograph. It also means not just capturing those posed pictures, but also the little things in life that matter – like her fingers or her toes or her messy face after eating lunch.

  84. 184

Seeing in a new way is composed of so many different factors. Other photographer’s creativity helps me see in a new way. Just getting out with my camera helps me see in a new way. Starting my own Photography business lately is helping me see many things in a new way – both opportunities & just how much organization I need! Seeing in a new way, to me, is about finding inspiration in all the little things in life like my daily tasks as well as intentionally considering angles, lighting & texture for a photo & using those in a new way.

Seeing in a new way – Stepping outside of the box and trying something different (may not be different to Photo Joe, but is different for you). Pushing your boundaries. Being as creative as YOU can be.

First of all, I hope this contest isn’t solely based on our talent of writing an essay, because the written word isn’t what I’m good at, photography is.
When I look through the lens of a camera I see in a new way, I see what most people don’t notice. I find beauty in things that others might find ugly. I see the beauty of this world in all of its bright colors, textures, and light. Quite often in everyday life I forget to notice the beauty that is all around me, but when I’m using a camera I see in a new way. A Lensbaby would help me expand my views even more of seeing in a new way.

Photography has certainly helped me to see in new ways. I notice details that I never noticed before. I notice the quality of the light and how a ray of sun touches things, or people! I notice the amazing beauty of things that I used to just walk past before photography!

Seeing in a new way is what a lensbaby is all about, anytime I need to see in another way I bring out my Freeman Patterson book The Art of Seeing and I am re-inspired all over again. One of my favs is to go into the woods and jump up and down with my camera held out and on a slow shutter and see what I get ( this is much easier with digital and I did do it with film).

    “Seeing in a New Way”

I picked up a camera on my first day of class and from that day forth, a hunger has emerged. Photography is not just a hobby for me, it is an outlet for creative thought, stress, anger, happiness. Photography has changed the way that I view the world–not just how I see objects and say, “Oh, that would make an amazing photograph”, but how I view everything I interact with. Movies. Television. People around me. I often pause movies and marvel at the composition of the frame. I talk to my sister and watch the subtlety of the expressions on her face as she complains about D**** from the ME Department and capture it in my mind.

From my first touch of a camera until now and perhaps forever, I am seeing life in a new way.

It’s simple really…it’s just fun to see the world from a different angle.

  93. 193

Seeing in a new way to me was all about changing my perspective on what my daughter might see. Instead of continually shoot at MY eye level, I got myself down low and started shooting some photos at her height. Using a right-angle finder I now know how big something can look, but more important how DIFFERENT it can look to someone so small.

  94. 194

Seeing in a new way – Producing something that makes you smile without worry if other will like you work or want to buy. Change you settings up for a blurry image, shoot the subject from behind for a new perspective, crop a lot more, include weird fixtures as backgrounds, etc

  95. 195

I love the way my Lensbaby let’s me see things in a new way. I don’t always follow all the Photography rules…and I love that I can shoot what I see and show it from a different perspective. Rock On Lensbaby!

    Pablo Varela says:

For me to see in a new way is to try something new, something unusual, like using a lens I have never used or I haven’t used for a while and keeping it on a whole weekend. Or deciding upon a subject for a few days and sticking to it. I remember a few years back I started shooting corners, but only close ups of the point where the two walls meet the floor.

    Crystal says:

For me, seeing in a new way has meant slowing down, pausing, taking time to consider and looking at the pieces that make up my whole life. And then when putting it all together, being so much more aware of the goodness and the relationships that enrich my life.

  98. 198

Seeing in a new way for me is doing anything and everything that comes to mind without the fear of looking silly to my clients. Sometimes I lay in the sand…other times I climb a wall. Sometimes they looked stunned and end up telling me to be careful as they giggle at me. Then I tell them to wait until they see the results. Other times it’s the creative ideas that pop into my head for a session that I run with like — taking my lighting gear out into a field in the dark and shooting fashion photos with a friend because the idea popped into my head and I wanted to make it happen!

    Linda says:

My new passion for photography is helping me to see in a new way. Granted I’m just starting on this path my new perceptions and interpretation of life is only in its infancy. While driving down familiar roads I will see shapes, textures, and shadows that I’ve just never noticed before. I feel like I’ve had a paradigm shift with my surroundings; when I look at a tree I notice the angle of the branch, the texture of the bark and how the light is playfully peeking through the leaves. Shifting from taking pictures to capturing photos and creating art is helping me see my community, family, and myself in a completely new way. Seeing in a new way means I’m more present in the moment, more aware and ever grateful for the simple beauty all around me.

seeing in a new way…what initally came to mind is how i see myself in a new way after the experiences i have had over the past 2 1/2 years. without diving into a novel length explanation, having premature triplets allowed me the time + space to heal + grow in ways i never allowed myself to do. i am 32 + i just recently found the courage to be able to identify, embrace + pursue my dream. it was through the camera that i was first able to see myself in a new way + with the camera that i hope to help others do the same.
