I really love shooting at around 35-50. I have the 24-70 which I really love but would like that extra wide angle of the 17 would be totally awesome!
I would LOVE this lens. I have a 50mm that I use for most of my portraits, but I would love something with the ability to zoom. Its hard to use the 50mm with the 2-3 yr old age range, which is mostly what I shoot!
I love my 50mm and full frame sensor
* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I do not have very many lenses and feel this will give me more versatility.
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
Newborns!
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Mine for example is shooting portraits at 50mm on a full frame camera.
28mmm, I like to be close!
I shoot dogs and the wide angle makes for amazing photos – especially because they like to get close to me. I’m always backing away and having a 17 lens would be great. I’ve tried a wide angle before and just love it – and since this range is what I mostly shoot in, this lens would be perfect. I also have to shoot a lot of action and sometimes indoors using only natural light, so the 2.8 would be a dream come true!
•Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
Can a photographer ever “need” too many lenses? I think having a multitude of tools can only enhance your work by giving more options to capture moments artistically.
•What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
This lens would be perfect for shooting events, rallies and plays as my church’s photographer-in-residence.
•What is your favorite focal length to shoot? I love an 85mm for portraits and a 70-200mm for weddings.
I currently use all fixed lenses and would love to have a little more flexibility and this lens seems perfect. I would use this lens for family and children portraiture. Currently my favority focal length in my 50 mm…..love it!
I was just looking at this lens, it would be SO much fun to have. I do quite a bit of indoor sessions and this lens would be nice to have when room is an issue. I love taking pictures of Children, Seniors and Families. My favorite focal length is 50 mm also, I just love the bokeh you can get with that.
Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I “need” this lens for the wide angle capabilities! Currently my widest lens is the Tamron 28-75. Would love that 17!
What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
I would use this lens mostly for child and family portraits.
What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
Well lately it’s 85 mm because I just got the 85 1.8 a couple weeks ago.
I need this lens for my photography because, first, I dont have a zoom lens. Second, I do not have a lens that is lower than 50mm and this would be great for those family shots or big group pictures!
I mainly do families and children, so it will be nice to have a zoom lens for the children who like to run free!
My favorite focal length to shoot would definitely be my 50mm, this is my “go to” lens for sure!
Just started to follow MCP on Twitter
Following on Twitter!
I need this lens to expand my lens options! I am kind-of a newbie, and need more options to expand my skills and knowledge. I would use it to take pics of my favorite subjects – children! I love a 50mm.
1. the only lens i currently have that is decent enough to shoot with is my 50mm. this would be a super add-on!
2. i shoot babies, families, weddings, you name it, would love to see what this baby can do.
3. 50mm would be my fave, (and ok only) focal length for shooting.
Just tweeted the giveaway details and info about MCP actions.
WHOA – I need this lens, and i didn’t even know it. I do a lot of low light/natural light photography of food and knitting. I often shoot around 35-50, but my favorite focal length is the one that works best for what I’m shooting.
I’m a fan on facebook!
I just tweeted your give away! @MPPhotog
I need this lens to give me options for creativity in my photography.
I want to shoot portrait or photojournalism with this new lens.
At this point my favorite lens is my 50mm f/1.8 lens.
Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I need this lens for the wide angle capabilities! My current wide angle does not take sharp photos and I use it only when I MUST. (Which was a real bummer at the Forbidden City last week!)
What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
I would use this lens when traveling and for taking photos of my children.
What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
Right now my favorite is my 55-200mm, just because it is fast, very sharp and is the only lens I currently own besides my cheap wide angle. (I’m just starting out!)
• I NEED this lens because all of the lens that I have are cheap glass, because I can not afford to get the expensive (good quality) glass. Also, I currently only own a 75mm- 300mm, a fisheye, an 85mm and a lens baby.
• If I won this lens I would use it for nature photos as well as weddings.
• I love my 75-300, but I need more diversity.
I follow MCP on Facebook.
love my 50mm. I am just starting out and would love to have a greater range of lenses to work with. I think this lens would be perfect for baby photos.
I follow MCP on Twitter. Posting contest info on both twitter and facebook.
1. I would love to incorporate more landscape in my portraits and my current lens feels a little tight.
2. I would love to shoot portraits and weddings, but my favorite subjects are my two little boys!
3. My current favorite is shooting portraits with my 50mm 1.8 on my cropped sensor camera–of course that is my only lens, so maybe I will find a new favorite if I win!
Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
-It would be awesome to have a wide angle zoom lens to add to my bag of tools.
What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
- I photograph a lot of families and children, especially my own. It would be nice to have this lens to allow me some distance with my subjects to capture those candid moments.
What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
- I love my 50mm lens.
Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I’ve got an 11-16mm/f2.8 and a 50mm/f1.8 for fast lenses… the 17-50mm would fill in the gap between the two I have beautifully!
What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
I think cityscapes at night would be absolutely fantastic with this lens. I don’t do many weddings, but I think it would suit that atmosphere really well.
What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
I don’t have a favorite focal length; I do, however, have a favorite aperture… f3.2 seems to allow for fantastic bokeh while keeping what needs to be in focus tack sharp.
Cool! I have a 40D Canon. I love using my 50mm, but in so many instances, I have to get so far back, it doesn’t quite make the shot what I want it. I think this lens would be beneficial for the children shots I take. I’ve been wanting a 20mm or so, but have held back because of the cost.
I currently use the 28-75, but in a lot of settings it back focuses, so the need to get another lens is growing with each shoot. Most of my shoots are babies, children and families. I have a 50mm also, but I think having the range for fast moving children will be a perk. I find I shoot at the wider lengths due to space issues, so having the 17mm would be great!
I retweeted!
I *need* this lens because I only have a 35-80mm 5.6 and a 75-300mm 5.6 lens. I would use the lens to photograph my family, my furbabies, and flowers….those are my favorite things to photograph. I would say 50 is my favorite focal length.

•Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
Love, Love this size and the speed, have a Tamron 75-300, so this would be a GREAT addition!
•What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
Friends and family….8 grandkids and one on the way!
•What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Same as above….”shooting portraits on a full frame camera.”

I love to travel, so I need this lens for the wide angle capabilities while shooting landscapes.
I’m going on an Alaska cruise next month, and want to shoot all of those beautiful glaciers and lovely scenery with this lens.
My favorite focal length is 50 mm. That was my first “good” lens and I learned to work with the fixed focal length because that’s all I used for over a year.
I would love to win this camera, I’m trying to start turning a hobby into a career!
Children and Engagement photos are my favorite to take!
I’m with you, shooting at 50mm is best for me!
1. I need it because I would LOVE to have a lens with a wider angle. Plus, I primarily shoot with a fixed focal length and would like to have some options. I would love to use it for photos of my children and of the city.
I currently use a 35mm f/1.8 the most.
I “need” this lens because I have the Tamron 17-50 and it lives on my camera. I’d LOVE to have it with the VC. I think that’s great that they came out with one with the VC.
I would photograph everything with this lens. I’ve used my other for weddings, portraits and an all around lens. Love it and I think it would be so much better with the VC.
My favorite focal length is 50mm. Just because I love my Canon 50mm lens. It’s another one that I frequently switch out. It just gives such nice bokeh.
I only have the kit lenses for my D80, but I love the 17-55 b/c it’s really versatile when trying to keep up with my kids. I would love this Tamron lens b/c it gives me the same range, just in a better lens. I seem to usually shoot at around the 35mm range. If I won this lens, I would still use it to shoot my kids. I love capturing all the quirkiness kids have to offer.
* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I only have the lens that came with my Nikon d90 and although it is a wonderful lens, I’d love to try a little variation.
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
I have four kids that will be graduating from high school in the next few years and I’d love to get great senior photos for them (need it NOW so I can practice and get good)
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Mine for example is shooting portraits at 50mm on a full frame camera.
I am addicted to zooming to 105mm, the longest my lens will go.
Why do I *need* this lens? Well I LOVE my 70-200 2.8 because of the amazing creaming bokeh that it creates. But I can’t always use it when I want because I am so close to the subjects. It would be perfect for me to use during weddings when I am close to the bride during processionals/recessionals, lining up, etc…
In low light or quick moving subjects, this would be perfect. I love shooting kids. I tend to shoot a lot of shots with the subject looking up at me. This would be so great to have as the focal lengths could very. The wide angle of it makes me giddy just thinking about it!
What type of subjects would I photograph?
PEOPLE!
My favorite focal length to shoot has been about 100 mm with my 2.8. Definitely close ups. Often with the face covering much of the frame. But I think if I had a wide angle with such a great/fast lens, I may change my mind!
I tweeted! http://twitter.com/SaraKingPhotos
Why I need this lens- I do not have a lens that is as wide as the 17. And love that it is a 2.8.
What I would use it for- I love to photography family, children, and couples. It would go to good use for all of those shoots. And we are having a baby… we would use it to photograph our new addition:)
My favorite focal length- I have to agree with you, I love my 50mm and use it more then anything.
* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? It sounds like a great option to have in my bag
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Seniors, children
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? 50mm
Just posted it on facebook!!
I’m a newbie…and have been looking at the canon 16-35 for wide angle…but it’s so expensive. It’s the last lens (for now) that i want to add to my lenses!
I would love it for the artsy wide angle view to capture my subjects in an awesome landscape…stunning…and to do some landscape photography.
I currently love my 70-200 Tamron – with moving children in fields as my subjects…I love shooting kids (and family stuff too!)
i “need” this lens primarily because i don’t have a lot of lens options. i’m a relative newbie and would love to expand my lens collection.
i think this lens would be a great addition for things like school performances etc.
right now i love my 50mm lens. i rarely take it off!
I just got my first DSLR and currently only have the Tamron 28-75. I would love the 17-50 to get some extra wide angles in there. I am currently photographing maternity, newborns, birth, and families. The 17-50 would be fabulous for my beach sessions.
I’m usually shooting around 50-70 with my current lens
Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? My old 17-55mm lens is a DX and can’t really use it since upgrading to full frame.
What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Portraits and hopefully get into some weddings.
What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Mine for example is shooting portraits at 50mm on a full frame camera.
I’m liking the 50mm and 85mm.
•Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I use a Nikon D300 and would love to have this lens for it’s wide angles. Right now I only go to 28MM with my 28-70mm.
•What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Large groups, tight spaces around town and landscapes
•What is your favorite focal length to shoot? somewhere between 50 and 80mm for people and 80-200mm for smaller subjects
Just retweeted!! hope you get tons of post:)

I need this lens because I only have the 50mm and it’s on it’s last legs! lol Plus I just think this lens will help me expand my photography! I would also love to use it for Seniors or really just about anything!
•Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
Right now I don’t have this focal length covered, I really need something that can go wide like this! It would go great with my 35-70!
•What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
Portraits and weddings, especially portraits, it would be great to pull back without having to move back in my short shooting space.
•What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
I stay around 35 a lot of the time, mostly because that’s as wide as my best lens gets, but I love my 50 a lot too!
I like my 18-55mm lens, but I really, really need to have a lower aperture lens so it would be more versatile. I love shooting between 35mm and 50mm.
I love shooting at 50mm with my 1.8 but really need to get wider and keep the aperture low and don’t have that capability with that lens. My two favorite subjects are my kids (#1) and random objects that I can isolate and using DOF blur the rest of the image
. I think I “need” this lens because my kids will only be kids for a short time and I would love to be able to capture better pictures of them all!

I need this lens for group shots! I currently have the 70-300 and the 50mm which really don’t cut it for large group weddings which is what I will use this lens for, as well as portraits. My favorite focal length to shoot as is usually between the 30-50 range.
I am so excited about this giveaway! My kit lens is just not giving me the flexibility I need in low and natural lighting situations and with group shots. I’ve been eyeing wide-angle lenses but they’re not in my budget right now. I will be using this for group photos, portraiture and some action shots where my 70-200 is just too long. I haven’t yet settled on a favorite focal length as I’m still developing a shooting style.
Thanks Jodi!

1. Oh I NEED this lens. The only “wider” lens I have is my kit lens, which because of the aperture (not wide enough, and variable) doesn’t work well for me. I woud LOVE LOVE LOVE this lens!!
2. I’d love it for kids and families, and sometimes I’d just love to go a little wider. Especially in a tighter space
3. I’ve usually loved shooting between 50 and 75mm with my Tamron (I love the bokeh) on my 40D, but I want to shoot wider at times with that lower aperture!!

•Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
As I just purchased my first DSLR recently, I am severely limited with my kit lens. Would love to have the ability for some wider angles in my shots.
•What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
I live in New Orleans, and this beautiful city is what I spend most of my time shooting (besides my children, of course.
•What is your favorite focal length to shoot? So far, all I’ve got is my kit lens.

I need this lens because there are so many fleeting moments I’m missing out on while documenting the first year of my daughter’s life. I don’t have a fixed aperture zoom, and have come across the limitations of having just a prime 50mm. I mostly want to document her life, as well as daily life for all of us.
Right now my favorite lens combo is a 50mm on a full framed Nikon for portraits and candid shooting.
I need this lens because I can never have too many. I would use it for portraits and landscapes. For portraits, my fav focal length is 50mm.
I added the link to the bottom of my new blog…christinatellphotography.blogspot.com
I “need” this lens simply because you can never have enough lens!! In reality I would love this lens for landscapes and portraits. My all time favorite lens would be the 50 mm, I use it 90% of the time!

I think I need this lens because I am just starting out and all I have so far is the kit lens and my 50mm and I wont be able to afford any new glass for a long while.
I love shooting children out in nature and sometimes a good zoom would come in handy.
My Favorite focal length for now is my 50mm. Its the best piece of glass I have right now and I’m loving what it does for me.

I got a d5000 for Christmas so I have the 18-55mm that came in the kit and a 50mm f/1.8. I “need” this to develop my photography skills and get comfortable with different lenses. The next lens on my wish list is a wide angle lens to take on a few vacations this summer so this would be perfect! I love my 50mm f/1.8 because it picks up so much detail from faces and blurs the background perfectly.
I was already a fan on facebook, but i just shared this blog post with facebook!

* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I need this lens because I’m just getting my photography business off the ground, but have little money for new lenses because of our Ethiopian adoption. Adoption is amazing, but also amazingly expensive!
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
Portraits and lifestyle shots for my photog business, but also travel photography when we’re in Ethiopia (local people, landscapes, etc). I REALLY want to have a bunch of good pictures when we come home so that our new son will have a photographic memory of the country of his birth.
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
I’m digging my 35mm, mainly because it’s the best lens that I own at the moment. =)

This would lens would be great for photographing children, families and events.
I love my 50 mm for portraits.

* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? All of my current lenses are 55mm or more. The 17 – 50 mm would be amazing!
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Our first baby, Miss Lillian Gabrielle, who will grace this earth on June 19th! And hopefully, many more babies to come as my wedding clients move along their life path and we find ourselves blessed with another beautiful life.
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? I really like my 55-85mm for portraits and over all general photography, looking to upgrade that one soon!
Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? The only portrait lens I currently have is a 50mm 1.8. It is a fabulous lens except that there are often times when it’s not wide enough – especially for indoor home shoots.
What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Newborns, Indoor home family, artsy wide shots.
What is your favorite focal length to shoot? 50mm at the moment since that’s my only portrait lens
1 – I recently switched from my Pentax to a Canon 5D Mark II, but could only afford one lens, so I went with a 50mm. I’m dying to get a few more lenses for the arsenal and would love something with a wider angle!
2 – I currently shoot mostly actor headshots, so my 50mm is great. However, I would like to more children and family portraits, incorporating some landscapes in them.
3 – I’m with you. I like the 50mm lens for portraits, which is why it’s the only one I have for the Canon so far!
I am a fan on facebook.
