Like everyone else, I would love this lens!
Photography is one thing I love doing! In the past year I’ve never been so excited to learn photography and am always taking pictures whenever I can. Being a stay at home mom for the past five years I never ever thought I would love this hobby!! Its truely become something I’m so passionate about and my camera is always with me whenever I go.
With my kids now in school I have more free time to focus on photography. I’ve been trying to find a new lens for my camera but having a hard time finding one in my budget. This one would be perfect and just what I’m looking for. I would love a wide angle lens!! And the 2.8 focal length.
My favorite subjects to take photos of is my kids, doing portraits, candids and shots of them in their sporting events. I also love old homes and old buildings so this would be a great lens to capture some great photos of old houses.
My dream is to one day in the near future do some side work with photography for friends, neighbors, anyone. I’d love to have a hobby/job that I love doing.
Thank you for doing such a great contest and giving us all a chance to win this great lens!!
* The need for this lens comes from being a prime girl and ready to tackle the zoom. I’d love not to have to stand in another state to get my full body shots.
* I’ll mainly use the lens for people. I <3 little kids and hs seniors the best!
* My favorite to shoot at is 85mm, except for the full body shots. I love the up close and personal feel of it!
Thanks Jodi!!!
1 – I would LOVE this lens! I need it because I currently don’t have a lens with this aperture range or that has the extra wide angle offered… it would be a great lens to use during my newborn shoots. I’m rather short and with this I wouldn’t have to climb a latter to shoot straight down on my subject.
2 – This would be great to use with newborns/babies
3 – 50mm portraits at f/4.6 is what tend to stick with… it’s my comfort zone.
I shared this on Facebook! woohoo!!
I’m a facebook fan!
I shared it on my facebook page.

Points?
I am following you on facebook now.
* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? My widest lens right now is 75mm and would really like to do more landscape photography.
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Landscape…Lake Michigan is in my back yard, lighthouses, waves crashing, beach grass waving…
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Mine for example is shooting portraits at 50mm on a full frame camera. Right now I’m usually at 200mm shooting sports.

* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I have wanted to do photography for a living for fifteen years now. When people say they start on a shoestring, they usually add a comment like, “So with just a thousand dollars…” Shoestring for me means just that, and with three kids it has taken me up until a year ago to afford my first DSLR. (Nikon D60) Not knowing that kit lenses are less than cool, I bought the kit. Since then, I know how badly I need a wide lens to fully capture my vision as a pro photographer. I have a class and hours of study under my belt and KNOW that a great lens is the only thing between me and my life’s dream…
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph
with this lens?
I want to do primarily children and families, but also desire to venture into my own fine art one day.
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Mine for example is shooting portraits at 50mm on a full frame camera.
given my kit lens (18-55), I love the widest setting, but I long to go wider. I hope to get a FF camera more quickly than this last one, but for now, haven’t had had the experience
.
I need this lens because of its versatility and speed- and I can’t afford to buy one! I would use it in infant and children’s portraits, but also for wider shots like outdoor family shots. My favorite focal length- probably 50mm.
•Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I only have 1 lens and need a backup!
•What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
children and babies
•What is your favorite focal length to shoot? 50mm
I became a fan on Facebook
1. This was the next lens on my list to buy…not sure if I “need” it, but it sure would be fun!
2. I take picturs of my kids and their activities
3. Fave focal length….somewhere between 25-50 mm.
Thanks for this fun contest! I LOVE my new 28-75 mm Tamron lens so I’m excited to try their other lens too!
This lens was next on my “to buy” list. Not sure if I “need” it, but it sure would be fun! I mostly take pictures of my kids and their activities and a wider angle lens would be great! My fave focal lenth is 25-50 mm – depends on what I’m taking pictures of, I guess. Thanks!
1. I am filming weddings and just switched to DSLR. Got myself 70-200 IS but also need the wide angle 17-50 for a steadicam and wide shots.
2. I want to film gliding shots on a camera stabilize + I have booked a St. Lucia wedding so I want to take wide shots of the gorgeous environment.
3. My favorite focal length is 135mm
Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? Flexibility to get wider shots
What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Indoor events
What is your favorite focal length to shoot? 50mm on D700
This lens would be great for taking pictures at my grand babies birthday partiesand other occasions. Seems like the low light situation always gets me. I like to turn those shots into portraits and the excellent bokeh that this lens produces would be just the trick to help me accomplish that. I like to “sneak” shots when they are not expecting it. I currently us a 18/200 zoom but the f-stop is not as small so I have difficult time in low light. Thanks for having this give away. Thanks for always helping others become better at what they do!
I’ve been looking for a wider lens than the 24mm that I currently use. I love portrait and landscape photography and it will be helpful in both areas. I currently shoot throughout the entire focal length of my lenses…. I love having the versatility of a zoom. This lens would allow me to get the wider angles that I don’t currently have.
It seems most of the shooting I do is of little ones, always on the run and my fixed lens, well they keep me running. And it’s hard to focus while you are running. I’ve wanted this lens for a long time and it would make me extremely happy to win. I mostly shoot with my 50mm or 100mm fixed focal length and I’m changing lenses a lot.
I love MCP and I follow you on twitter and love your blog. I love your actions too.
MCP rocks. Rock my world with a new lens.
I follow your tweets on Twitter. Thanks Jodi and Tamron for the opportunity!
I currently would LOVE to have a lens with a wider focal length & a zoom lens. I use my 35mm and 50mm primes on my camera. While I love my primes, they can be limiting when shooting kids on the go. I love to pictures of my 3 kids doing everyday things, as well as doing portrait sessions with them. My favorite focal length is 50mm outside, or 35mm indoors on my Nikon D90.
I signed up to follow you on Twitter. Thanks for a great contest.
Just became a fan on Facebook.
HI!
I would love this lens for several reasons! I used it before, I rented it and loved my images! my favorite lens at the moment is 50mm 1.8!! It’s great!
I mainly shoot family portraits and love it!
I also follow you on TWITTER and I am a fan on FACEBOOK
Thanks!
FACEBOOK FAN
I need this lens because of the image stabilization! I don’t own a lens with this feature and it would come in handy when I am chasing a two year old! I would use this lens to photograph babies, children and families…maybe some awesome nature shots too. My favorite focal length is 50mm.
I NEED this lens to help me with my photography of mainly my baby grandsons! I shoot a lot in low light…when they’re crawling around in the house…. I probably shoot mainly at 50 mm… I’m still learning since purchasing my Nikon D90…
•Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
Right now I only own two lenses, the kit lens and my 50mm. I recently started really promoting my portrait photography business and want to have enough flexibility with my equipment to do a great job. This sounds like a wonderful lens that can give me that kind of flexibility, especially since I shoot on location.
•What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
For my personal use, portraits of my family and nature shots. For my business, mostly children.
•What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Mine for example is shooting portraits at 50mm on a full frame camera.
Mine is currently 50mm. I’ve only had my 50mm prime lens for about 4 months.
I shoot anything at the moment — am new to photography but am so inspired by some of the best children’s photographers today. Just bought a Nikon D700 and have one (count it!) one lens, 85 1.8. Would be so grateful to have more variety as I learn.
I need this lens to complete my range. I have the 50mm and above but it limits me in some of my shots. I love the 50mm it is my usual go to lens like many others I cant do without it.
I need this for the sports wide shots at the Triathlon starts and the swimming also for the group school team shots
* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
Well, I shoot with prime lenses and I would like to branch out a bit.
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? HS seniors, children and boudoir!
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Well, mine is the 50mm on a full frame as well. It is what I’m used to!
This is definitely a must-have lens for my type of photography. The wide 17mm combined with the fast f/2.8 aperture makes it ideal for my landscape photography and low-light shooting. I would love this lens for capturing the beauty of the western Canada wilderness and also for candid portraiture. My favorite focal length is between 17 and 24mm for the exaggerated near-far relationship.
* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I’m lacking this type of wide lens and would love it.
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? people, groups, landscape
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? 50mm but sometimes with a crop sensor it’s too tight indoors.
As someone that wants badly to expand into real estate photography, this focal length and quality of elements would allow me to take the optimum perspective of a room and retain brilliant contrast.
As mentioned above, it may not be the “sexiest” subject, but I want to make an impact on my local real estate market by creating images of home that more accurately reflect the home.
This lens is perfect because most of the focal length I would be working with would be between 17 to 35mm.
I’ve had a link to mcp on my blog for a long time now… http://partoflifephoto.wordpress.com/
1. I need this lense to photograph children and adult portraits. I have a Nikon D80 which doesn’t allow for many low light situation. And I take most of my photos outside. The extra shutters would be so helpful. I unfortumately can’t afford a better camera or any others lenses so winning this would help so much!
2.I am wanting to photograph children and adult portraits with this lense. I photograph mostly very fast children so a non-fixed lense would be so helpful to catch a fast child on the fly!
3.My favorite focal length is 50mm of a full frame camera. I love close ups of children…Priceless. So this lense would be amazing to have!
This lens would be great for tighter spaces that I sometimes find myself in. Especially in clients homes that are smaller rooms the wide angle would be great! I mainly shoot children so the option of a quick change to wide angle would really work well. My current favorite focal length is 50 mm but it is very close race with 85 mm.
I need this lens to enable me to shoot indoors (my parents have an antique, folk art, gift store) in rather poor lighting. The light weight will be a bonus as well, since I’ve got severely damaged neck disks, vertebrae themselves, major nerve damage in both arms, and end up with incredible pain from hand holding anything heavier. I’ll be photographing folk artists doing live demonstrations at the store, and artificial lighting just doesn’t “work” with old fashioned folk art! My favorite focal length is around 17mm, to enable full-body low light portraits of working folk artists.
1. Would like that lens because I do portrait photos but sometimes need a wide angle lens for groups. 2. I want to photograph outdoors, portraits and groups. 3. Favorite focal length is 50mm portraits on a full frame Cannon 5D, Mark II.
Why do I need it? To disprove my theory that I am incapable of winning.
No, really, the last while I’ve been seeing so many scenes that I know I can’t capture with the lenses I currently own. I’d love to add a wide angle to my bag, especially to capture street scenes. Not sure about my favorite focal length, but it might be around 200mm.
I would love to win this lens! I am new photographer and everything I hear about the “nifty fifty” would just add to my learning experience.
1) I would use this lens to enhance my learning. It would add to my learning with regard to macro photography, depth of field, and creating a bokeh effect in my up close nature photos.
2) My interest lies in up close nature photography, birds and people scenes tied to a landscape.
3) Because I try to capture birds in flight, right now my favorite focal length is 300mm. I enjoy using the zoom lens.
Following you on twitter!!

I tweeted!
I added you to my blog!
Why I need the lens honestly I can’t afford one and would love to have it….
I would photograph people and nature….
Favorite Length would be 50mm….
Became a fan on Facebook….
I “need” this lens because of it’s fast aperture it could be used in low light situations. I enjoy shooting street scenes and landscapes and my favorite focal length is probably 12mm (18mm with crop factor), due to the dramatic images it produces with such a wide view.
SOmetimes Getting older sucks — but I still can see things close up!!
I love to do nature and pet portraits and enjoy learning more semi macro techniques.Sharing the depths of my subjects is why I need this great lens. Currently,I shoot extremes with the new 18-270. Need Yes Want YES!
Hey! Just added your link to my blog
Happy to do it! I love your site!!
* The better question is why DON’T I need this lens? I need it because my son is stealth when it comes to running toward the camera. I need it because I am embarking on a new journey to make my passion my career. I need it because I am beyond broke and will never be able to buy the lens for myself. I need it because I am documenting the history of our family for future generations. I just NEED it!
* I shoot everything, but I would use this for my photojournalistic endeavors – capturing life as it unfolds.
* I’ve been playing around a lot with 85mm, but was trained to use 50mm (can’t be too far away and still be intimately involved in the shot). I shoot to fill the frame – edge to edge as was once done in the darkroom.
I’m already a fan on FaceBook
link is on the blog
* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I do a lot of indoor shooting and would love to have a lens faster
than my kit lens for wide angle shots sometimes I just don’t have
enough room to use my 50 1.8.
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with
this lens?
I’d mainly use this lens for indoor shots of my children, and for
portraits.
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
Currently my favorite focal length is at 50mm since it’s my fastest
lens right now(50mm f/1.8). I love how the background is blurred and
I don’t have to use a flash most of the time.

•Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I actually like lenses from 3rd party manufacturers and proving to other photographers that they dont need to be stuck with the more costly manufacturers lenses. I show them every day with my monster prints (as large as 40″ x 60″) and enjoy pushing things to the limit.
•What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
Almost always, landscape work. (gallery link in my name/signature)
•What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Mine for example is shooting portraits at 50mm on a full frame camera.
Landscape work requires (for me) a zoom with high quality across its entire range. Cropping in the field is very important as I do print very large, and need to maximize every megapixel I can.
Some examples of my prints with 3rd party lenses are embedded.
Feel free to browse my gallery to see other examples

This lens will assist me in the creation of my art. I usually capture images from the natural world, and I usually shoot 18-55 mm lens. but not always. Support the Arts by supporting Artists!
I do a lot of traveling and it would be an ideal lens for landscape. I can not buy a nice on since I am on a fixed income.
1. This lens would help me broaden my learning curve in the photography business, I would be able to instead of zoom with my feet try out the options of zooming with a lens and be able to capture the kids easier!
2. I do portrait photography and love to focus my time on kids.
3. I use only a 50mm prime lens so thats all I know!
This lens would be a great addition for my camera as most lens I have are longer focal length and slower. I would use this lens for landscape, particularly in lower light situations.
I like shooting at a lower focal length to get as much view into the frame as possible. I would like to shoot in the 17-28mm range.
I would like to have the flexibility this type of lens offers. I would be able to shoot both close-up of friends and landscapes.
A lens that can do all in one and give us a lighter load ? A dream come TRUE!
The Tamron would be a perfect fit for my photographic needs of shooting events, weddings, and even in the studio.
Being able to utilize the wide aperture and Vibration Control for available light photography and good depth of field control would be invaluable.
The 50mm end is about my favorite focal length for people, the wide angle would see plenty of use in crowds, settings, interior shots and even landscapes when out-and-about.
1) Need is an interesting word…the most important reason that I want this lens is simple, I want to get the whole picture. The ability to go down to 17mm, would greatly widen my field of view. I currently own 4 lenses. Two are Tamron and the other 2 are Nikon. None of which however go down to 17mm, my 28mm-300mm Tamron which is my favorite lens to use. Generally it is almost always at 28mm, or zoomed almost all the way in. I have 5 children and getting the whole group in action into a single shot is almost impossible now.
2) My subjects are generally my family, but God how I love shooting the sunsets here in Centeral Texas.
3) Favorite focal length…generally as I said earlier 28mm, but I love to swap over to the 50mm and capture those portraits of the children. Our walls are covered by them, both from my Nikon D80 and my Nikon F5 that I picked up about 10 years ago.
Said winner would be picked on the 18th (My entry was to late) but don’t see who won.

I have no fast glass, so I always need a flash or outside light.
I need this for indoor photography
I shoot mostly wide and macro, so this would be very handy.
* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I “need” this lens to provide more flexibility in capturing group shots.
* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Groups of people in indoor settings mostly.
* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? 55mm Mine for example is shooting portraits at 50mm on a full frame camera.
•Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I would use it as a walk around lens, the only 1 I need.
•What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
nature, wildlife, landscapes.
•What is your favorite focal length to shoot? about 50mm
* I recently tested this lens at my local camera store and fell in love with it! It would be great for portrait work and that is the business I am currently trying to get in.
* My main subject would be babies, followed by happy couples, expectant mothers, toddlers and pets! I want to capture all the expressions that help define their personalities!
* My favorite lens is a 105mm, but I just purchased a new 50mm which I’m excited to use. I also got the new Tamron 18-270 which I can’t wait to test out!
Like you facebook!
Following you on Twitter!
I need this lens to accurately capture my subject sharply, in focus, and without chromatic abberation. It’s hard to do that with the kit lens – the old one…
I’m an architectural student – no doubt money is tight – so I like to capture space, experience and lighting. They say photography is the closest thing to architecture, and this will certainly help.
My favorite focal length is 12mm desert landscapes and 35mm prime walk-around.
I wish I had a decent and fast zoom
Thanks for the opportunity to win this lens. Honestly, if I should be lucky enough to win, it will give me the nudge I need to buy that “level” up camera I’ve been wanting for ages. You are already a FB friend but I did add you as a Twitter follow. I posted the link to the contest on Facebook and have just added your banner to my blog. Thanks again!
1. I take mostly pictures of bands at shows and I am hobbled by working at f3. Sadly I’m a student and activist and I can’t afford one of Tamron’s amazing f2.8 lenses to take me to the next level.
2. I’m dying to get my hands on a faster lens to empower me to work better in low light especially at concerts and shows. I also plan on using it to work on a large photo essay showing the many faces of my hometown of Van Nuys CA.
3. I favor longer focal lengths on my crop sensor dslr, either the longer focal lengths of a normal wide to telephoto zoom like my 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens or the long end of my 50-250mm f4-5.6. While I love candid shots of people and animals that the 50-250mm can give me on the street at 250mm I love the flexibility of the 18-55mm even though I love the longer length. The downside is it’s hard to take great pictures on the street at 55mm f5.6. I would LOVE to be able to capture scenes of the streets at 50mm f2.8.
This lens would benefit my photography in that the aperture can be set so that low light pictures are far easier to produce, even while a a further focal length. With this lens I would mainly be photographing moving subjects on missions trips during the following summer. My Favorite focal length is around 28mm with a full frame camera, where I feel bokeh in the background of my subjects dramatically shows the emotions be exhibited by my subject.
This would be an awesome lens for indoor closeup shooting. my current lens is too long for most indoor photography.
I have a new (well 1yr old) niece and nephew who are always on the move. Don’t even try to get them to keep still anymore. This lens would be so perfect for these occasions…
I also do landscapes at times, and my favorite focal length is turning out to be a 50mm on a crop sensor, and using stitching software to complete the panorama image! surprised me anyways. I never would have guessed that to be a useful length for landscape, but you’re using a tripod, you have a lot of time to set up and shoot, and the subject stays in one place.
Generally my favorite form of shooting is macro but that was on my 5mp camera phone so it didn’t really have a focal length. I just bought a Kiss 550d to get both video and shots of vineyards, grapes, wine, people, ect… for my upstart wine blog/business. I would love to have this for portraits of the wine makers I will be interviewing.
Definitely I would love to win this Tamron 17-50 2.8 aperture
lens for night Photographing, I have allways seen a lot of night
shot and just could not get that picture perfect Because I’am
using Nikon 18-105mm & 70-300mm here is a sample.And with
Tamron’s VC anti-shake system next time a round it will be a
shure it thank you very much
I would really like to have a zoom lens with a nice fast aperture like f/2.8 for low-light conditions.
Using 5DmII and 7D more and more for video work…. would be eager to see what the 17-50 would add to our production process.
I love to shoot portraits of people and animals and a zoom would help me to cover a wider range of subjects and help me expand my subjests. I shoot mostly at 100mm.
Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? Because it looks very cool.
What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Grandchildren
What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Mine for example is shooting portraits at 50mm on a full frame camera. Chasing kids,so I need lots of range.
1. I “need” the lens to capture the animals too far away to let me approach due to my non-cat-like reflexes.
2. You would think my main subjects were animals but they are actually usually families with kids…wait…never mind.
3. This one is hard, for portraits I like a 50-70 range but I love the way 200 distorts the background.
Oh…please, please pick me!
Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?
What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
{sorry, accidentally hit enter before answering the questions}
I do not have a wide-angle lens and this would help me be more versatile.
Fast-moving toddlers!
Focal length? As close as I can get, but sometimes my camera doesn’t allow it.
I need this lens because I do not have a wide angle lens.
I would like to start taking more portrait and landscape photos and this lens would help out with that.
I love shooting sports shots of my son at 200mm.
I work with a guy that could use this lens! he has an incredible eye an I want to nurture it as much as possible. He shoots a lot of macro and I would like to turn him onto the sweeping vista.
I need this lens to shoot more sports pics of the kids during their games & my husband at military events. I need to get in close & this seems like such a perfect versatile lens.
I would use it for event photography & who knows what else! Probably everything!
I love my 50mm prime right now! Wish it had a zoom.
I am a FB fan!
I get the daily updates & love them!
{1} I need this lense as the lense I have does not do well for shooting in low light & this lense has been recommended by a few photog friends.
{2} I love shooting at 50 mm.
{3} I will be shooting my daughter, newborn babies and my maternity clients.
I hope I win, ,as I have never won anything but good luck to everyone that entered.
1. I am new at photography and I do not have a wide angle lens. Having the Tamron 17-50 would be great to use.
2. Definitely indoor close up, Parties, weddings, family pictures.
3. I am using a 70-300 for family sporting events.
I need a better up close lens for when I shoot my son in the marching band. I like shooting with my 18 – 270 because I like the wide angle aspect as well as the zoom.
I’d love this lens because currently my only lens is 28-135 zoom with max f 4. I’d love the wider aperture and wider lens range for travel pictures as well as newborn photos which I shoot maily in available light. I find myself shooting at 50mm a lot.
I need this lens to photograph some of the worlds rarest and most endangered birds during capture. I regularly have them in the hand but as a biologist I dont have the funds for good lens. This lens would allow us to show why losing the tropical rain forests will be devastating.
My favorite shooting lens is 45-50.
Howdy
What is your opinion of the Nikon COOLPIX S8100?
My personal camera recently broke, and I need to know if anyone believes this would be a nice one. In case you have a better camera thought in mind inform me, many thanks.
I would LOVE this lens!! I need a great zoom lens to shoot families!
