I’m lacking in the business side of things. Pricing, marketing, etc… Plus I need to learn studio lighting.

The aspect I feel is lacking is how to market myself to clients successfully and how to not get caught up in fads.
portrait lighting – both natural and flash.
I would really love to get comfortable shooting in manual. I get great results when I do it but I’m scared to use it when I’ve got more than one subject or a really fast-moving subject. I’d like to get the confidence/know-how to use it all the time!
I am just getting started. I need more info on marketing and pricing.
for me it would be the editing process and using actions…I would love to have a better understanding of that…thanks for the chance to win

Working on the business side of things, getting everything in order with all our marketing materials so they are all branded. Then how to bring the clients in. Went to a great workshop from PPA this week so I am hoping that with the info/inspiration from that and the topics on this blog I can make it happen. Thanks for such a helpful and useful blog.

for me the thing i feel like i am lacking in right now during my first year in business is ” dealing with clients” from a business point a view ie: sales to directing them during a shoot.
also i haven’t really quite nailed down a awesome work flow and could use help putting the polish on that as well.
thank you for such a great contest! I really hope i win this one!
I really feel that I lack training in the business side of things!
What aspect of your photography training do you feel is lacking? I feel like I still have SO MUCH to learn!! I want to learn and understand more about lighting and aperture…I read and I feel like it’s a foriegn language I’m trying to understand. I know one day it will just click and I’ll get it and it will become second nature, but I need to emmerse myself in more study.

What a nice couple of weeks of blog post you have going on, thank you! The area I’m lacking the most in is trying to find the light….or more exactly how to utilize the light I’m working with at any given time in a creative way! Lot’s of times things go wonky and I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Thanks again for the wonderful blog posts!
I am lacking so much because I am just learning. But, I think I need to work with someone instead of just trying to figure things out from reading. An online workshop would be awesome!
I believe I am most lacking in the business side. I was a graphic design major in college, and my minor concentration was in black & white photography (35mm & darkroom), which only involved 2 classes. So I have some knowledge, but could still use more (especially in the DSLR form). Also I am JUST starting to get my business started (very thankful for your new posts on your blog!!!!); I also just need a boost of confidence in my talent…guess I can’t win that with this contest!! hehehe

I would say I need the most help on using lighting and special lighting situations. I do not feel I’ve mastered how to make lighting work wonders for my photos.

Taxes. It’s one big confusing mess for me!
I don’t feel confident enough yet to run my camera in manual. I feel like I am going to screw something up.

Being new to the digital world, I have hung tight to film for years, the biggest obstacle I have is all the technology knowledge needed to survive and thrive from the camera operation to creating a customer friendly website.
I would love to learn to pose people to get the great natural shots that I see from so many photographers.

I’m lacking in being consistent in getting good shots, as well as having models/subjects to practice techniques I am learning.

Lighting and how to take photos of toddles…they are quick!
working with ocf is my weakest point right now, I think. It’s something I’m working to get better at though.
Currently, I am trying to figure out and master getting tack sharp focus. I know…it is fundamental, but it is something that I want to master IN CAMERA.
That’s an easy one for me…I am really struggling to find “my style”… I hear photographers say all the time, “You’ve really got to define your style” and I’m just lost. I feel pretty good about my abilities handling the camera, but I’m overwhelmed with all the choices I have in post-processing, which is where I think many photogs develop their “look”. Maybe I’m wrong about that, but I have noticed that post-processing is a pretty big part of developing one’s style and I’m just overwhelmed with the choices I have in PS!! And, I’m not always entirely sure which direction I want to go with my pictures!!

I need to learn more about how to best work with different lighting situations, and how to direct people when posing.
The aspect most lacking is how to run/market my photography business.
Editing is definitely my weak point.

I could use more work on composition as well as post processing
I lack formal training. I am just starting out and many friends have advised me to consider photography as a career however, I am afraid to take the leap!
Definetely the business side of thngs!
I feel Im lacking in a few areas of photography but the most important areas right now for me are behind the technical aspect (White balance and exposure) I have the basics down but I still feel I need to perfect it. I would also love the opportunity to get some training on perfecting my editing within Photoshop.
I need to work on lighting and the biz side of professional photography.
I am lacking in the business and marketing side of photography. I feel like my portrait skills are getting better, but lack the tools to properly market.
Directing subjects is definitely awkward for me at times.. and I could definitely use some tips on lighting!
I would say I need the most help with lighting.
Posing! It’s easy when you have someone who is natural in front of the camera, but I have a rough time with people who are uncomfortable with getting their picture taken.
Shooting in manual! Just started doing it in the last month. I love it, but would love more tips!

I feel that I am lacking in posing. That is the hardest for me.
Other than time (doing this with a full-time job on the side is TOUGH!), I really wish I understood the basics of exposure. I feel like I have a decent eye for color, angle, etc. What I really lack are clear, bright, well-lit photos that don’t require a lot of editing. I’m reading Understanding Exposure by Brian Peterson and it’s helping SO MUCH, but I’m still behind on that.
My training in lighting, particularly using flash equipment is lacking. I’d especially like more training on using fill flash and reflectors in outdoor settings.

I really need to work on my confidence during a photo shoot. I tend to not be sure of myself when directing the person I am shooting.
Hmm, I think probably my interaction with clients during the shoot.
I added your MCP banner to my blog. (robinnicholsphotography.blogspot.com

Working with clients. Photographer/client working relationship, especially during a shoot.
I would love to learn more about posing and the business side of things. I almost feel like photography is 40% & the business side is 60% of running a successful photography studio.

With just starting up my business, I feel like what I lack the most is the business aspect. The money side of things is always tricky especially when in a small town market.

I seem to be regressing in exposure. I could definitely use some help with that! Thanks!!!
directing without directing those that I’m photographing. I want it to feel very natural, and not posed…
and most importantly, how to get the confidence so I’m not a nervous reck before each and every shoot!
I could use a firmer understanding of lighting.
Artificial lighting!
Anything related to light — flash, studio lights, and using reflectors
Hey
Umm…I think the most important thing that is missing is DOING things. I am reading and reading and reading but I am taking pretty less pictures…
What aspect of your photography training do you feel is lacking?
I feel that I lack experience right now. I am shy about offering to take pictures for people who may not even want them to begin with. I have kind of made myself stick to taking photos of my own children. I would love to be able to say that I have education/training when offering to take photos for others. Thanks so much for the contest opportunity!
