Photoshop on your mobile device? If you are interested, read on…
Picture This: You want to edit photos on the go using Photoshop. And you want to travel light. You have your iPad or iPhone with you. What do you do? Sure, you could use one of hundreds of light photo editing apps in the “App Store.” If you want to edit the photos that reside on your iPad or iPhone, at least for now, you will need to settle for using apps. Even Adobe has a “Photoshop App” which is NOTHING like the real thing. The problem is that you cannot install “real” Photoshop software on these portable Apple machines.
So now for the “secret.” How can you use the full Photoshop and edit on images on your desktop computer at home or in the office, right from your iPad or iPhone? You just need your iPad or iPhone and the Log Me In Ignition app, or other desktop remote access app. I use Log Me In Ignition which costs $29.99. I love it as I can access my desktop anytime. Seriously! I can check email, move around files, and do work on my Mac Pro, right from my smaller Apple devices.
You can even work on Photoshop, use actions, masking, and more while you remotely control your desktop that has Photoshop installed. Remember the catch, your photos need to be on your computer not on the iPad or iPhone. If you have lots of editing to do, you may want to wait until you’re at the computer.

Ironic that the video wont play on an ipad. Here’s my question about this though. Can I upload from images I import using the card reader? And when I’m done, can I save it to the iPad library?
Very ironic. Until Apple gives in to flash, or until Adobe decides to go another route, this will be an issue… If I understand your question, I assume you need to sync to get images from iPad to computer and back. But you may also be able to use an app like dropbox to move them from computer to ipad or back. I have not tried to say for sure.
Your iPad in this example is just acting as a dumb terminal using logmein. This requires your desktop to be left on, while you’re away.
oh great, now I want one even more! 🙂
Brendan – yes – your desktop would be left on. This video is 1/2 joke in that I am not sure editing on an iPad is realistic. But more to show that anything is possible.I do use it in this way to check email or get to files when needed if not at home. I love it!
I tried Dropbox after your reccomendation, and it does work great! No more having to sync to get my pictures on my iPad! Which is GREAT for me because my PC with windows 7 does not like to sync! Thank you! Thank you! I am going to have to try this one too!
Photoshop on an iPhone!! wow! what a awesome post! Thanks a lot for sharing…
Does your computer have to be a mac or does this work on a pc?
I believe log me in ignition works on many platforms including PC and Mac.
so I CAN get actions from mcp on my laptop and sync my ipad to it when away and use the mcp actions?
No – you would need to connect to your desktop to use our actions and presets as they do not work in the apps available.
So this ignition allows you to connect to your desktop and use the actions that are downloaded to the desk top (but you can use your ipad from anywhere to access your desktop and it’s programs, applications, ect….(not great with computers. Want to get some of the mcp actions but want to find a way to use them via my ipad when on the go)
Log Me In Ignition allows you to connect to your desktop. Then you can use your photoshop or lightroom, etc – on your desktop. If you need to do detailed work, I would not recommend that though. I personally usually edit a few using a random app on my iPad and when I get home edit in Photoshop. I like the more in depth control.
I just received an Ipad 3 yesterday. I’m wondering if there’s a way to use it instead of my laptop in processing photos. Normally I shoot in RAW format, load photos on to my computer and save them on an external hard drive (or portable HD when traveling) and work on them off the HD. I use CS5 and run them through Raw converter to edit them and then save them to a JPG file on the HD. Is there a way to do this using CS5 on the Ipad?
Jodi,I am considering an iPad instead of a laptop and my use of Photoshop is tipping me towards getting a laptop. If I went with the iPad, and I uploaded the photos from my iPad to my dropbox which would be accessible from both iPad (as I’m traveling) and my iMac (at home), would I be able to edit my photos through theLog Me In Ignition app on my iMac?Thanks!
