Memorial Day Picture Share ~ Photos of Patriotism

In both honor and memory of those who fight for our freedom and protect our country, I asked those on my Facebook Page to share images for Memorial Day. Here are some of the hundreds I received over the past week. Thank you for celebrating and sharing with us. As you look through these images, you can only imagine the stories that go with them.

“This guy’s Momma picked up his Daddy at the airport after he arrived home from serving his second deployment in Iraq, then they drove straight to the hospital and he was born the next day.  Thanks for sharing these patriotic images! God bless the USA and all those who serve and protect and their families who sacrifice!”

“I saw this flag in a very old cemetery near my house and thought it was so profound because obviously whoever placed it there wanted their loved one to have a grand flag marking their grave…not just a tiny hand-held one like you see waving at parades. I thought it was special that the person even tied it to the tree so that it would mark the grave-site.  I ride by there everyday and would have loved to catch one of the wind blowing through the flag but the area is surrounded by trees and I’ve never even seen it out of this position its in against the tree. Happy Memorial Day!”

It means the world to me that you showed my picture of Claudia waving the flag. She is an outstanding little girl. She’s only been here 18 months and could tell you that George Washington was our 1st President.

I came across these photos in a search of Memorial Day to see what my local area was doing in the next month – these beautiful photos are what I found. I found these at 5:15 in the morning and with a heavy heart sat and cried. Many people don’t know the cruel reality of war – my family does. I listened to my mother on August 21 2010 that my 19 year old brother, Nathaniel J.A Schultz was KIA in Afghanistan. I buried my baby brother a week later. There are people who do not appreciate the country that my brother died for. The photos in the website were outstanding and took my breath away. My brother, still a child in my eyes, never experienced having children but instead helped me raise me two boys then 1 & 5. To see these wonderfully crafted photos – it means alot to me. Thank you for that.
    Sincerely,
    Deanna M. Maguire-Freeman

    September 2009.

Landen was so happy to see his uncle Brian as he returned from his deployment in Iraq. They are best buds! Brian is leaving for another deployment this June. We are proud of the work he does, but we sure do miss him!

I took this picture of my daughter, Lily Grace, placing a wreath on a fallen soldier’s gravesite at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Houston, TX during Wreaths Across America, December 2009.

I love to look at these images. I debated which image to post from when my husband returned from deployment….embracing our daughter, sitting in front of our new home (he was notified of deployment the day after closing on our new home), etc. I picked one that may not pop for it’s photographic quality. This is my 2 y.o. daughter, who was 15 months old when my husband left. She was so tiny and a bit unsure of who Daddy really was. It shows a sweet, but sad side to deployment for those with young children. I just love the posture and expression on her face as Daddy patiently coaxes her for a hug (with a bit of help from sister).
