Photoshop Actions can enhance Urban, Rural, Rust, and Old Cars

Often the same Photoshop treatment used for a color pop in the city, for an urban shoot, can be used on a rusty car and child portrait in the country. It is all about color and how you want to make it come alive.  For this blueprint before and after image, submitted by Laurie Mire of Laurie Anne Photography, she wanted to give her image more contrast and richer colors. She turned to the All in the Details set: which contains Photoshop actions for bringing out natural textures and hidden colors. It is perfect for urban settings, with brick, old rusty piping, concrete, etc. It also works amazing on old cars and trucks.

Here are her step-by-step instructions – to go from the before to the after image:

  1. First I duplicated layer and ran “Details {extreme color}” from the All in the Details action set. This gave the image rich, vivid colors (but gets masked off the skin) so it just goes where I want it as I enhanced the colors of the rust, grass and sky. I set the opacity at 70%.
  2. I masked the details off her skin at opacity 80% and flattened layer.
  3. I then ran the action “Binoculars,” which works like the clarity slider in Lightroom.  I dropped opacity to 60% and flattened.
  4. Lastly I used the action, “Hide and Seek.” I used the hide layer and darkened the edges at 50% opacity.

Simple, fast….and what a beautiful enhancement to my images!!!

Love this! I am thinking about purchasing your actions and was curious – when you say that you masked off the girl for Details (extreme color) – what is the fasted and easiest way to do that in a layer mask when using the action? Thanks! 🙂
