Those were really great. I’m not a photographer (just someone with a DSLR and photoshop), so I haven’t had first hand experience with these situations, but I can just imagine….. I took a couple of classes (1 photography and 1 photoshop), but haven’t taken the time to really development my skills and I can’t imagine actually asking for payment… I did take some senior pictures of my cousin last year(apparently the professional photographer they hire to do that takes hardly any time and many of the students’ photos turned out really bad) and they were very happy with the results. This year, another cousin graduating with the same senior year photographer got really bad pictures back, so I’ll probably do it again. In playing around with photoshop on some pictures his mom took (I just lent her my camera since she had to have a picture for a yearbook deadline), I realized that, even with lots of photoshop, the pictures are just not going to be the quality that a professional would take (except for the BAD professional they used).

Sad but true! And this applies to so many fields of endeavor these days! Everyone is an Artist, Graphic Designer, Jewelry Designer, Photographer, Writer, etc, even if they’re bad at it.

I make jewelry and have seen it so many times that’s it’s funny. Someone who has never made jewelry before makes something and thinks it’s good enough to sell right away. Never mind that it’s c*rap :~)

As I state in my Flickr Profile, “I am not, and will never be, a professional photographer. I just love taking pictures! I point and shoot and hope for the best :~)”.

I do admit, however, that I was seduced into buying a G11 recently, even though I KNOW that it’s the photographer, not the camera! The funny thing about that is that I never had a Real Camera, because I was daunted by terms such as f-stop and now I have to learn about them anyway :~) But I am going to resist the temptation to buy a DSRL, because I know it’s way too much for me to learn!

Thanks so much for your great website and I know it’s going to help me become a better Amateur Photographer :~)

These were funny…. but as a professional, I always wondered why amateurs and photo-enthusiasts thought us to be snobbish and rude. I guess this is why.

Yes, we have a lot of issues as professionals. But we can choose to be downright bitter (like the robots) or we can choose to create an air of education and teaching, and encourage the right things in developing photographers. Things that keep up the industry standards.

I find with some simple education and the right attitude on my part, most of my clients understand what’s expected price-wise and what professional, custom photography is all about.

Oh!! I totally love these! It’s just so hilarious, I love the one with heroes! LOL! I’ve seen your work on the internet and I really love it! So I bought a better camera than you have, to take a better picture than you. Oh it’s totally the camera, not the photographer.
It’s so true!! I call myself “photographer” – because I started shooting picutes about a 3/4 year ago and I totally love it. I shooted portrait session for my friends, promo session for band and I take pictures of their concerts. I have SO much to learn!! Every day, I spent at least two hours searching for a new tips, shutter speed, light tips, photoshop tips. I am downloading so many actions and I take every option to try shooting various events. But of course, I do not charge for my pictures, because I am still in a process of learning and dont really feel that my work is worth paying for!
I can not wait to shoot better and every time i read something or take some online course, I can not wait to try it!
My dream to become really a profesional and learn how to work with lights and exposure the best =))
