Vote Now: What is Your Editing Taste and Style
What is your editing taste and style?
For a change of pace, rather than share a detailed Blueprint today, we’re gonna mix it up a little. Below is an original photo by Vickie Pewitt, and six different edited versions. This is an example of how a photo can be edited in so many different ways. None are correct or incorrect, but I assume most of you will have a definite preference for one or two versus the rest. Do you tend to like extreme color pop, cross processing, black and white, subtle contrast, or even vintage? If you have time, quickly vote, and optionally add a comment if you wish explaining your preference. It will be interesting to see what MCP readers like best.
1. The Original {Before}
2. The Bag of Tricks edit
3. The curves class edit
4. The MCP Fusion edit with Desire
5. The MCP Fusion edit with Passion and Rustic
6. The Frosted Memories edit
7. The MCP Fusion black and white edit

I prefer 5.
I prefer #3
I liked #1 bcause it was the only one that the face of the girl on the left is not “blown out” over exposed. I am however a naturalist and an action shooter and prefer to see things the way they really are and not doctored.. yeah remove a zit here and there, but not the “China Doll” . I think evening all skin tones and laying on the actions is o.k. for studio or wedding, but in a outdoor or natural setting less is better.. at the most i would have changed shutter speed or f-stop to darken
Love the saturated colour and contrast of #4 but I also love a great B&W image.
I prefer #3. I like that there is no color cast on the doors yet the color is still punched.
I voted for number 3, the Curves Class Edit. It seems the most natural, which is my style of editing.
My eye was drawn to #3, but then I had to go with the one that I felt I would most likely hang in my home.
… which I forgot to add, was #5.
I voted for #5 Frosted Memories. I prefer this look because of the way the girls dressed. The accessories look nostalgic and I think the vintage look is a better fit. Thanks
I do like them all – but for this particular photo my favorite is the curves edit!
I voted for the BW, it’s a lovely bw conversion, but rather more – there is something about the colours in all of them that bothers me.
I like the curves. I think it should be called ‘Fresh!’
The curves edit (#3) put the most focus on the girls without muting.
The other edits seemed to blend in with the background more.
First choice was #3 – looks most natural. Second choice was #7 – I liked the simplicity of the black/white edit.
3 is my favorite, but I think they all look nice. 7 would be a second choice. I like a clean look with a little contrast and pop. I prefer the color because the girls are in such fun bright colors, but the b/w looks really neat too. Fun idea! I guess need to take that curves class!
This was fun-filled learning experience on how one photograph can generate different feels, expressions, and looks through post-processing! I lean towards intimate, spirit-evoking, and realistic photography so I chose the MCP fusion edit with desire.
are these photoshop actions or LR presets?
#3, #7, or original. The rest were all “too much” for me. When I looked at those, my first thought was, “Nice editing” rather than “Nice image”
Thanks for showing the different effects on the same photo; that’s so helpful! All are great, depending on the style. My favorites: #4 The MCP Fusion edit with Desire… because it brings out the dreamy look of the girl on the left. And #6 is just too cute with the Frosted Memories! Your blog has been so helpful. Thank you!
I really liked the Classic version but picked the vintage look due to the girls clothes. I had a hard time choosing between B&W, Vintage and Classic as those are my favorite looks. I usually like things to look as true to life as possible but will play for scrapbooks and fun!
As I posted and shared in FB..
Everyone chooses a different style of photo editing… and is all a matter of taste, a different client would opt on an unique taste… the next one wants the traditional… Your clients would love your work.. whether edited or not… You would find your own ‘style-language’ with your clients… Variety and innovation is the key!
