Now you have a chance to attend their He Said She Said Photography Workshop for FREE. They will be covering everything from pre-production (location, style and creativity, etc), to production (posing and working with your subject, lighting with off camera flash, etc), and finally, to post production (workflow, post processing, and everything business). They say “where one is weaker, the other is strong, and together, we offer a complete package with tons-o-knowledge.”
What does this mean? What is included? When is it?
- The workshop will take place on September 17th, 2011, with an optional lighting day on September 16th, 2011 in Detroit, Michigan.
- The winner will receive a free seat at the workshop on both days ($1350 value)!
- The winner will ALSO receive a one-on-one (well one-on-two) breakfast or lunch the following day with Travis and Jean to ask questions, get a portfolio review, etc!!!
Who can win?
- Any photographer who wants to learn from Jean and Travis!

- If you win, you have four options: (1) attend, learn a lot and have a blast, (2) transfer workshop to a friend – this does not mean sell it and it cannot be given away on your blog, (3) let us know and we can draw another winner, (4) use it on a future He Said, She Said Workshop within one year (but keep in mind, no future dates are currently set and there are no guarantees these will work for you)

Loved the trick about the poor mans macro. Tried it and voila it worked. Soo cool
I thought it was interesting that Jean said many photographers are eager to jump into business and she suggest waiting. I agree with her suggestion and I am patiently waiting to start a business until I feel totally comfortable in front of the camera and produce the best quality images possible. I think I could learn so much from this workshop and it could help me improve my photography skills so that I am one step closer to opening my own business.
I have been wanting to pursue a photography business for a long time, but I used to work 60-75 hours at my day job nearly every week. After 10 years with my company, my position was eliminated (along with many others) back in April. Since then I’ve been trying to absorb all I can about photography and the business. This is an incredible opportunity, especially because I don’t have much money to spend (still out of work).
I loved reading about Jean and Travis, especially their advice for those starting out. I would love the chance to learn a whole lot more from them. Thank you!
I am way to new to even understand what a great opportunity this would be. I don’t even understand most of the terms or techniques . If I win I plan on giving it to a very very talented photographer in hopes that one day as I progress in my education they will share their knowledge with me.
Would love to win this! I’ll be turning my 50mm around and trying macro, interesting!
Loved the 50 mm trick. Would like to learn posing. Thanks for the opportunity.
I would so love to have the opportunity to go to this workshop! I recently decided to start my own business as a photographer after 8 years of working for another studio as a retouch artist and some graphic design. I was very intrigued by the part of your interview where you turned the lense around to create a macro lense! Genius! I have and love the actions of yours that I have.
I like the reassurance that you don’t have to be the photographer that has loved photography from a child to be successful. I would love to attend the workshop and could improve every aspect of my photography as well as my business.
I love what Travis said about shooting what you love. I sometimes find myself pulled in all directions when it comes to photography and what he said really inspired me to “get back to the basics” of what I love to shoot.
I’ve liked (loved) MCP actions for a long time on FB! I’d probably shout from the rooftops if I win.

I am in awe of this workshop! It would be an incredible blessing to win this experience and would add so much to me personally as a photographer and to my business. This workshop would mean so much to me as I still have so much to learn. I hope I win
I enjoyed the little reverse lens macro trick and I’m about to go try that out. I would love to give this workshop to my wife who is currently building her portfolio. Thanks!
I really liked the idea of creating your own sun flare by using a bare flash. I think this workshop would be really great in helping to improve my skills as a photographer and help me to get started as a professional photographer. I have to be honest, I am a little intimidated thinking about the possibility of having my portfolio reviewed, but if I am serious about becoming a great professional photographer one day, I have to be willing to put myself out there so that I can learn about how I can improve.
Shared on my FB wall!
Their stories are so inspirational! I’d love to learn their lighting tricks and just see photography through their perspective!
I posted it on my FB page.

Business wise, I think this would help my business because I’d be able to receive critiques from amazing photographers, implement what they say into my work, and evolve! I already see a consistent improvement in my work and would love to push things even further by sitting down and talking to two people who are so talented. Where I live, opportunities like this are few and far between!
And I facebooked, too
I like the advice of pricing for the market you want. Pricing is an area I struggle with. I think I could learn a lot from this workshop and appreciate it having two different views.
LOVED the article! My favorite part was the leap of faith into the photography world! So brave-but so worth it
Hope to see you at the workshop!!
two things really resonated with me – ‘shoot what you love’ and ‘never under-price yourself’; one i feel like i adhere to, while the other is SO much harder! getting to win this contest, and attend this conference, would mean that i really am ready to change my lie, and truly follow my passion. that wealth of knowledge jean and travis are looking to share is inspirational, and would be complete and utterly welcome!!
)
(ps – i already am an FB fan, of course.

Such an interesting article! I want to try the trick with the 50 mm lens. I would love to attend the workshop and have more personal interaction to improve my photography.
Mcp actions and Jean fan on fb already!! fingers n toes crossed!
I love the lighting tips. The flash tip is something so genius!!!. I have been wanting to take the next step with my photography business for the past year. I believe Jean and Travis’s workshop will help me in taking that step by teaching me their techniques and workflow etc. It will totally help. I have likes the mcp facebook page and will be place in the banner on my blog. Thanks so much
I am just getting started so I love reading about having the courage to say “no.” (Also the little trick about the 50mm lens was awesome!)

The 50mm trick was pretty neat! Their pictures are beautiful. I am new to photography and would love to win the workshop. Thanks
Loved the interview and could feel your passion. Turning the lens around and manually focusing was an awesome tip! Taking pictures has been my passion for years and now with my new SLR, I am able to soak up tips and ideas. I would love to be inspired in person. My favorite pics are of kids, flowers, homes and landscapes. – JC
PS I love Michigan!!! Just got back from a week on the lake there.
I liked you on Facebook.
And shared a link to your site.
I really paid attention to when Jean said that to balance work and family, outsourcing is what saves her sanity. I always want to do everything myself, and when I read that, it made me feel so relieved to think that I could unburden myself by outsourcing certain parts of my business. Great advice!! Thanks.
Wow, I had no idea you could use a Nifty Fifty as a macro lens! The things you learn along the way. I also liked the helpful advice about starting out. I know I could learn so much from Jean and Travis – they are both fountains of knowledge. Thanks for offering this giveaway!
I tweeted the giveaway! (Oh and btw – I’ve liked MCP Actions for a LONG time now.

WOW! What a great giveaway and great interview. I recently discovered Jean and Travis a few weeks ago and saw that they offer the “He Said, She Said,” workshops and was thinking about saving up for one. So this giveaway is truly exciting!
Like everyone else, I loved Jean’s tip on using the 50mm for a macro lens. I wonder if it will work with a 135?
This workshop would really help my post-shooting and business aspects. I’ve recently relocated to Detroit from Washington State and have to re-start my business. It would be great to get some tips on how to market myself and keep my business going strong. I also LOVE their work and would love to get some tips on post-productions tips.
And of course I have “liked” MCP Actions on Facebook. I have done this through my personal page as well as my professional page.
Shared a link and comment on your page Jean <3
I shoot now things that I love but unfortunately that is not paying the bills. I need this workshop to help lead me in the right direction. I also have family in Michigan that I haven’t seen in over a year so if I win I would have the best of both worlds. Thanks.

Great Post –I love Jean’s post about not jumping in to starting a business but rather to hone your craft first! They appear to be an awesome couple and I love their work. I also love they are willing to share their passion and knowledge for photography!
Workshops experiences and learning is so valuable. Being able to shot and talk and discuss amongest a small group of people is a valuable learning experience. There is so much to learn from others

I love what Jean says about learning your craft before starting a business, then once you do, price yourself what you are worth. So very key.
What a fantastic workshop, by the way! I would be absolutely thrilled to learn from Jean and Travis.
I would absolutely LOVE to attend the workshop! I love photography and I have been trying to take the beautiful pics that I have seen through the MCP website mostly through trial and error. I would love to attend the workshop and sit down with them for one (or two
) on one and learn all that I can. It would be an invaluable experience for me!
Amazing opportunity!! Your blog and shots are an enjoyment
I need to learn macro and posting
