Details from Tamron USA about this lens:

Setting high-performance DSLRs free with SP engineering, strengthened by F/2.8 maximum aperture advantages and Tamron VC.

The compositional options afforded by the SP 17-50mm F/2.8 Di-II VC’s wide-to-moderate-telephoto zoom characteristics are prized by experienced photographers, rendering a picture angle range approximating a 26-78mm lens on a full frame DSLR or a 35mm SLR. A fast and constant F/2.8 maximum aperture allows cluttered backgrounds to be softly obscured, additional freedom in low-light conditions and added viewfinder brightness. State-of-the art properties, including XR (Extra Refractive Index) and LD (Low Dispersion) glass in an optical formula employing 19 elements and 14 groups—assures sharpness, optimal contrast and breathtaking image fidelity. Its form factor and handling characteristics can be traced to the use of aspherical element design and internal focus. Tamron’s proprietary tri-axial VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization adds to image sharpness and further expands low-light shooting freedom by combating image blur resulting from camera shake. Tri-axial VC addresses the adverse effects of camera shake in three planes making it possible to shoot handheld at as many as four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible.

The Tamron SP designation is reserved for lenses developed with special emphasis on extraordinary photographic performance. Engineers are free to innovate in an uncommon atmosphere where optical performance comes before price, resulting in lenses that satisfy the demands of discerning photographers.

    1. This lens would benefit me because I believe my 60mm is dying and I can not replace it right now

    2. Favorite focal length is 60mm-I love this lens

    3. I like MCP on Facebook!

    Nicole L says:

while 50mm is my FAVORITE focal length to shoot, sometimes having something in the 17-50 range allows for wider shots with out having to move around (which when photographing kids can be HUGE – they move sooo much faster then I do!). This will enable me to get those wider shots a whole lot quicker which would give me more shots to offer my clients! :)

And I love MCP- your facebook page is how I stay up to date on your stuff! :D

This lens would benefit me because this winter I will be shooting a lot of indoor sessions in a very small space. My 50mm 1.4 wont’ let me back up far enough. My fave focal length now is 50mm, because thats the lens I use 99% of the time. Also, I like MCP on facebook. Thanks for the great giveaway!!

I would love to own a wide-angle lens and be able to shoot an entire building without standing in the next county! My favorite focal length really varies, but mostly around 50 mm. I love MCP Actions, and already “Like” on facebook!

    Kristy Pruet says:

I primarily shoot with a 50mm f/1/4 lens for portrait work but would love to add this lens to my collection! I really need a fast zoom when children run out of the 50mm sweet spot. I’m a follower on FB too!

    Liz Bartlett says:

    1) I think this lens would benefit my photography because I don’t have a fast, wide lens. I’m trying to take more wide angle shots. I do a lot of landscape and portrait photography, and this length zoom with a fixed aperture would be perfect for my outside and inside work.
    2) My favorite focal length to shoot is 35-50mm, but I’m trying to shoot wider for something different and some variety.
    3) I do like MCP Actions on Facebook.

    Lindsey says:

This lens would be wonderful for taking my photos to the next level since I haven’t yet invested in a slight telephoto lens. I think the quality would be perfect for the types of photos I take (generally with a 50mm but I want something other than a fixed lens).

I believe that if I had this lens it would be a big aspect for my business. I do a lot of weddings and studio photography and have not been able to afford getting a 2.8 lens. I would be using this lens a lot.
right now after having to sale my camera and lens to help my family out when we both got laid off I only have a 18-55 3.5 lens. We did keep one camera so I can keep trying to make money for my family.

    Melissa says:

    1. This lens, with its f2.8, would be a huge improvement over my current zoom lens, which is f4-5.6. It would allow me to get more shots using available light without increasing the ISO or being forced to use flash.
    2. My favorite focal length is currently 50mm, but I think once I buy a 35mm lens that may change. ;)
    3. I “like” MCP Actions on Facebook.

up until recently, the 50mm has been my favorite lens to shoot with but as I said above, there are so many limitations, particularly for travel photography.

    Jenny says:

How would this lens benefit your photography? I think having a wider range of lenses to take different portraits and not using same focal length each and every shoot would be amazing. I think it could help advertise my point of view better as well.

What is your favorite focal length to shoot? I love 50mm but occasionally I like shooting at 300mm to make sure my subjects don’t know they’re actually being captured on camera, they tend to act more natural that way.

I have been a fan of MCP Actions on Facebook for quite some time now.

    1. How would this lens benefit your photography? This lens would be great in helping me with weddings. To have another lens to choose from would be awesome. That way I would have to keep switching cameras to get the look I want.
What is your favorite focal length to shoot? 24-70 is one of my favs.
    3. I like MCP on FB!

    1. This lens would allow me to shoot wider angles. I’ve been experimenting with this lately and love some of the creative shots I can get. But I usually have to rent a lens.
    2. If I had to pick one focal length, I’d choose the 50mm. But I love using my 28-75mm zoom because it’s so versatile.
    3. I already “like” MCP Actions on Facebook. I get lots of info from the posts and the updates remind me to check the blog. :-)

    Great give away!
    1. This lens would benefit my photography b/c my favorite lens is a Tamron that has seen too many years of hard work. It desperately needs to be replaced. I only have one other lens and it doesn’t match my Tamron.
    2. I should primarily with a 28-135 and find that around 35mm is where I shoot most. Must be my fav.
    3. I am a definite facebook fan!

  18. 18

How would this lens benefit your photography?
~this lens would allow me to learn more….I am still learning all the ins and outs of my camera and the lenses I have, and I love it.

What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
~Im into my macro right now…not sure why…I think its the bokeh

My favorite focal length is 50mm.

    Allie B says:

How would this lens benefit your photography?
I already have the 28-75 mm Tamron and could greatly benefit from having the 17-50mm lens because sometimes I find myself backing all the way up against a wall to take a photograph. So I guess that means I could use a little more focal range.

What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
I usually find myself liking 35-50mm. but I suppose thats because its within my current focal length abilities! Maybe that would change to 25mm with a new lens =D

Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior)

I like MCP Actions on facebook and I love them on photographs!

    Amy Woodell says:

I think this lens would benefit my photography greatly in that I shoot on location in a lot of homes and the 50 mm lens I use now is just not great for groups- I love the clarity of this lens but it is just difficult in small spaces. 50 mm is my favorite focal length to shoot at right now. I am currently a fan of MCP actions and I love all your actions as well as your blog. This would be such a blessing to win. Have a great day!

  22. 22

I also LOVE my 50mm, but like others I just don’t have the room to shoot indoors especially if it is a small house! I would love something that will go down to 17mm. This would give me a lot to work with. Right now 50mm is my favorite focal range. I have Love MCP and have been a fan for a while now :) Thanks for this awesome giveaway!!

  23. 23
    Kristi says:

I also have a 50mm that I use most of the time, my fave focal length. It is frustrating that I have move around more than I like. I would love to have the ability to “move without moving”. I have been frustrated with my current lens, in that I feel like my pics aren’t sharp enough.

I already like MCP actions on FB. Girl, I have it bookmarked under my toolbar! I love the articles, and have been researching the archives lately too. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

Generally I shoot at 50 mm, but when given the opportunity to win a lens which is 17-50, it would give me more options! As for how would the lens benefit me, well I would have to say that the 2.8 would be a great addition to my two lens which I have now, and accompanied by the VC, it would help to get those fast moving kiddos without a problem! I love MCP on Facebook!!!

This lens would help my in my studio my room is only 12 by 15 and I am shooting with 50 mm 1.8 but would love to have a tamron lens with more of a wide angle to get the shots I am missing I love shooting at 2.8 for back ground blur and this lens would also help with outdoor shots as well!.I do not have any lense that are wide angle and I have traded in my kit lenses for a 70-200 l series lens and now i HAVE NO MONEY to purhase a wide angle lense. I also have a family vacation coming up and am desperate to expand my kit and inlude a wider angle lens! Tamron has a great reputation and MCP Actions is a great site I like you on facebook and am always checking out your posts! Thank you Elsie Joyce

Oh, I was so excited I didn’t read the rest of the blog entry!! OH NO! You do not need to count my previous entry…here’s my corrected one.

This is the lens I have been WANTING> I took a class with Ken Hubbard this summer and everyone of his shots with this lens just loved.

It would benefit me with 2.8 range throughout the zoom.
I love shooting wide landscapes, with a foreground.
I am a mcp fb fan, which is how I saw the post!

  37. 37
    Jennifer says:

    1. The vibration compensation would really help when I’m taking photos of kids on the go – I don’t always have time to get into the ideal stable stance for capturing a moment, and I can see the VC would rescue moments that may otherwise have been lost.

    2. Favourite focal length depends a bit, but I certainly make the most of my prime 50mm lens. It would be great to have a lens that allowed me to shoot at f/2.8 at other focal lengths!

    3. I’m hoping I confirmed the ‘like MCP’ correctly on fb!

  38. 38
    Faith K says:

This lens would be fantastic as we are moving into the fall/winter season where light is at a premium. The 2.8 with the 15-50mm zoom would let me get the shots that I need when I am working indoors in limited space.

My favorite focal length is 50mm.

I of course am a follower on FB. I love MCP!

Thanks for the chance to win!

    Kerri says:

    1. i LOVE wide angle shooting. My current wide angle zoom lens is just too slow of a lens to really utilize. So having that fast speed would be awesome.

    2. i usually shoot 35mm for focal length right now.

    3. LOVE MCP actions already :)

  43. 43
    Jeremy C says:

50mm is my favorite focal length. I love my canon 50mm prime lens. However, when shooting a family, large groups, or close quarters, sometimes 50mm is too much. Being able to quickly move between a wide angle 17mm and a 50mm focal lengths would allow me to transition between shooting solos and groups quickly, or have greater flexibility within small spaces. It would also allow me to capture both nice tight shots and immediately pull back for a wide dynamic shot without having to move or change lenses. Which a lot of times causes the subject to move, change facial expression, or assume that shot it done.

And not only do I “like” mcp actions on facebook, but I have shared some of my own images edited with MCP actions on your page before. Love MCP!

    1. This lens would help me so much in getting sharper portraits of my kids and my friends’ kids – it’s the next lens on my purchase list, actually!

I know that camera is extinct, slowly saving for a upgrade :) I’ve never actually tried this lens, but from what I’ve read it produces a very sharp image which would be awesome. Maybe it would help my dinosaur, lol. I’ve of MCP on facebook and enjoy reading the posts. Thanks for the giveaway !

    1. This lens would be wonderful for walking around outside and getting snap shots of my children who are 2 and 6 months. The twin 2 year olds move fast and the zoom would allow me to snap photos of them in different locations with a great F stop – allowing for lower light conditions! Plus, I love using the wide angle portion of the lens in city shots at night. Just beautiful!

    1. Currently I shoot a NIKON 50mm 1.8 or my everyday lens is the tamron 18-27. This 2.8 would be a perfect compliment to my bag. I shoot a ton of portraits from seniors to families and more than 1,000 sports kids a year. I need a fast lens that can get the job done and produce beautiful portraits. This lens would allow me to shoot my portraits and groups without switching out the lens the bokeh and low light features are an added bonus. It will allow me to take my business to the next level and level the playing field between my at- home studio and that of the big dog studio in our area. It will show that with the right glass and creative eye you have what you need for great portraits.

    2. I shoot most my portrait on my 50mm. I love the look of my portraits but desire more of a focal range at times.

1.) I only have a 50mm 1.8. I would love to be able to get shots and focus closer up! I have to move around so much with a prime lens to get the shot. It would help me so much to have something different. I also would like to go into Real Estate photography for staging homes. A wide angle would be amazing for this!
2.) I can only shoot 50mm focal length. I love it, but I would loooove to go wider!

I shoot Senior Photos and Weddings primarily and recently rented a Canon 17-55 2.8 and LOVED it. I imagine this is very compatible.

My Favorite Focal Length is 24mm. This is only because it is the shortest length I current have with a 2.8 lens. When I rented teh 17-55, I found myself in the 17-18 range regularly, so I imagine when that becomes possible, it will become my favorite.

    1. Would be nice to shoot at wider angles. Also the f/2.8 is nice as well. I don’t currently have a lens that does that!

So excited I started following the blog and for your actions. This lens would add to my bare collection. I am a second year business and still only have two lenses in my bag. I rent most of my lenses (I am saving to purchase more). My favorite focal length to shoot is 50mm or 85mm. Yes, I like you on both my personal and business page of facebook. Excited to see who wins. Especially if it me.

I have a prime lens right now which I LOVE but it does limit my photography. I would love to have this lens to help capture the active LO and sports.

    50 is my favorite

Recently I have taken some photos for a real estate agent and found I need a wider angle lens. This lens would definitely help in those tight spaces. My favorite lens is a zoom and I use the 50 mm for most other type of images. I ‘like’ MCP on Facebook and appreciate the freebies and contests!

This lens would benefit me because I do alot of indoor shoots and need a wide angle lens. My fave focal length changes depending what im doing, for example when shooting rugby its 300mm but for portraits its got to be 50mm. I do like MCP on facebook and love getting your posts on there!

    Erin says:

Oh my goodness… this is the exact lens i am wishing for! This would benefit my photography because I use a 50 mm 1.8 and a 135 mm 2.8, and have nothing to shoot with in the 17-50 mm range. My favorite focal length to shoot at is 50 mm, because I do a lot of portraits. I have gotten so much wonderful information from mcp actions, and I am most certainly a fan on facebook. Thank you so much!

The tamron lens would be a great asset to my collection of lenses. I love shooting at 30 to 50mm. I have “liked’ MCP on facebook for sometime now.

I could greatly benefit from this lens. Right now I shoot with an 85mm (which I LOVE….it is my favorite lens and focal length ever) and a 50mm. Although I really love these two lenses, many times I wish I was able to capture things on a little wider scale. The 17-55 would be a great focal length, and I love that the aperature is still low. I have been a fan of MCP actions on facebook for a long time. I love MCP….your actions are amazing, and your blog is very inspiring! Thanks for holding such a great contest!

How would this lens benefit your photography? – This lens would benefit my photography by adding a much needed range to my collection the 28-75mm (for full frame) is a great range for portrait sessions, and it would be fantastic to have!
What is your favorite focal length to shoot? – Currently 85 but maybe this lens could change that
Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior) I do indeed like MCP actions – who doesn’t?!?

    1. I would have a larger collection of lens to learn from and this would be one of my very first pro-level lens that would definitely assist in improving the quality of my photography.
    2. Currently it’s 50 mm as I have a wonderful 50 mm prime that I love love love as it is a really good piece of glass!

1.This would benefit my photography as I only have the stock lens that came with my camera. I would like to expand on my skills, but with just a stock lens it makes it a little more difficult.

2.I really dont have a favorite focal length. It all depends on what I am shooting

i love to shoot with my 50mm prime. that’s by far my fave lens. but, in my tiny studio, i use my 35mm so i can shoot the whole scene from close up, and when i’m doing landscapes, i love to use a zoom lens so i can get different images of the same scene! This lens would allow me to do just that– and it’s such a great lens! how could it not be awesome!? =)
i Confirm that i “like” MCP Actions on Facebook

    thanks!!

This lense would benefit my business SOOO SOOO much, I am a newer photographer just trying to make ends meet in a bad economy with my secod child on the way. It would help me so much by giving me more opportunities to shoot in ways I am not able to shoot with at the moment.
My favorite lense I shoot with is my portrait lense, a used cannon 50mm 1.8
I LOVE< LOVE: LOVE! MCP Actions, they are what I use to edit all my photgraphy pictures :)

    Thanks

    1. This lens would benefit me because I shoot regularly in studio, I would like to be able to expand.
    2. I shoot with a 50mm 1.8, its perfect & my fave for the close work with model and glamour photography.
    3. I like and follow MCP on facebook, this is my first time entering a contest and I will spread the word!

  96. 96

I am already a fan of MCP and subscribe to the RSS feed. I find myself getting lost in articles MCP posts when I should be folding laundry ;) I currently use my Canon 50mm 1.8 for newborns (when I have the space!) As an on location photographer, I sometimes don’t have the room in a clients home to use this amazing lens and so I turn to my Tamron 28-75 which has been so good to me! Having the Tamron 17-50 will make my small lens collection a happy little family and would SURELY be my “go to” when in a smaller space with my snuggy buggy newborns.

    1) I shoot a lot of Portraits, Kids, & Weddings so have either lens added to my collection would greatly improve my versatility. I currently own 2 Tamron Lens and have always been a huge fan of them. Currently my 50mm 1.8 is the fastest lens i having the versatility of a fast zoom would greatly open up more options shooting for me.

    2) My New Nikon 50mm 1.8G has got to be my current favorite lens right now, i love that lens, so i would have to say that 50mm would be my favorite length to shoot.

    3) Ive been a long time follower of your Facebook, use most of your free actions, and Also added you on Flickr, Twitter, & Linked In, Along with subscribing to the Blog.

    Photo below is SOOC , d7000, 50mm @ 2.8.

    Melissa says:

    1. My current zoom only opens to f/4-5.6, so this one would allow me to get so many more shots that I’m currently missing.
    2. My favorite focal length is probably 35mm. But that changes week to week.;)
    3. I like MCP on FB.
