Details from Tamron USA about this lens:
Setting high-performance DSLRs free with SP engineering, strengthened by F/2.8 maximum aperture advantages and Tamron VC.
The compositional options afforded by the SP 17-50mm F/2.8 Di-II VC’s wide-to-moderate-telephoto zoom characteristics are prized by experienced photographers, rendering a picture angle range approximating a 26-78mm lens on a full frame DSLR or a 35mm SLR. A fast and constant F/2.8 maximum aperture allows cluttered backgrounds to be softly obscured, additional freedom in low-light conditions and added viewfinder brightness. State-of-the art properties, including XR (Extra Refractive Index) and LD (Low Dispersion) glass in an optical formula employing 19 elements and 14 groups—assures sharpness, optimal contrast and breathtaking image fidelity. Its form factor and handling characteristics can be traced to the use of aspherical element design and internal focus. Tamron’s proprietary tri-axial VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization adds to image sharpness and further expands low-light shooting freedom by combating image blur resulting from camera shake. Tri-axial VC addresses the adverse effects of camera shake in three planes making it possible to shoot handheld at as many as four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible.
The Tamron SP designation is reserved for lenses developed with special emphasis on extraordinary photographic performance. Engineers are free to innovate in an uncommon atmosphere where optical performance comes before price, resulting in lenses that satisfy the demands of discerning photographers.
Here are a few images taken with this lens:
The results of the Vibration Compensation (Image Stabilization) are amazing in these Tamron lenses. Check this example out!

WOW!! Awesome giveaway!!
1. This lens would benefit my photography because it would allow me to shoot at a wider angle and in much lower light.
2. Currently, I’ve been shooting a lot of new grandson, so my focal lengths are close – 35-50mm.
3. I’ve been following you on FB for a while. I love receiving your e-mails – they are PACKED with useful info!!!
1. I love shooting wide angle AND with a 50 mm for portraits. This lens will allow me to do both without having to change lenses
2. See #1 + my macro. I collect lenses!
3. Of course I like MCP actions on FB!
I’m totally in the learning phase still!
I shoot a lot using my 50mm 1.8 but sometimes wish I had more range so this lens would be perfect! Thanks so much for the chance
Ah, well…I would LOVE to win this lens. I think it would be a great lens to use with portraits. I currently only own an 18-200 f4. I am just starting out, so not sure what my favorite length would be. Maybe 50mm??
Thanks for the chance to win!!
And, yes, I’ve got MCP actions in my feed reader.
I just shared the giveaway on FB!
1. It will fill the gap between 17mm and 28. Since I already own the Tamron 28-75mm. I will be able to learn more about wider angles.
2 I’m frequently at the 75mm end of my Tamron. As the weather brings me inside I’ll probably be spending some time with my Thrifty 50.
3. I liked you on FB long ago
Well i’m just starting out as a photographer and of course any new equipment would be more than welcome
I mostly do portraits and love getting that soft bokah looking background so this lens would definitly benifit me in getting that look.
Lately i have been shooting alot somewhere between 35mm to 85mm. I don’t really have a favorite mm place to shoot yet.
I am already a fan of MCP on FB!

1. I am in need of a sharp, fast lens that I can use at wider angles. This lens is on my wish list already.
2. I borrowed an 85mm 1.8 lens last month. And I absolutely loved the portraits I created with it. But right now I mostly shoot 50mm.
3. I am an MCP Actions Facebook fan and have been for a long time.
I usually shoot at 50mm or use my 85mm prime. mostly kids and animals so this would be a VERY handy lens to have!since i am pushing 60 with a touch of arthritis, moving is not as easy as it used to be.
1. I love shooting at low aperatures for the background is blurred/softened. This brings out what you are focusing on and this lens would be great for shooting in any situation.
2. My favorite lens so far is the Nikon 24mm f/1.4 but is very expensive so I have to rent it.
3. I have liked you for around a year now and have bought action package from you, which I love using.
This Lense would give me more compostional options in my photography while exploring portrait and landscape photography.
50mm for Fav. focal length
I have “liked MCP Actions. Http://www.facebook.com/suzannedospassos

I have a newly found passion for photography. This lens would help me freeze time and capture the moments that seem to go by so fast when you are raising 4 children.
I use my camera to take their portraits. I find that I use the macro a lot too. I basically use all of the 17-50mm spectrum. I like to just shoot! I love to shoot in Apature mode as well!
I have already liked your page on my Facebook and I also spread the word by mouth. I also showcase my work and brag that I wouldn’t have been able to do most of it without the help of your actions! Thankyou for making my work better!
I have also shared this link on my FB page!
1. I would LOVE to add a wide angle zoom lens to my arsenal for capturing photos of kids (my clients’ and my own).
2. Right now my favorite focal length is 50mm but there are time when that just doesn’t allow me to capture enough of the scene.
3. Have liked MCP on Facbook for some time.

1. This lens will help me give my clients–variety. I will be able to capture different scenes (street scenes, portraits, etc.) with this one lens. I love that this lens has a low aperture which means it will be great for low-light shooting!
2. Currently, I have a prosumer. But, my dslr will be arriving in 3 days!!!
3. I am already a fan of MCP Actions on Facebook – love your actions & advice!

How would this lens benefit your photography? I currently am just starting out and only own the stock lens. The quality of the images is sooooo much better with the Tamron…it would make me much happier with my work.

1.How would this lens benefit your photography?
At the moment I only have a kit lens for my Nikon D5000 with F5.8 and would love some more versitility with aperture.
2.What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
I don’t really have a favorite focal length at the moment.
3.Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior)
I just liked MCP on Facebook.
1.This lens would benefit my photography because it is not a variable aperature lens and has the “I cant be still” helper function.
I have nothing like this in my bag and it would give me a whole new world of shooting options that I would love to begin shooting.
2. My favorite focal length is normally 120-160mm. I usually assist and like to get in to get the close details and provide a different viewpoint.
3. I already really really “like’ MCP Actions on facebook.
Oh I would love this lens!!
1. I NEED a zoom lens—I would love to be able to have a little wider angle than my 50mm.
2. 50mm
3. I am a fan on FB.
I blogged this giveaway
http://belovedaimees.blogspot.com/2011/09/tamron-lens-giveaway-for-canon-or-nikon.html
1. Not only would this lens improve the quality of my photos… it would also allow me to take photos =p, my camera currently has no lens and I don’t have a dime to replace it yet!
2. I like experimenting. But 50mm.
3. Yup, I “liked” MCP Actions on facebook.
1) I’m always wishing I had the ability for wider shots!
2) I find myself shooting around 40mm a lot with the 28-75.
3) Liked (LOVE) on FB!!
1.) I love shooting in low light situations. I also would like to get more into landscape photographs and this lens would help me achieve beautiful landscape photos. Overall this lens would give me more flexibility than the kit lens that came with my camera. The kit lens is just not cutting it!
2.)My favorite focal length to soot in would probably be 50mm. I LOVE taking portraits of friends and family and this focal length works great for that!
3.) I have ‘liked’ MCP actions on facebook for some time now. That’s how I found out about this contest!
1. Simply because I don’t have anything in that focal range! It would be great to shoot a little wider
2. It honestly varies based on the client and situation, but lately it has been around 85 on a full-frame camera
3. Yes, I have “liked” MCP Actions for a very long time …
I shared your link on Facebook!! Love your actions!
I have just purchased my first DSLR camera and have just one lens for it. I would love to have this lower aperture lens for more practice, practice, practice. And of course I have already liked you on
facebook…no better site than yours.
I stumbled this
I tumbled this

How would this lens benefit your photography?
I am just starting to shoot weddings and events, but the widest lens I have is a 50mm and it’s a prime, which makes wider shots, especially in tight spaces, very challenging. This lens would really help a lot for those shots, as well as some portrait sessions with kids who are constantly moving (a zoom lens with this aperture capability would be awesome)!
What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
My 50mm f/1.4 is my fave lens for portraits and just about everything.
Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook.
I “like” MCP Actions from both my personal (cristen26) and fan (cristenfarrellphotography) Facebook pages.
1. I need a faster, wider angle lens for portraits with children. The widest I currently own is 50mm, and there have been so many shots where I have missed good details because I couldn’t pull out/move back more.
2. Right now, my favorite is 50mm.
3. I definitely “like” MCP Actions on Facebook!
How would this lens benefit your photography? I desperately need a great quality zoom lens (I only have primes).
What is your favorite focal length to shoot? right now 50mm
Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior) Oh yes, LOVE “like” MCP Actions on FB. One of my go to sources for news, info and training!

why this would help me. I currently have 2 lens, not much variety and not much money to buy nice lens…. so this would help me a ton to be able to take a more wide range of photos and have more variety. I would love this lens.

1. I would love to have the wide angle capability of this zoom lens! I have a 50mm, but do a lot of positioning of myself for the shots.
2. 50mm
3. I like MCP on Facebook
I put the MCP Actions banner on my blog
I am just starting out professionally and I shoot a lot of music shows. This lens would really allow me to get everything I want in the shot, and would be a HUGE upgrade (significantly faster than my current lens!). And actually, 17 is my favorite focal length to shoot! This is a beautiful lens – I tried it out in the store, but couldn’t afford to buy it!
I just put the MCP banner on my blog (left column): http://www.cristenfarrellphotography.wordpress.com

What a great contest!
1. This lens would benefit my photography as it would give me great quality pictures with the ability to zoom (stuck with the kit zoom right now!)
2. As of right now my favorite focal length is 50mm because that is the “good” lens I have. But I would love to experiment!
3. I have already liked MCP actions (that’s how I heard about the contest!”
I have your banner on my blog!

I would LOVE to use this lens for my portrait shots! My favorite to use right now is my 50mm… I like MCP actions already on FB because your awesome!!! Thanks for all of these awesome contests!!
This would help solve my photo shaking issues for sure with the VC. I use a 50mm primarily, but wish i had a range lens so that the lens would do the moving instead of me : ) Liked on FB!!! Thanks for the chance to win such an awesome lens!
1 – I am still learning everyday, so any new lens will force me to experiment with different focal lengths!
2 – I love 50mm length. It is a great “sweet spot”
3 – I already liked you on Facebook! I love to read your posts, guest posts and tutorials!
Thank you for this opportunity!
1 this lense will help my photography by giving me wide angle and the ability to get in close for portraits and nature photos
2 i dont know if I really have a favorite focal length because I only have the “kit” lense that came with my camera
3 of course I LOVE you on Facebook
This lens would help me by getting to learn the differences in photographs that can be obtained with it. My favorite distance to shoot is just far enough away to not interfere with the natural actions of the subjects I’m photographing. I have “liked” you on Facebook.
I’ve recently started shooting weddings and this lens would be awesome, and help so much with shots needing a wide angle! I don’t currently have a wide angle lens, or a lens with vibration reduction.
My current fave is my 50mm 1.4!
I don’t just like MCP on Facebook…I LOVE!!!
shared a link on facebook!
1.I’m just starting out and need to expand my lenses…currenlty I ONLY have the kit lens…sad, I know!
2.I’m going to say 50mm…although, I’m still searching for what I like best!
3.Oh, I am DEFINITELY a fan on FB! I love your page and love that there is someone to go to to ask questions!
My favorite and only lens I use at all because it is the only one I won besides a kit lens is a 35mm. So I guess that is also my preferred focal length. I would love a little more versatility when I am taking pictures of my kiddos, and the opportunity to try a new lens.
I am already a fan on facebook, and love using your site as a resource to learn new things
This lens would be incredible to add to the arsenal I use already. The ability to have the vibration control and shoot those low light shots without a flash using just the ambient light… Incredible! Favorite focal length? well I’d have to say 50mm as I shoot portrait and fashion. Of course I like you on Facebook – Always will!
This lens would benefit my photography because it would allow me to shot in lower light areas and still get great shots. In the north, it’s all about the lack of natural light!
My favorite focal length…. hmm, I do love my 50mm… but really it depends on what I’m shooting.
I like you on Facebook! I don’t know how to “confirm” that, but it’s how I saw about the giveaway!
I would love to use this lens for wide angle shots. I have been saving my pennies for a lens like this.
My favorite focal length so far has been at 50mm but that’s all the lenses that I have so it would have to be that.
I like MCP Actions on Facebook!
Thanks for the great giveaway!!!
1. Having a versatile, fast zoom lens will allow me to carry less when I travel.
2. My favorite focal length is 50mm.
3. I like MCP Actions on Facebook.
I think the lower aperture than the f/4 that I have would allow more opportunities in lower light with out having to switch to my prime lenses.
Current lens that I shoot with the most is my 50mm.
I am already a huge fan of “MCP Actions.
Thank you!
Just posted this link on my facebook page (and tagged MCP Actions in the post)! Fingers crossed!!
How would this lens benefit your photography?
I am a new photographer trying to start up my own business. This is not only a lens that would help me take better photos, but has been on my wishlist for so long!

I do not have a lens this wide to it would absolutely open up a whole new look to my images. I love to as open as possible and I have the el cheapo 50mm 1.8 and I’m making myself practice with that before going shallower. And I’m with everyone else – I don’t just like I love

I’d love this lens…I just upgraded to a full frame body but only have one FX lens — an 85mm. I like it but need wider angles — so I am still using my 35mm DX lens and get sad every time I see the box that shows I’m not taking full advantage of the full sensor.
