Details from Tamron USA about this lens:

Setting high-performance DSLRs free with SP engineering, strengthened by F/2.8 maximum aperture advantages and Tamron VC.

The compositional options afforded by the SP 17-50mm F/2.8 Di-II VC’s wide-to-moderate-telephoto zoom characteristics are prized by experienced photographers, rendering a picture angle range approximating a 26-78mm lens on a full frame DSLR or a 35mm SLR. A fast and constant F/2.8 maximum aperture allows cluttered backgrounds to be softly obscured, additional freedom in low-light conditions and added viewfinder brightness. State-of-the art properties, including XR (Extra Refractive Index) and LD (Low Dispersion) glass in an optical formula employing 19 elements and 14 groups—assures sharpness, optimal contrast and breathtaking image fidelity. Its form factor and handling characteristics can be traced to the use of aspherical element design and internal focus. Tamron’s proprietary tri-axial VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization adds to image sharpness and further expands low-light shooting freedom by combating image blur resulting from camera shake. Tri-axial VC addresses the adverse effects of camera shake in three planes making it possible to shoot handheld at as many as four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible.

The Tamron SP designation is reserved for lenses developed with special emphasis on extraordinary photographic performance. Engineers are free to innovate in an uncommon atmosphere where optical performance comes before price, resulting in lenses that satisfy the demands of discerning photographers.

I’m still a newbie. I’m learning about the differences between different lenses and I find it fascinating.

I have 2 lenses, the one that came with my camera and a telephoto zoom lens. Right now I prefer the one that came with my camera, the AF-S 18-55mm VR lens.

I have liked MCP on FB for quite some time now. :-)

    1. This lens would benefit my photography because I think it is so tender with all the emotions that are in a room surrounding a bride when she is getting in her dress. I have been doing a lot of weddings lately and I have to sacrifice some of the people because I don’t have a large enough frame.
    2. Right now my favorite lens to shoot is the 85mm. Love the DOF on it.

    1. I recently started learning about photography…I had twins just about 2 years ago. As soon as they arrived I wanted to capture every smile, every laugh, every moment. I got frustrated with all the point and shoot cameras…none was fast enough to capture my 2 very active toddlers and decided to upgrade to a Nikon DSLR. My dream is to one day be talented and lucky enought to turn my hobby into possibly a side business. Hopefully allowing me to be able to schedule my time around my childrens schedules so that I could continue to be their to capture every moment of their lives.
    2. Being new to photography I only currently have the lens (18-105mm) that came with my Nikon DSLR camera. So far that is the only lens I have had the opportuity to shot with. However I know that if I were to win this lens this would be my favorite after seeing the samples posted on the MCP blog/website.
    3. Yes I “LIKE” MCP on Facebook. This was one of my first things I did after deciding to learn about photography. I have learned alot already in a short time thanks to the posts/comments and blog entries…I can not wait to see what is to come!!!

I shoot sports, action and team photos, so this lens would allow me to go wide when needed while doing team photos without standing so far away with my 75-200 lens. While shooting action, I like to use 200-300 mm, this allows me to stand out of the way of the players but still get that great shot I’m looking for..

I love to shoot 50mm. This lens would allow me to have a good, all around lens to walk around and shoot with and not have to change lenses so often. I think I’d really love it for weddings! I’ve also “liked” you on FB.

I bought my 1st slrd about 6mo ago. Having this lens would be WONDERFUL as I do not yet own such a lens. The 2.8 aperture would be awesome for shooting in low lights with my kids, which I’m always taking pics of. Plus the VC would be great in my amateur hands. :)

Not sure I have a favorite focus length, but I probably shoot 50mm the most.

    1. How would this lens NOT help my photography – impossible! It’s fabulous! I do not have a business but would like to, and photography is an expensive ‘hobby’ now…any lens additions are a huge bonus, especially a wide angle with this range!

    2. I use my 18-55mm all of the time now.

    3. I not only like MCP, I LOVE them! The blogs are so useful and the actions are amazing.

It gets tiring entering giveaways when I dont have a family member in the military, a child with a debilitating disease, or a life threatening illness.

I mean Im happy for those win but it seems that the average joe has no chance of winning any contests anymore.

Even so, congratulations to Sara Webb and I hope you get some awesome shots!

    1. This Lens would really help me to shoot in low light conditions such as indoor weddings. I only have the kit lens now and this would really open up my overall photography applications.

2.My favorite focal length is 50-80mm.

3.Site is confirmed Like. Thanks for the contest

First of all, thank you so much for this opportunity to win!

    1. This lens would be so helpful to me to expand my creativity, and thus grow further with my business. Student loans definitely limit my ability to expand my equipment collection, so I only have one lens that I use for all of my work. I work in low-light conditions on a regular basis, so having a high-quality lens with such a great range AND a constant 2.8 aperture is something I have been saving for for quite some time!

    2. Right now my favorite focal length is 50mm.

    3. I have already “liked” MCP on facebook, have purchased some of your actions, and LOVE THEM. Thank you so much again!

I could really benefit from this lens because I simply do not have a fast lens in my camera bag yet. I love shooting at about 50mm for most portraits. Thank you.

I would love to have this lens because I don’t have a wide angle lens yet and it would completely expand my horizons, both creatively and in my budding business. I love to shoot at a 50mm for portraits, but I really love landscape and travel photography and would love the wider angle for that. I have been a fan on fb for quite a while now. Love the actions!
