Details from Tamron USA about this lens:

Setting high-performance DSLRs free with SP engineering, strengthened by F/2.8 maximum aperture advantages and Tamron VC.

The compositional options afforded by the SP 17-50mm F/2.8 Di-II VC’s wide-to-moderate-telephoto zoom characteristics are prized by experienced photographers, rendering a picture angle range approximating a 26-78mm lens on a full frame DSLR or a 35mm SLR. A fast and constant F/2.8 maximum aperture allows cluttered backgrounds to be softly obscured, additional freedom in low-light conditions and added viewfinder brightness. State-of-the art properties, including XR (Extra Refractive Index) and LD (Low Dispersion) glass in an optical formula employing 19 elements and 14 groups—assures sharpness, optimal contrast and breathtaking image fidelity. Its form factor and handling characteristics can be traced to the use of aspherical element design and internal focus. Tamron’s proprietary tri-axial VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization adds to image sharpness and further expands low-light shooting freedom by combating image blur resulting from camera shake. Tri-axial VC addresses the adverse effects of camera shake in three planes making it possible to shoot handheld at as many as four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible.

The Tamron SP designation is reserved for lenses developed with special emphasis on extraordinary photographic performance. Engineers are free to innovate in an uncommon atmosphere where optical performance comes before price, resulting in lenses that satisfy the demands of discerning photographers.

1.How would this lens benefit your photography? The TAMRON would replace my low end lens that has multiple Aperture settings that has caused me to miss some great shots and also I beleive it will help with low light/ night shots.
2.What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Im comfortable with 50
3.Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – I have been following you on FaceBook for several months now

This lens would benefit me because…. I don’t have any lenses yet!
I am just starting out and need all the accessories I can get.
    I like 80-85mm focal length.
I wish they had a “love” button for your facebook but I have “like”d it.

    Andrea Hayford says:

    1. I’m a big fan of light and of taking up-close pictures of my subjects, and the lens obviously has a good way of working with light and for creating wonderfully sharp images at close range.
    2. I love shooting at 50mm.
    3. I have already liked MCP Actions on Facebook.

1.) How would this lends better my photography. I am a freelance journalist. I submit photos with all of my articles. If the photo isn’t print worthy then it could mean losing out on the assignment as well. In a competitive market, being a package deal by writing and providing the photos is very valuable.

2.) I love taking action shots. The distance isn’t as critical as taking action shots. 35 is usually the best distance.

3.) I have been following MCP actions for almost a year now.

My budget is very limited, so just starting photography was a big trouble for me. I am grateful for the bundle lens I have because I made a lot of memories and learned a lot, but of course, I would like to upgrade to a better lens. I am always wanting to experiment and learn more about photography, and I believe this lens will help fulfill my desire to do so. I’ve heard nothing but good about this lens.

I tend to shoot at 50mm, I guess because I like close-up pictures. If I win this lens though, I would like to try taking pictures at a variety of focal range.

And here’s the picture to prove that I liked MCP Actions page on Facebook! If I didn’t like the page, it wouldn’t say “unlike” at the bottom :)

I also pinned this on Pinterest!

1] This lens would benefit my photography by allowing more light in. I love shooting using natural light, which is very limited sometimes. I’ve taken many photography classes over the years, but just purchased my first dslr a few months ago. I really need an upgraded lens, but it’s quite expensive (as you all know!)

2] I like shooting around 85mm. Lately I’ve been using a wider angle, I tend to go in phases, but I also love anything macro!

3] I liked the page just earlier today and cannot WAIT to put some of your actions to use!

I think I’m shooting mostly at 50 most of the time.
Of course I’ve “liked” you and absolutely love your actions. they make processing a lot simpler.

    1. I would really love to have this lens because it’s been hard to save up enough money for new lenses due to my young age, and the fact that I am just a housekeeper making minimum wage. But I love photography, and I think experimenting with new lenses will definitely improve my skill and my work. I feel like I am ready for a lens better than my kit lenses, and my old Pentax lenses I use for free-lensing.

    2. Generally I shoot with my 70-300mm, and I enjoy the results.

I work in the Behavior Intervention Program and also work with the yearbook staff here at my middle school. This would be a great lens to help us get better shots of our students working or in their activites for the yearbook.
I love shooting action shots of the kids so a focal length of 70-200mm has worked well for me.
I’ve been following you guys for about 3 months and I love all the ideas and pointers.

I probably don’t really know how much it would help my photography. Right now i am a beginner with a low end lens. I have never used a fast, glass lens with image stabilization. I like to think this would help alot of my problems that i am experienceing now. I shoot alot of close ups of children with a 50mm lens.

  34. 3034
    Emily says:

1.The Tamron lens would definitely improve my ability to capture different subjects with better images. Right now, my subjects are my three busy children, who are ages 3,2, and 1. So i obviously don’t have the ability to buy my own lens that is this nice!
2.My favorite is 50, but i don’t have a lense that shoots less. 3.I have “liked” MCP Actions for a long time on facebook. My only dream is to actually have photoshop someday :)

  36. 3036

    1. I would love the Tamron 17-50mm because I love shooting landscapes and also portraits. The f2.8 aperture would be great for me to shoot in low light conditions, because the Nikon D3000 that I own isn’t very good in low light conditions and with high ISO.
2.My favorite focal length to shoot is 50mm or 200mm.
3.I confirm that I liked the Facebook page, I attached a photo with the Free Valentine Template Page, which is available only for fans.

    3. already “liked” you on FB!

  38. 3038

    1. How would this lens benefit your photography? Last year I started my business, but I have been taking photos for a long time. 2. What is your favorite focal length to shoot? I use an 18-50mm lens
3.Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior) I have been friends with MCP Actions of Fb for about a month now :] and I plan on purchasing some actions when I get the money.

How would this lens benefit your photography?
I just dropped my Tamron 19-35 lens which destroyed it. I really need a wider lens like this. I use wider angles for many types of shoots and I also have a very small shooting area indoors. So this type of lens is necessary.

    1. This 17-20mm Tamron lens will benefit my photography more than you will ever know. I am a amature photographer who loves nature photography. I Hane a 70-200 and a 50mm lens but is urgently in need of a wide angle lens – and do not have the money to buy one at the moment. The photo I added is an example…

This lens would benefit me because I am not very well off and I love photography. I shoot from portraits for dancers, weddings, newborns, and lifestyle. 2. My favorite focal length is probably at 25mm, because it’s still pretty wide, and the background is more blurry.

1.This lense would be great to have for filming. I use my canon 7d for mostly filming and these Tamron lenses work great for that. I’ve never owned one but have got to use a few and I’ve been blown away by their performance when filming.
    2. I use alot of different focal lengths but I love showing very defined depth of field with the focus on my characters and a blurred background
    3. I just joined and am excited to be apary of this blog

It will benenfit me because I have just started my business in November and I already have 2-3 sessions a week. The better the lens…The better composition!
    Favorite focal lenght is 50-75
Oh…I have been following you on FB…You guys rock!

1.How would this lens benefit your photography? As a growing photog my equipment is starting to hold me back a bit now, I’m upgrading as I can afford and this would help greatly.
2.What is your favorite focal length to shoot? 25-50mm

1.) My camera is a bit older now and a nice fast lens would help me take better low light pictures without having to deal as much with noise. Also do more experimenting with bokeh and depth of field in my portraits

2.) As someone who enjoys landscape photography and perspective I like shooting wide. 12mm on a DX

I want to become a better photographer but the money is a issue with me. I only have two lens and one camera body. It would be like my birthday and Christmas to me to win something like this! Thanks to groups like this who offer advice and gifts!

    Kristoff says:

    1. I would really like a fairly fast zoom lens that could replace several wide-normal primes without significant loss in image quality.
    2. For my favorite focal length, I used to believe in the classic rangefinder technique of a 50mm (~32mm on APS-C), then just take a few steps forward or back to achieve perfect composition. However, now I see this high-quality lens that could cover my most commonly used focal lengths (50, 28mm, and 17mm) without needing to change lenses frequently or move around to find the correct framing.
    3. I have already ‘liked’ MCP Actions on Facebook

  67. 3067

Recently my well and often used Tamron 18 -200mm variable aperture lens died….just wouldn’t connect to the camera any more without error messages. It caused problems with a couple of photo shoots….and the only other lens I had was a canon 50mm prime 1.8. So I bought a Canon 70 – 200mm f4 which I love and a tamron for canon 28-75 f2.8 lens. I shoot a lot of events especially theatre productions…and parties….so though I am thrilled with these lenses very soon afterward I was shooting a high school reunion and when they asked me to take a picture of all 110 attendees outside the venue….I was lucky that I happened to have my kit lens 18 – 55mm. with me….but of course I wasn’t happy with the quality of the picture…so I NEED this tamron lens very very badly! :)

  68. 3068

OMG just left a huge message about why I need this lens but didn’t finish the other 2 questions.
    1. I need the lens because I have a 70 – 200 f4 and a 28 – 75 f2.8 and a 50mm prime 1.8….but need a wide angle zoom for large group pictures and theatrical productions shots.
    2. I love to shoot at between 18 & 35mm.
    3. I not only like you on Facebook, I love you on Facebook!

This lens would be a great addition to my Canon. I only have the stock 18-55mm lens. If I win this, it will mean that I will stop asking my brother to borrow his.

I mainly use a focal length of 18m or 30m.

I follow MCP and love it! Editing is now more easier and fun with MCP. It also provides me more time to shoot :)

    Cari says:

    1. This would greatly help my photography because I sold my other camera with the lens and I need a wider angled lens then the 70-300 that I have. This will help with my low-light situations.
    2. I love to shoot around 50 because I like closeups.
    3. I liked you on facebook and twitter :-)

    Jason Rykiss says:

    1. This lens would greatly benefit me due to the fact that I’m currently only using the kit lens that came with my camera. To have a better piece of glass would greatly improve the overall quality of the photographs I produce and help me succeed at furthering my desire to pursue photography as a professional job (at least part time!).

    2. My favorite focal length is basically anything in the range of the lens you’re giving away. 17mm and the lower amounts are great for landscapes, which is probably my main passion. Going up to 50mm, I use that most often to do portrait works and some macro stuff.

    3. Already “like” you on Facebook and follow on twitter.

How would this lens benefit your photography? This lens would replace my older 50mm with a higher end lens. Also, I’m a hug fan of night photography and creating HDR’s and with this lens I would be able to capture a wider range of color and light than I could before. By winning this lens, I would definetly be able to achieve a different look on images that I’ve been striving for.
What is your favorite focal length to shoot? I love to shoot super wide for the most part so I’m usually down in the 14-17mm but I also love that 50mm feel since it’s the closest to what our eyes and brain actually perceive so this would be a great addition to my gear.

1.) This lens would replace a cheaper lens that I have and add to my photography. I love Tamron Lens!!! I have two and would love to have this one!
    2.) I usually like shooting at 35mm to 50mm.
3.) I “LIKED MCP Actions on Facebook and added it to my page.
You cannot beat a Tamron len for the value and performance you get from all the Tamron line. I love Tamron Lenses and have two already. This would be an awesome lens to add to my photography equipment for better photography!!

    1) Im just getting starting and funds are very very very limited for me right now but i had planned on getting this lens any ways, just probably not for another year or so. It would benifit me because aside from the beautiful characteristics of wide angle lenses, i like night landscapes/citiscapes. This lens is perfect for that, and my 28mm just isnt cutting it. Also i really like the perspective distortion on this lens, its great for some very dynamic portraits. The glass on this camera is verry nice as well.

    2) I usually shoot either 28 or 50mm but as of now 50 is my favorite for general shooting.

    3) already like MCP a long time ago

    1. I am a videographer who is starting out without much money, I’d love this lens for it’s VC capabilities for video, unfortunately I cannot afford this option.
    2. I love wide angle shots, anywhere from 8-28 :) But this is obviously not ideal in every case. That is why this lens is so great! I also love photography and this helps with getting that perfect shot!
3.Of course I’ve liked it! Your page keeps every post interesting and I always look forward to new ones

    1. I am a beginner, I just got my first Nikon DSLR in December of last year so really all I have is the standard lens that the camera came with. This lens will help me take better portraits because that’s what I do. Since it has a really nice f-stop, it’d help me get really nice, creamy background blur which I’ve been really trying to acheive.
    2. My favorite focal legnth to shoot would have to be at 50mm
    3. I have liked your fan page on fb (:

I would love a lense and a camera that could take photos like this. I’m hoping to upgrade to a professional camera and will keep this lense in mind. Hopefully it fits several models so I can still have a variety of cameras to consider.

    Elizabeth Krill says:

How would this lens benefit your photography?

It would allow me to take clearer photos with less blur. The zoom would give me access to images and enlarge them. No longer would they be tiny dots on a huge foreground.

What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
I haven’t been measuring, but when vacationing, I try to capture the tops of towers, the clock and figures in Munich, and the beautiful mountains and scenery of Switzerland. When vacationing out west, I like to photograph the moon over Crater Lake and the lighthouse near Florence, Oregon.

This lense would help make all this possible. It may inspire me to hurry out and purchase a Nikon or Cannon sooner than later. I’m a student and waiting for a sale and a good reason to make a purchase count.

I am film and photography major with a Canon T2i with a half crop sensor and have looked into purchasing a fast wide angle lens such as this but Im on a tight budget! For my purposes this lens would be more like a 35-85mm lens given the 1.6X crop factor on my camera. Essentially, this camera would give me the focal length flexibility I would need for wide angle, medium, and telephoto shots with sufficient speed. 35mm is favorite focal length because it is the most versatile in my uses because I am able to wide, medium, and closeup shots simply by varying the camera position closer or farther from the subject. Thanks for the opportunity fellas!

I realllllllly want this lens, because I just went through (3) surgeries in a row (to remove cancer)and want to get my business going again. This is a beautiful lens and I have been looking for a new lens, but the expense has held me back, since I had to turn down several jobs during my recoveries. I trust Tamaron and know this is an excellent lens to have in my bag, and am looking forward to using it for the first time. THANK YOU FOR THIS FANTASTIC OFFER!!!

I would love to win this lense beause mine has gotten tweaked and I want to help out some local kids and take their senior pictures at a much more discounted price then the more established photographers in the area. I cannot afford to replace my lense at the moment but need the new one. I would be psyched to receive this one.
