Details from Tamron USA about this lens:
Setting high-performance DSLRs free with SP engineering, strengthened by F/2.8 maximum aperture advantages and Tamron VC.
The compositional options afforded by the SP 17-50mm F/2.8 Di-II VC’s wide-to-moderate-telephoto zoom characteristics are prized by experienced photographers, rendering a picture angle range approximating a 26-78mm lens on a full frame DSLR or a 35mm SLR. A fast and constant F/2.8 maximum aperture allows cluttered backgrounds to be softly obscured, additional freedom in low-light conditions and added viewfinder brightness. State-of-the art properties, including XR (Extra Refractive Index) and LD (Low Dispersion) glass in an optical formula employing 19 elements and 14 groups—assures sharpness, optimal contrast and breathtaking image fidelity. Its form factor and handling characteristics can be traced to the use of aspherical element design and internal focus. Tamron’s proprietary tri-axial VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization adds to image sharpness and further expands low-light shooting freedom by combating image blur resulting from camera shake. Tri-axial VC addresses the adverse effects of camera shake in three planes making it possible to shoot handheld at as many as four shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible.
The Tamron SP designation is reserved for lenses developed with special emphasis on extraordinary photographic performance. Engineers are free to innovate in an uncommon atmosphere where optical performance comes before price, resulting in lenses that satisfy the demands of discerning photographers.
Here are a few images taken with this lens:
The results of the Vibration Compensation (Image Stabilization) are amazing in these Tamron lenses. Check this example out!

I would LOVE love this lens as I’m new into the photography business side of things. Looking for lots of fun new items to try out.
How would this lens benefit your photography?
I will manage to do better indoor shots!
What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
I love my 85mm 1.2, but still think that 50 mm is the best focal lenght.
…and I have of course liked MCP actions for a while already
I have been following MCP for sometime and have learned SO much! I am not new to photography however I only do this as a hobby so far. I am a nurse by trade. I have 2 girls one in college and one on the way to college so I would LOVE to win this lens! I have never had a lens that fast just due to the cost!!!!! I am getting ready to do the photos on Sept. 22, 2012 for my dear friend, she is 63 and getting married for the second time after being married the first time for over 30 years. I am so nervous! THis would be wonderful to have! My husband just got me a new camera an Nikon SLR however hard for most to understand the cost of photography! I enjoy photography and especially taking journalistic photos. My youngest dtr. plays softball so I take LOTS of sports shots. I generally shoot an 18-200 that is my go to lens however it is 3.5 of course however when I shoot softball I use a 70-300 3.5. I also have a 50 fixed. I would love a faster lens and would surely use it for wedding photography!!!! I have defiantly liked MCP on Facebook and read the articles and have surely learned so much! I hope I win… have never won a thing…. at 43 years old……

How would this lens benefit your photography?
-I consider it to be one of the most versatile lens to work with given that it is wide enough to shoot a crowded space or a group of people and it’s also a great lens to do portraits. It will give me what I need to get ‘in there’ and also to shoot stunning images in low light situations.
What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
-By far, I love the 50mm because It goes so much with my style of shooting and gives my images the natural feel I always look for.
This lens would benefit me and my photography SO much! My husband has been laid off for 6 months, so buying goodies for me and my business has been at a dead halt since I bought my Canon 60d. I only shoot with a kit lens and feel my potential is being held back by the lack of professional equipment. I NEED this lens. I’ve been eyeballing it for a long time and begging family members for it as a birthday gift.
My favorite focal length is 50 mm, but I haven’t really been able to experiment much because of lack of funds to buy quality equipment!
I’ve like MCP on facebook for a LONG time!
This lens would benefit me so much because right now I would love to have it but money is tight!
I lov to shoot 85 mm
1) I am going back to school for Photography at age 46,and would love to have a lens like this to start me out on the right path.
2)I don’t know much about focal lenghts YET(ready to learn) but I love being able to catch every detail about my subject.
1.This lens would help me be more creative with close up portraiture, a definite must for landscape, and large groups
2.my favorite focal length really depends on the task at hand, I really like fast glass and shoot sideline football with a 70-200mm f2.8 IR l Cannon. 80 mm 2.8 portraits 28mm wide angle. thi lens would truly give me a wide angle lens!
3.I do LIKE and follow MCP on facebook
