40 Years Ago Today

4o years ago today, I was born at 5:11 AM in a New York City hospital. I probably was thinking “why am in this bizarre metal thing? Is someone about to eat me?”  This photo from my first hours of life shows my personality perfectly –  I look so curious. From the day I was born, I have always had a lot of questions.

It seems like yesterday when I was 16 and my mom and dad turned 40.  I wondered “what would life be like when I reached that age?” I couldn’t have predicted all the blessings and experiences I would have in my life, especially my twins (Ellie and Jenna), my husband (Matt) and my business (MCP Actions).

Today is the day – I’m 40.

While Ellie referred to it as “middle age” and popular culture refers to it as “over the hill,” I prefer to think of my birthday as “being alive.”  Technology and science are advancing but there is still no way to stop aging.  And truly, I wouldn’t want to.  I imagine if we could stop the process, our lives might be a lot like the movie Groundhog Day. Life would be boring in one particular stage forever

Progression, achieving goals, moving from one thing to the next, growing, expanding our networks, friends and families…. that is why we live.  So I embrace aging, wrinkles, wisdom, and all.

My last thought, since this is a photography blog after all: “Take lots of pictures. Capture more than just portraits. Take snapshots and document moments as life happens!”

I thank all of you for being a part of my celebration and life!

Life begins at 40. Have a Happy Birth Day and a great new beginning. I felt more fresh and alive at 40 than ever before. There is a new feeling of freedom attached to turning 40 and it just gets better every year after that. I’ve been 40 for 21 years now and lovin’ every moment of it.

Happy belated Birthday! I found my 40’s to be very liberating. I became more comfortable in my skin and adopted a healthier happier lifestyle. I think the 40’s are are wonderful time…almost as good as the 50’s 🙂
