Sometimes as a business you design something with the best of intentions and it flops. Our MCP Project 52 from 2011 was a huge success, but it was extremely time consuming for all the team leaders. As such, we redesigned it for 2012, into something more manageable: MCP Project 12. Unfortunately after two months, I realize this was a mistake.
After a Facebook survey, we learned why participation decreased.
- The Linky Tools upload system was confusing, and many did not have a blog to host their images. It also did not allow for much interaction, and people said it was confusing, time-consuming and hard to use.
- Monthly themes were not enough to keep people motivated and excited.
Rather than let it ride out for 10 more months, here’s what we are doing about it.”
Project 12 will turn into “Project MCP” starting March 1st, 2012.
In the next week, we will redesign how people participate and share photos and how it works. Check back March 1st for all the details and to participate. If you have ideas and want to volunteer, we will be looking for professional photographers to help run this. If you have an extra hour or two a week to help, please contact us at: [email protected] and let us know more about your background and skills. Our Project MCP Team Leader, Trish, will be in touch.
We are excited for this new twist. We hope you are too.
Jodi

I agree – the link system is not user friendly. Two other photog sites I follow use it, too. One even posts – don’t ask us – ask the tool maker about problems. Not inviting or helpful and an indication that many folks have problems using it. While I have a Master’s degree – I could not get this tool to work, so I do not participate in their site contests, either.
Well, I am new to everything so I just thought it was because I was having to learn as I go. But I did have trouble submitting photo. I really don’t blog so I used an account that I haven’t used in a year. Also, I worried about the people following the blog — am I kidding myself, really? I haven’t posted in a year — not caring about the photos since I am such a newbie. My photos are lacking in quality. Basically, I was a little embarrassed that friends would see what i was submitting since it would be a little out of context for them. I am not a photographer — I am a mom who wants to get better at taking photos. This is long winded— I am excited to see the changes and if they work out better for me.
Im so excited. Thanks for being so open and willing Jodi.
Jodi,I cannot imagine what kind of stress this has brought you. This is why I follow you, your honesty. You saw or probably felt, that something was off. You did your research, got feedback, fixed it and started again. You stuck it out and that, to me, is the key ingredient to any success you may wish to have. You are over the hump, congrats!!!!
=D I can’t wait to see!! Your so awesome!! <3
I’m so excited about the change!! Thank you Jodi, for your willingness to evolve with the process. We are always learning!
good call!
Thats very good news 🙂 thanks for listening…hope you can make this work for you too!
And I was just going out to shoot my “leap” photo! I had to wait until the end of the month…my daughter is a hurdler and her first meet is today. =) I will still shoot it…but will wait to see how the new twist works.
We are still taking submissions for February – so make sure to add your Leap.
Thank you for that, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.P52 2011 really pushed me creatively, I think I was burned out when it was over, and it was too challenging to jump right into a new year.
I love that you guys are so willing to take feedback and make changes!
Great job recognizing that something wasn’t working and changing course as needed. So few times you see public acknowledgement of something not quite working so I really appreciate your efforts you took to make the necessary course corrections. Looking forward to seeing what comes next 🙂
great news and i fully agree – it is really hard to keep the motivation going over a month and although you can enter a photo every week most of us need more encouragement to do this so many thanks for changing the set-up and i hope you can find a solution to enable us to keep going with this great project without an enormous work load for you guys. looking forward to the change of direction.
