If you want better newborn images, take our Online Newborn Photography Workshop.

Editing newborn images can be very time consuming. But it does not have to be.

Getting skin tones just right and making your images have that dreamy look about them can be challenging. When editing images of ethnic babies it is important to maintain their correct skin tones. If they are slightly red or jaundiced this can be a challenge.  I will show you how this is no longer hard for me because I use MCP’s Newborn Necessities Actions It has decreased my editing time in half and gives my images that beautiful glow that they deserve.

Here are a few before and after images. These images were all taken in studio with a one light and reflector set up. They were shot in JPEG with a Canon 5d MII.

Correcting the skin tone is different than changing the color of the baby’s skin. This post (and the photos) clearly depicted making an ‘ethnic’ baby to a caucasian looking one. Tsk tsk.

    • Joyce, this baby is my very close friends daughter and I assure you that the edited skin tone is true to her actual skin tone. The intent was to take the red out of these images and to actually make her skin coloring reflect its true color. She is a very light skinned Indian baby.

I am a photographer and i think your editing is wonderful, very nice job. I have to disagree with you joyce, it is obvious that her intent was not to change the babys ethnicity but to give the photos a nice soft look like they should be edited for a newborn, you can still tell that the baby is of an indian decent in her editing. Love the photos.
