Photographers, as you head to the beach, mix up the usual photos with some fun, creative ones.
One great way to engage your subject is to have them help you create the backdrop they’ll be photographed on. On a beach you can have you or your subjects write in the sand. Words wash away when the tide comes in. But as a photographer you can capture the text or images before that happens.
1. Use a stick, a shovel, or even your foot to dig the sand and create your drawing or words.
2. Spell the name of your company, where you are, names of those you care about, or just draw designs. Next, photograph the words or images and include your subjects if you want.
You can get amazing texture in full sun and also wonderful colors at sunset. I took the image below on a sandy cay we landed on from a helicopter ride on the Great Barrier Reef.
Below, I got in an image with the “hi” by handing my camera to another blogger on the trip, Katja from Travelettes.
And here is another I took at the Thala Beach Lodge where we stayed. This beach had the most amazing colors from the sunset.
And though this post was about writing in the sand, another “X Marks the Spot” idea is to position seashells or even objects like a coconut. They make for great photos and memories.
Enjoy the beach!!!

I love when the letters start to fill in–like with your “Love” photo!
I love the coconut pic, you’re fantastic with the “hi” 🙂
