Do you like to swim in the shallow end of the photography focal length pool? Do you wish for creamy, blurry backgrounds that seem to make your subject pop? Do you dial down to f1.4 or f2 to achieve it? Is it a detriment to the quality of your photos?

This week we introduced a new photo challenge based on a recent blog post regarding shallow depth of field. You can read the blog post HERE. The challenge is to take a portrait at f4 to f11 and achieve shallow depth of field through distance and positioning; hopefully increasing the quality of the details in your photo, without sacrificing the look.

We loved seeing your take on this theme. Here are a few we wanted to feature, but make sure to check the album on the group page for more.

Our photo challenges give you a chance to edit other photographer’s images, share them for critique, and see how others edit the same photographs.  Participating allows you to practice editing, learn how to give constructive criticism, and watch what steps or Photoshop actions and Lightroom presets are used in various edits.  Join us to edit the bi-weekly photos.

If you have an idea on how you’d edit this week’s image, or want to see and learn what others did, JOIN US HERE.

Thank you again to Christine Sines for allowing us to use this photo.  The current challenges are linked at the top of the group. Remember, you can also ask for critique on your edit.

Several of members of the group have shared great edits. Here is another MCP edit we would like to share:

 Edited by Christina Theodoroff

I did some hand editing in camera raw first, changing the exposure a bit, adding a vignette, and decreasing shadows. Then I used the MCP color fusion mix and match. I mixed Peachy and heartfelt together. Then add the frosting action and finished with a lens flare.

We will have a new edit challenge starting Monday, so come back to see what image you can edit then.

The difference between using ISO 100 and 400 is really interesting. I shall certainly be trying a couple of those examples out!

In the last picture of the couple kissing why not crop the right side of the picture out???? So many photographers think they have to use the whole format of the image when cropping would be a lot better for quite a lot of their images.
